I'm so pissed I didn't find it back in 2010...ahh well, it's never too late. But I did find it in 2011, if anyone cares, through Digg.
I read an article about making money on your pc. I ran the program for about 10 seconds then thought it was stupid so I turned it off. Now I realized that I'm stupid and I wish I could turn me off.

I stopped reading Slashdot about the time that I mined those two blocks of bitcoins back on July 12, 2010. The main problem with Slashdot was that its primary moderator biased the chosen articles to what in retrospect seems to be a fairly narrow scope, e.g. anti-Microsoft, pro-open source, scruffy and so forth.
Each day I now rapidly scan the 60 most popular headlines on Hacker News http://news.ycombinator.com/news, and then also rapidly scan the 500-600 headlines posted on the New section overnight. Hacker News is operated by the famous Y Combinator, i.e. Paul Graham, startup incubator, and anyone can post a headline there that roughly fits the interests of people who might form or otherwise participate in a startup company - namely the same sorts of people who love bitcoins.
Needless to say, there is some mention of bitcoins nearly every day, and my attention was drawn back to bitcoin mining after a 10 month hiatus by the continuing stream of Bitcoin articles on Hacker News.
Give it a try. Its a sort of firehose, and most articles will be in some narrow tech area not of interest - but you probably will not miss out on the next big thing. By the way that next big thing might very well be a new wave of startups involving the growing bitcoin economy.
I wish I could share my story. I will take it to grave. Sorry.

Around April of 2010. I was looking into anonymous banking on Wikipedia, and this was in the list.
I was going to put in $1000 just for lolz, but never got around to it. I had the money, and was thinking "This probably won't take off, but if it does, if you don't invest you will be kicking yourself in the arse". And just as predicted....

I love the fact slashdot hates bitcoin.
They are notoriously bad at making calls on technology trends. Most of their "will never make it" predictions end up being the most successful things of the year, if not decade. Hate on it all you want, slashdotters - just means something is going right.

I can't remember where I first saw it, but I sure wish I'd paid more attention. I was aware of BTC when they were only < 0.05 each, and did not act.

Apparently I'm very, very isolated. Apparently big things could be going on and I wouldn't have the first clue. What else am I missing and clueless about? Up till now, I only kept tabs on ONE message board, and that forum only covers religion/philosophy. So (surprise, surprise) I didn't hear about Bitcoin there.
I'm just worried that I'm out of touch to a large degree -- how could something as major as this be sitting out there, out of my sight for so long? I spend literally 10 hours on the 'Net each day; sometimes more.
I used to keep tabs on CNN.com, CNNmoney.com, I'm subscribed to TechRepublic (which has all sorts of articles about technology), and I visit a few other places.

Likewise, but for the most part I thought I came in off the 'USD parity' article this year... but recently something triggered in my memory and I *really* vaguely remember seeing the very first Slashdot article about it (when it would have been < $0.04) and didn't get into it.

I heard about Bitcoin in december 2010. I don't know why I didn't buy any mining rigs or BTC then
I completely forget where I heard about it, but I had heard about it, I think when it was around 2 bucks, and I thought it was a cool idea. Skip forward to June 2011, when I am finally actually getting involved. 
I also heard about Bitcoin from the July 2010 Slashdot article.
A series of problems meant that I couldn't start mining until the difficulty increases had almost made CPU mining impractical. Then I waited too many months before making the decision to get a 5870 GPU card.
