I just stumbled upon the ressurection of the royalfork blog and checked github and it looks like royalfork (the guy) is alive:

Not sure if the activity is a good sign, cause it's about eth and solidity.

I think you just need to remove the CNAME file.

Edit: I looked into it a little more. The way that the repository is set up, you need to rename it to simonbelmond.github.io and change the url in the _config.yml file to be simonbelmond.github.io
Then you can just visit the site at simonbelmond.github.io and it will show up normally.

Whois also states that the domain has expired but it seems strange to me that someone would let the domain expire after having invested so much time into the blog.

Archive.is has some of the pages saved, but not that many. And they are very old.

My guess for why it went offline is that the domain expired and the previous owner did not renew it.

Still no news about the original author or his whereabouts....

Does anyone know where theroyalforkblog.com went? Some of the articles are still accessible through the way back machine but not all dynamic elements work and especially not the elliptic curves graphs. Seriously this was the best tech blog about Bitcoin I knew and I pointed so many people to it. Does anyone know the owner? Why is it down? Is there a way I can get a recent backup of the site?
