Exactly.
The only ones getting rich off altcoins right now are devs and the people holding ICOs.
Create coin, take peoples money for startup, premine and dump on exchange. Rinse and repeat.

There might be one coin every two or three years where you can make big profits in the long-term,
but most you need to dump quickly because they won't last. Most alts offer no new technology, no real support, just a lot of marketing hype.

open coinmarketcap or an exchange and look at some charts of coins that have been around for a year or so, that can help you understand what is going on with altcoins. try looking at more than 10 different coins.

altcoins aren't known to go up in long term. they start of hot, go up fast and big in a very short time (usually 1 to 3 days) and then get dumped just as fast. and from that point onward it is all drop.
obviously there are exceptions to this rule but this description matches majority of altcoins out there.

if you want hold altcoin in long time until over one year
youre must hold is good altcoin, popular altcoin , and big community, if youre only use hold altcoin is not popular very low volume transaction, maybe one year a go youre altcoin is gone and nothing exchanger accepted trade youre altcoin
overall hold altcoin over one year is bad

The only way to do it is to already be one, and start investing, pumping and dumping thousands of dollars per day, like these Chinese guys at #1 on Okcoin
For all of us, the average Joes, the best case scenario is to invest $1k in an altcoin you follow by its' babysteps and get something like x100. But that doesn't happen everyday, so either keep looking or start searching for new technologies unknown to the masses like blockchain once was.

Although it is something that most of the time makes many people lose money, it seems that almost always works for developers. But it seems that people are avoiding more and more icos, it is rare to see icos collecting thousands of Bitcoin these days, as happened last year and in previous years.

There won't be altcoin which gives you big profit with just take a few months. If you want a high profit and doing your trade. Because to fall into the altcoin very risky although you will be patience for waiting the dump phase is over. Hold monero or ether it is fair. But try to buy shit coin if you want a big profit. If you can hold for a few months, Litecoin may be the option with the best risk-reward ratio. I think it will not be the currency able to make anyone to be a millionaire, but I think that if segwit is activated, there is the possibility of big profits. The problem is that there is no guarantee that this will be enabled. But if you are looking for something safer, in my opinion Bitcoin is the way.

People who want to get rich simply pick the altcoin they want and with basic math you could make hundreds of thousands of dollars if you really wanted to.
