I put some $ into a coin a couple of months ago. And since then it's gone down a lot and stayed down. A deadline for a project update was recently met and advertised but the coin didn't even bump up. If I got out now I would lose about 20% of my initial investment.

How do you decide when it's time to dump a coin for a loss? I don't need the money but i see these other coins going up and i keep thinking about the opportunity cost of having my $ sitting in the shitcoin.
I will dump my coin if i just get a little loss in value for my investment, But never try to dump it in the large scale to get a big loss for my value, You know that what i mean. It makes you confusing to choose which is better just try to dump in loss or try to keep them, but if there will be the next pump in the future and you will regret it.

20% for crypto is not huge drawdown in my opinion. If coin/project is not scammy I wll hold until profit/base price

If you don't see any changes or improvement soon about it then I suggest you let go of it and look for another profitable coin in the market now. You can still recoup the 20% loss from another coin that has a bright future in the next coming months.

at this point you are not just at a loss on the coin but losing any potential profits another coin could net you. If it doesn't appear there is any reason for another pump I would ditch it immediately and find a new project. If you believe in the coin just hold and hope for the best.

Well for HitBTC you better sell before the pre-ico is done.. Once everybody puts the coin in you're done.

If it is actually a shitcoin then dump it as soon as possible. Try to avoid investing on those shitcoins as most of them tends to be just   pump/dump scam coins without any potential, which usually ends up dying. There are even pump/dump groups where they encourage people to buy those coins. You will find them on trollbox, this forum and everywhere.

This is a difficult question if you do not see an opportunity to recover your investment any time soon then I think it is better to accept your losses especially if as you said some other coins that you have analyzed seems like better choices at the moment.

I'd say if you see something going up and you're confident you can recoup the loss from the shitcoin then go for it. Had to dump MCO after if shit the bed. Got burned bad. But I'm pretty sure it's not going to recover. Might look at something that isn't going to get dumped straight into oblivion.... like a top 20 coin or something with a possible use-case. Up to you though. Who knows.... whatever the coin is, it could end up getting pumped again down the line. If you're not too deep into the coin and you aren't holding a huge heavy bag of shit, then maybe wait it out.
