MCXnow could be compared, but really does anyone trade on there anymore? RealSolid is a crook. I was a newbie to the exchange right before he froze trade. I got coins out, but the deposit I had going in never got redeemed. I had several emails ignored, and IRC chat was useless. Try to call the guy out on his little trollbox and he will eat into you like an immature imp. Steer clear.

Cryptsy is probably an exchange that has similar trends of "mismanagement" as gox and I would not be shocked if they have problems in the future. I keep less than a BTC worth of coins on there.

I was thinking Cryptsy too.

I've seen numerous posts about Cryptsy withdrawals getting frozen and coin balances going into the negatives for no apparent reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have the coins to back everything if everyone withdraws at the same time.

Quite the ride. BTC back to where it started yesterday afternoon. And that's why you buy the panics.

If people trust ANY online exchange with any significant coin holding, then that is just silliness.

Cryptsy does have speed issues, but I wouldn't be worried about their safety aspect. It looks like a legit exchange with a proper support system run by real non-anonymous people.

Gox has had massive withdrawal issues for a long time, and yet some people kept on trusting that site until now. Now if you lost money to Gox, can you really blame Gox when it was you who was stupid?

I had no withdrawal issues, at least no more than I had with any other exchanges.  But perhaps it was stupid of me for thinking that they were honest about their cold storage.  However, any exchange may not have enough (or may simply decide not) to pay your balance.

mcxnow.com is the next gox.  check it out.....

1) run by an egotistical douchbag check
2) badly programmed website  check
3) stole clients coins  check
4) blames everyone except themselves  check
I don't care about the drama around the others, but could you explain 2) and 3) ?

Yes.
2. Realsolid stored all client passwords in a clear text file open to the internet.
3. Would ban and lock client accounts and then syphon coins from the client wallets and not acknowledge that they existed.  This happened too many time to be just an outlier.  Then when they shutdown they emptied all the client accounts and when they started the new site no carry over of existing accounts.  All the coins were gone.
This is serious ... Thanks for the heads up.

mcxnow.com has already done it once well before mtGox ran with the money.  Now mcxnow.com is trying do pull the scam again.

Oh, so true. That guy kicked me for literally nothing out of their channel. Then bragged about it like he accomplished the biggest goal of his life.

Which altcoin exchanges do you guys recommend steering clear of to avoid getting goxxed?
Now all crypto exchanges are still quite immature as far as they just starting their way to the future, all of them have high risk to go down, thus best solution is to try to keep as much assets in private wallets as possible. So keep at exchange only minimal needed amount of coins.

+1. Keep coins in wallet and if you expect an upwarding trend do a transfer in time when y know that particular exchange is laggy during popular demands.

Quoted for truth. First adapters are not always the best business men.

why not just set up gateways and use ripple?  you will have a decentralized exchange, empowering the traders themselves.
