I continue to believe that Bitcoin will only succeed when both of the below show more success:

1) More merchants of all kinds accept Bitcoin.  Ask those with whom you do business if they would accept BTC!

2) More people start buying and using it.  Tell your friends and family.

Large upward price movements certainly would increase visibility of BTC, which would be somewhat positive.

I agree with the above who write that BTC promotion is of little use.

Achieving big price levels would be most effective self explanatory way of promoting bitcoins. Higher prices of bitcoin will turn each and every one's head toward bitcoin. Price appreciation is possible when we have mass adoption from new people or continuous saving from existing adopters.

Promoting bitcoin is more important, but spreading awareness on saving bitcoin is most important and comparatively easy task in my view.

Tips seem to be mostly dried up due to a lot of members not realizing they can do this, might be a nice feature to add like a button as people seem to be unable to figure out they can tip by sending to the address in a lot of members profiles.

As for community I suspect a lot of people got sick of the bickering that went on with personal agendas usually surrounding financial gain by slandering another member to drive off competition.
The scamming has increased due more third world Countries joining into the scene and not having many options to get themselves established or unwilling to put in the work. It evident in the poker scene with the cheating and seems to be the same here with lending and other business where there is a exchange.

The people that drive bitcoin in a political way got tired of hitting their head against a wall with signature spam or people looking to make a fast buck. These are the people we need to drive back into the community.

promoting bitcoin within a bitcoin forum is silly. and it should be obvious why.

its like promoting a music band, by telling people the band is playing on day X. seems a good idea... buy
by handing out leaflet only inside the event on day X to only the people already at the venue after they bought their ticket. not a good idea

to even sign up to this forum you need to have already heard of bitcoin and had more then a fleeting thought about it to want to search about it to come across this forum.

so doing bitcoin giveaways on this site is not converting anyone or introducing anyone
due to the logical fact everyone on this site already having some grasp or heard or knows of bitcoin.

Mainstream adoption & media interest in bitcoin seems to have died down recently. It's all a bit disappointing at the moment. We HODL on though.

Edit - Just to add that yeah I agree with the OP, the forum is so quiet now compared to how it used to be.

Ponzi schemes and (cloudmining) scams are not a new phenomenon. They have been around since the early days. Making money was always a motivation in the Bitcoin ecosystem. So I don't think that there have been fundamental changes, though I agree that giveaways have become more rare these days.

On the other hand I don't think that giveaways are a very good way to promote Bitcoin use. If you receive something for free you are less likely to perceive it as valuable compared to having done some work for it. The best way to promote Bitcoin is to show its usefulness as a form of payment. So accepting and using Bitcoin are the best way of promoting Bitcoin - especially if done cross-border. If you run a business, you might also offer some discount for using Bitcoin to make surpassing the entry barrier more attractive.

I've never been a fan of aggressive Bitcoin marketing. People will come to Bitcoin if it has advantages for them. Aggressively promoting Bitcoin might quickly lead to disappointments if people are not prepared for it.

A few years ago, this forum was as busy as a Bee, with people trying to promote Bitcoin. The price was close to $1000 and people were

dishing out give-aways and doing treasure hunts and Puzzles.. and everyone had loads of fun. Lately, we only see Ponzi schemes and

cloud mining and people trying to take money from other people. Let's see some tipping on forums and Bitcoin Air drops and some active

Bitcoin promotion again, to increase adoption. Let's bring back the good ole days!  Roll Eyes
