I bet you're paying more like $0.12/KWh in Florida, huh?

If you're serious, I just might consider it  Wink

Ship them to Tallahassee. I'll put them to work with space to spare. 8^)

So I started a discussion over on projects about possible solutions for this sort of problem...

@hmblm1245

If the place I find (if I find one) has Internet access of some kind, I'll just use that.  Worst case scenario is getting a 3G or 4G wifi modem.  They have them for about $50/month.

@alans

Interesting idea on renting a house and then subletting.  Could be more trouble than it's worth as you say.  Sorry to hear that you're getting out of the BTC racket.  I agree that it is a hassle to find a space and administer the systems.  I'm enjoying it though, and have enough free time to keep tinkering with it.

I'm kind of in the same boat and am not having much luck.  Co-locate or datacenter space costs way too much because they're usually all about bandwidth and backup.  I know there have been several pot growing busts around here lately for "grow houses" - someone finds and rents a cheap house and grows their pot in it but you'd really need to get up in the 20+ mining rig range to afford that.

I'm was thinking maybe I'd rent a house, use one room or the basement for mining and sublet the rest to college students or whatever.  Maybe a CS major to use as a 3-fingered admin.  Still, between work, running the rigs and being a parent I don't have the time to juggle it all.  So, I've decided to part out my rigs.

Good luck and I hope you find a solution.

I forgot to mention that internet connectivity might be an issue. Aircard? = $$$ maybe choose one near a Starbucks and hop on there WiFi Smiley

Thought about that.  I'll have to give one of the places a call.

Thanks!

What about something like http://www.ustoreit.com/storage/climate-controlled-storage/ temperature controlled storage. Just ask if there is power in the room and how much. Who knows they might even have another option being in the physical space biz.

Good ideas, thanks!

I have no problem paying for the electricity.  At 1kw per rig x 6 rigs, the monthly bill will probably be ~$600.  I don't want to make others pay for that much juice.

A commercial space would be better as it would save about 25%, or $150 a month.

Other ideas?

Friends/Neighbors with basements? tell them that you will pay whatever it costs in electricity plus a few bucks more. I have my power wrapped into my condo fees with 30+ units so no one knows that i'm running my friends miner. i get 50 bucks a month from him for "Rent" and "Power costs" (it would cost him 100 if he mined at home).

Put a ad on Craigslist LA looking for a college student who lives in a dorm with free electricity.  I am sure they would appreciate the extra beer money.  Wink

I've got three rigs right now and plan to have about six in the near future.  The wife hates the heat and noise, so I have to find another place for them.

I live in an apartment in Los Angeles, so can't exactly stick them in a shed out back.

I've looked at commercial spaces via craigslist:
* Office space is too expensive
* Warehouse space is too big (min of 600 sq ft +)
* Containers would be great, but they are like ovens in the summer
* Data centers are great (A/C, power, network), but very expensive

Any suggestions?  Huh
