What is an OG collector, anyway? I bought a couple dozens of Casascius from Mr. Mike Caldwell himself at end of 2012. Am I an OG?  Cool

Yes :-)

-Dave

Hmmmmm...I didn't buy a couple dozen but did buy one silver/gilt from Mike himself in 2013...what does that make me? LOL

Is there a time frame and quantity a person must have bought to be labeled an OG?  Huh Wink

P.S.  and I am not a whale either

I consider things pre-2014 to be pretty OG. By 2016 every scammer on the internet was descending upon Bitcoin and these forums and the attitude changed from one of Libertarians trying to change the world, to scammers trying to get rich quick and attacking anything they saw as competition to their offerings. If I were to pick an OG collectibles peak though, it would definitely be 2011-2012 as that is where 99% of the innovation occurred in the space.

Good to know and you are probably right...so I am an OG! Pre 2014!  Cheesy

I know of a few. Mostly they have all the coins they want, they will NEVER sell them, and they have enough money now to do whatever the fuck they like. Blazed had what, like 40k coins at one point? He's a billionaire, doing billionaire things I imagine.

Don't know if he is that rich, but I know a lot of collectors that picked up a lot of loaded items early 2020 when BTC was low and are now waiting for the next price drop.
With the next drop being an individual amount for each person.

I actually have just not been 'moved' by any new collectable lately. No idea why, there have been a bunch of "that's cool" but not a lot of "I MUST HAVE THAT"

This is a rather easy question to answer. This forum is full of trolls and there is no moderation of any kind stopping them from attacking OGs with lies and teaming up to chase them from these forums. It happens time and again, yet people still say nothing when this behavior is occurring and don’t even take issue with other members including trolls in their trust network. Ask yourself if you have excluded Vod from your trust network yet? Why not? What about the people that include him in their trust network? This obvious lack of judgement is fine for them to be in DT right? Look at my trust ratings if you don’t understand why OGs flee this place as soon as they reach a place of financial freedom. I just wonder why people keep asking this question and then do nothing to try and correct the problem when you have an OG telling you exactly what the problem is and it’s blatantly obvious…  My question to the community is, do we want OGs to stick around here? If so, do we want to start showing them the respect they deserve and defending them from lying trolls or do you expect people like myself to continue spending years of their time coming here to refute one lie after another in an endless string of misinformation attacks that sabotage projects regardless of how much evidence and publicly documented facts are presented proving otherwise. That’s where the road to being an OG ends for most… I’ve certainly seen first hand why most choose to leave instead. Stick around long enough and see some personal success, you will to.

TL;DR

Trolls are more highly regarded here then OGs.

Are you trolling with this? Surely OGs dont leave because they are simply being trolled upon.

Ive popping into the collectibles board since I joined the forum in 2017 and I
wouldnt be familiar with those early collectors. They have moved on to other things,
probably still collecting I suspect. If they have the wealth which is suggested they
have probably turned their interests to rare gems or art or something.

so i can't answer the question, where the collectors of the first hour stayed also.
but i can tell you, that my collection (started in the beginning of 2020) i want to add more and more and so far i didn't waste any thought to dissolve it or to sell/auction anything of it. Wink

I thought the same thing once I started collecting. I've been able to search and find some gems here and there from some OGs but most likely they took a page from Satoshi and simply moved onto other things. Not everyone is doing billionaire things like Blazed. Would be nice if he stopped by and said hello once in a while tho Cheesy

With time, we will all be OG’s
I’ve reached out to some Of them and managed to shake some coins out of their strong hands.  Smiley

I resonate with this sentiment, just take a look around you at how little the average person knows about bitcoin let alone crypto all together. Give the world another ten years and those of us in this community today will be OGs.

Maybe we weren't the first, but we surely are second or third generation OGs.

I had thought about this as well, and it's going to be an excellent opportunity to hang out and learn some of their insights into how they got in at that early stage in crypto. No need to interact here in any way, but pretty sure they are living the life.

Anyway, there could be a lot of reasons for this like life happening with them. Maybe they are just too busy with other things in their life. That's the most logical explanation for being inactive most of the time. I don't want to think about something bad that has happened, but it could too. I hope they are happy and safe, especially these times that we are in now. In which everyone is affected.

One thing I've always kind of wondered is where did all the OG collectors go?  We have very few members whom are still active here that were around during the early days of collectibles.  Those who bought Casascius coins and BitBills when they were first released are the type of collectors I'm referring to.  I don't see myself ever losing interest in collectibles completely and just riding off in to the sunset.  I may not be as active as I now am at some point, but I just don't see myself completely being done w/this board and collectibles in general.  Members like Blazed for example.  I dunno, it just seems kind of odd to me that there are probably less than a handful of collectors who were around during the Casascius days who are still active.
