ETH will continue to rise its value as difficulty bomb for miners is also increasing significantly now a days. no miner will sell their hard earned coins very cheaply, I would say, ETH is safe and long term inverstment.

Eth is the one of the Stable Alt coin. and pumping slowly.
and i think BCH is a stable alt too .

Why BCH? I feel like BCH is more like a tool to bring down BTC and it could crash at any moment if the people propping it up decide it's not useful anymore. I will say this though, there's probably a boatload of unclaimed BCH still out there.

Ok so I'm in a situation right now where I may need to sell some of my bitcoins at any time. But because of its volatility, I'd rather sell the bitcoins right now ahead of time for alts, then sell the alts when I need fiat. So my question is very simple. Which alts are most stable? I will be holding the alts for about a few weeks to a month and just basically need a safe non-volatile coin that I don't have to worry about tanking 10% in value overnight or something.

I think Dash has been very stable for awhile now and has started a new trend upwards (rising against Bitcoin) since 15th of august 2017 :

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/#charts

Somewhere next month, Dash will have a large software update (v12.2) and will also lead a Dash specific conference in London where further announcements will be made about Dash

https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/the-dash-conference-press-release-london-24th-sep.16246/#post-135902

I suspects this will also reflect positively on the price.

Then further down the road we have Dash Evolution (a major Dash update) coming up, which will be on Dash Testnet end of this year
and a few months later it will be released in phases on Mainnet, also something to think about while making your investment strategy.

I would say waves. But as everyone knows, all altcoins are famous for high volatility. Think about investing in more than one coin, then there`s a lower risk to loose all.

Why don't you convert it to USDT? which is pegged to $1 USD, so you don't have to worry about it. ETH, LTC, Neo. They look stable but who knows where they will be in few weeks.

Why? Because as soon as you convert to FIAT, you are subject to taxes.

Unless I am missing something, Tether is not FIAT. Why would anyone be subject to taxes if they convert one altcoin to another?

Steemdollars work in the exact same way. It's pegged to the dollar.

If you want a coin that keeps it's dollar value (though it fluctuates up and down against bitcoin as bitcoin moves up and down, consider Doge.

ETH looks like a good major altcoin with only up movement in the near future. DNR has been pretty stable at $0.58 with the only direction that will go is up eventually. I don't know about hodling tether for long periods of time.

I dont understand about altcoins can be stable for a while. However, there is decent choice to be held like Eth, Strat or Waves. As they seem to have a chance small rise in next few days. You can hold them all at once to add value.

Tether would actually be the exact thing I need. But little concerned with its ties to bitfinex. Is this something I should be worried about?

It's up to you. I just told you what I would do if I was in your position. It's probably the most stable altcoin you can put your money into compare to others. LTC is another good option but it relies on BTC price, so yeah. I would be wary of putting it anywhere other than Tether, it's still risky though.

I think ETH is. It has been hovering around 300 for a long time in alt world. I thinks its going to stay there or higher for a very very long time.
If you must go into an alt its your safest bet.

Nope ETH can easily decrease and increase depend on the price of bitcoin, actually almost all altcoin are not stable right now because most of altcoin are following the price of bitcoin. If the bitcoin price increase, most of altcoin price will be decrease and when the bitcoin price decrease most of altcoin price increase.

Xmr aka monero it had a pretty bad price in the past months but xmr price slowly increased in situations recently it had crossed $100 which is it's all time high value the price isn't $100 but as bithumb showed interest in after it get's listed the price will sky rocket. If wanna go for long term invest now every year the price gives a average 4 times of your initial and another reason would be all these btc mixing sites shutting down xmr would be a perfect alternative. Ignore the current huge increase it was just because of a announcement otherwise throughout the year it is stable.

Looking at coinmarket cap, litecoin seems the most stable one in old days Grin now I can't find even one good coin stable.

Tether is of course, no discussion the most stable altcoin ever as its fixed to dollar. But can you trust it enough? Other than Tether, most stable altcoins are Ethereum and Litecoin duo.

I think waves has some strong support at 100k satoshis. It is very strong in the last time and there are more good news coming up in the next time. You should take a look at it and do your own research Smiley
