Not your keys, not your coins!
As far as I understand the rule, users are only allowed to add links to advertise something in topics they self-created. In the topics, which created by the others, adding links to advertise is disobey the rule and will be punished depends on level of violations.

As the others advised above, if the OP want to make a topic to advertise and sell his Arts, the Marketplace is the appropriate board to do this. But OP has to create his own topic, and remember don't advertise his art in the topics of the others.

Rule 24
Quote
24. Advertisements (including signatures within the post area) in posts aren't allowed unless the post is in a thread you started and is really substantial and useful.

I just came back to this thread, and saw the unread answers, where it is debated about the scope of the "cartoon".

Is this used as a proxy for promoting a service or for the sake of the art itself (and to promote such art)?...

What about the author clarifying the question?  Wink

Well my intention would be to kill two birds with one stone, ideally getting a bootstrap effect, where the art promotes the service and vice-versa.

Both things are offered for free, with the hope to amuse and inform, hopefully not in an annoying way.

Thanks to mk4 for the suggestion of posting on Reddit. Any further suggestion is welcomed. I'm just a the beginning of these avenues, and don't have particular ambitions, but I shall start somewhere.

Checked OP's other posts with one of his "arts", well you're right. The "art" is mostly for the promotion of the YouTube channel/Twitter account. I guess if the art was made mostly for the sake of actual art itself(like in Pascal Boyart's case) rather than a sort of quick meme comic that's promoting a service, I'd say the Bitcoin Discussion would be fine. But this one? I'm 50-50 on it.

I find them of different nature though. While Pascal’s threads display art to promote the art of Pascal, the OP’s AdArt is more of a means to publicize a YouTube live chart channel. I consider there is a subtle difference there, both in the means and aim.

More than the discussion being on determining the appropriate section (which should be content driven to the appropriate one), it should likely shift focus to whether or not the OP cartoons fall onto the safe side of:

It occurred to me that I should write a little about this in case anyone's wondering about what dogie's doing, or why other people are getting banned for somewhat similar activity:

Ads are typically not allowed in posts (outside of the signature area) because they are annoying and off-topic. It is especially disallowed to put ads or signatures at the bottom of all of your posts. Except for traditional valedictions, which are tolerated but discouraged, signatures are for the signature area only.

However, if you are using the forum as a publishing platform to host something really substantial and useful, selling ads in that substantial work is allowed. To be eligible for this, your post must be in a topic that you started, and your post must be substantial and long enough to make the ad seem entirely insignificant. If in doubt, ask me.

Anyone want to chip in?
I felt the same when I viewed the "cartoon"; it's definitely an advertisement.  We were misled by ChartInsights line of questioning.

I mean, if Pascal Boyart is allowed to post his art on the Bitcoin Discussion forum, as his threads weren't moved/deleted, then I assume it would be ok for OP to post his art on the same section too. Not sure why cartoons and graffiti should be in separate sections. But again, it completely depends if OP is planning on selling something.

I’ve seen the post published in Bitcoin Discussion, and I think that the question is not so much which is the appropriate board, but rather more if the art/chart is being used as a proxy to advertise.

As per the rules:
<…> 24. Advertisements (including signatures within the post area) in posts aren't allowed unless the post is in a thread you started and is really substantial and useful.[9][e] <…>
Thar rule is derived from a post from @theymos on the matter: Ads in posts.

As per subject. I found another thread with the same subject, but I could not find a suggestion there related to Bitcointalk.

Can one post it, for example, on the "Bitcoin Discussion" board? Or would it be deleted because off-topic?

It would be nice if there was a special section for this...

Thanks,
Ben

It depends on what will you do since if you want a discussion about bitcoin arts then it's good to post it on bitcoin discussion since it's the proper board where to talk about bitcoins and related on it but if you want to sell your art then the best section for that is goods section under the child board of market place and there you can post your art works and sell it on your desired price.

And also your Local section is best for that since maybe your countrymen will appreciate your work and talk about it aswell you can market it to them.

Why not post it here? A lot of people pass by here and you can let us review or rate your art for free and you can improve on it that way. Here or BTC discussion would do fine. Just don't post it in boards that have technical discussions like Development & Technical discussion or Mining. Most of the people there have topics and discussions and arguments and your art would most likely just get buried there without any prior discussion. If you plan to sell such stuff, go to services board instead.

I think the art of bitcoin, especially cartoons if any topic is open about it then you can post there. Also if you post a cartoon in a serial topic that does not match the topic then the moderator can delete it or send it to off-topic. I think the off-topic is appropriate for this cartoon related post.

If the art is Bitcoin-related, I don't think there's anything wrong with posting it on the Bitcoin Discussion forum, well, if you only want people to see and discuss your art(and NOT sell the art). There's always something to talk about even with art, unless your art is just a huge "BTC" on canvas or something. If you're selling the art, definitely in the Marketplace section.

Just a tip though, if you want maximum publicity with your art, with you getting your name out there and such(social media links, website, etc), I suggest also posting on Reddit r/bitcoin. Best of luck!

It would be nice if there was an art and meme board. Right now there is no place on bitcointalk that is dedicated for image posts.

Thanks all for the prompt replies and opinions! Much appreciated. For now I only have one cartoon, and quite simple: I will try to post it on "Bitcoin Discussion", and see how it goes.

Thanks again,
Ben

If it is related to the bitcoinforum you can post in meta board.
There is too much spam in Bitcoin discussion board. I would try some other board, according to the art.

(i will prefer politics & Society board.).
I think the cartoon or art should be posted in the section that the meaning is related to, just like @xhomerx10 suggested, if the cartoon/art is about bitcoin, it should be posted in Bitcoin discussion, if it's about altcoins, then altcoin discussion should be fine. Just post it in the section it'll make the most sense, but i am sure it'll be moved to off-topic if it's just about entertainment that doesn't relate to any board.

Politics and society section would only be preferable imho if the art is related to politics or societal issues.

Definitely not Politics and Society since it has nothing to do with either of those.

Art has previously been posted in Bitcoin Discussion, as have cartoons, songs, YouTube videos, puzzles, games, and so forth. I think this would be the most appropriate board for it. If a moderator disagrees, then it will likely be moved to Off Topic rather than deleted.

Welcome to bitcointalk forum. Always nice to see nice member like you. Asking first before posting thread or when got confused about something. About your question. i would suggest Politics & Society board or Off-topic board. (i will prefer politics & Society board.).

Once again, welcome to this forum. Can't wait to see your first cartoon threads.

It's nice of you to ask first but why assume your post will be deleted?  Many posts are simply moved to the appropriate sections by moderators.  If you post an off-topic response in someone else's thread, that's a problem and it likely would be deleted because there is no proper section.

If the cartoon is about Bitcoin and strictly for entertainment, put it in Bitcoin Discussion.  It should be fine there.
