I don't think it is.My understanding is that if you lose your password then you lose your investment.Also if it is hacked and stolen it is lost as there is no recourse to Government compensation. Not to mention the price risk in what appears to be a vastly over valued asset.
It is so low, while the crypto currency has an uncertain price (fluctuate). if I have bitcoin 0.1 then I will keep it, now a lot of good news about bitcoin may soon be bitcoin price to $ 20,000.
You can invest your bitcoins in good potential altcoins or in ICO but before investing you should do a good research as many altcoins will disappear with an blink of an eye which will result in loosing money and same goes with ICO too as many ICOs have scammed people and have disappeared in the past.

The best place to use bitcoin at is on the exchanges and buying altcoins. If your goal is to accumulate more Bitcoin, trade them in and out of alts until you x10 your stash. 
Always keep BTC in portfolio.
Trading is a zero sum game. You take the satoshis of someone else.
Even if there are tons of fools lured by quick money, don't expect people to trade shit coins for ever.
Investing in Altcoin can give more space to make more Bitcoin but you have to face the Huge risk because every altcoin price completely depends on the price of Bitcoin. So it is better to invest only half amount into the altcoin and rest Bitcoin keep them in cold storage.
I think you forgot to mention whether you want to invest it in Altcoin market or in other government regulated markets like mutual funds and stock markets.

I count Bitcoin as perfect investment itself. Why do you need to risk with your money and to invest in into some doubtful project? I have around 0,2 BTC today and I do not even plan to touch this coins, but only increase the amount of it. I would be very glad to have passive income in bitcoins, but for me it sounds fantastic. I prefer just to hold my BTC (so called HODL strategy), because I do not believe anyone on crypto market.
