We haven't seen a significant dip in difficulty with the halving yet (though it's a bit early to tell). So that guesstimate was based on the difficulty increases remaining roughly what they've been historically. It's very likely that in the next week everything could change. Part of the fun of being around during "The Halving" lol

I’m in the UK and my voltage is 235. Two commercial units.

Wow you really think it will be as low as that? I thought even in 6months from the halving the hash rate would be significantly less than just before. Even with the new gear, there must be a lot of S9s in the world been turned off.

It would take two years to break even with out any power costs or failed gear, at that rate.

900A @ 220? Jesus... you powering a small neighborhood or something? lol. Guess that resolves the power concern.

As for how much it would mine - at the current difficulty it would be 1 BTC. But difficulty will rise, and the new line of miners coming this summer, I'd guesstimate you're closer to seeing 0.5BTC out of it in the first year, then maybe another 0.25 the following year, maybe 0.1 in year 3?

I’m a bit concerned about the S19. Sitting on the fence with that one. I wouldn’t want to wait that long anyway.

I have access to around 900A of power with a fair bit of solar. So the loading is not an issue.

It will cost me around 0.6BTC + import for 6 S17 e. I would love to know how much it would mine over a year. In terms of BTC value I’m calculating around 1BTC??

Oh I totally get the hobby thing - I was just saying with a $6k investment there's no way to make $8k/yr (even before expenses) - the hashrate arms race continues as it has for ages since FPGA/ASIC mining first showed up. If the goal really is 1 BTC per year, what I suggested is the best way. If it's "I want to mine because it's fun, and it can offset most of the costs of me having fun" well that's another discussion altogether. That just doesn't line up with the FOMO comment earlier though.

In terms of best miner to buy, it's always been either the first of the new ones that aren't out yet (if you're fine waiting, which you said you might be) or the most efficient miner you can get RIGHT NOW to get mining before difficulty continues to rise.

The S19 Pro can be bought new from Bitmain and is shipping - looks like it's going to be a beast, but it's so hard to say what's going to happen between now and August in terms of difficulty increases (especially with the halving that just happened and the assumed drop that we didn't see yet). An S17e can be purchased and ships in the next month, that's a lot less "risky" in terms of difficulty increases. 6 of those would cost ~6k and would get you 360TH/s but do you even have the power necessary to run 6? That's around 20KW or roughly 90-95A of 220v power you'd need available (and at $0.10/KWh around $1500/mo in electric bills).

To buy your first year's BTC you only need about what you have in cash right now. To get next year's BTC, take the money you would have spent on energy for a year, and additional mining gear (to keep up with difficulty increases) and there you go, etc. Smiley

Thanks.

Struggling FOMO proper kicked in.

It depends on price of BTC. Anything 10k BTC ish will determine how I’m going to pay.

Why you saying wait do you not think they will sell out of gear?

I would like to earn around BTC a year (before costs). So I’m thinking 360TH/s will do this?? Suppose we can’t calculate properly at this stage?

thanks. Appreciate the comment.

Yes it is controlling me. Thinking about the S17 60Th now. Maybe just three

There seems to be a lot of traffic on Bitmain/Whatsminer. I wonder if they are selling or people just checking the pricing

breath deep relax.  wait just a bit.

are you 6 k in cash 💰?

if you are all cash 💵 consider holding some in coin.

say 5000 cash 1000 coin.

Im over in the UK so import is bit different. I will pay around $1200 dollars on this shipment.

I might cancel the order and risk losing my 430$ coupons. I paid by wire so I can stop the bank.

I was thinking the coin might jump with all the hype that's why I wanted to get in.

I no its a silly question but if the coin stays around the same price what do you think the earnings will be? taking into account all the gear that will get turned off?  Will it be roughly half or will increase a little as there is less competition. Before the halving I get it to be around 2.31BTC a year for a hash rate of 406TH/s

Thanks again!

Just an update. Cancelled my order with Bitmain, they have sent me the coupons straight back and sent me more.

Which suggests to me they are not busy. I will hang on until the price drops.

Been looking at whatsminer M31s at 80TH/s

I just don’t like the idea of 3.3kw on one lead 365days a year.

I guess I’m just panicking because I have been mining for so long at and don’t like the idea of having only 70TH and missing out.

Looking at the rewards for T17 vs a L3+ they are around the same.

no one will buy them after 1/2 ing unless price sky rockets to 12000 or higher.

do the math a t17+ was as low as 762. when coins were around 7.1k I got one for 762. on April 19 or so.

Product Name   Quantity   Price
Antminer T17+ 58TH/s   1   $762.00
Product Amount:   $762.00
Shipping Cost:   $156.36
Coupon:   - $76.00
Discount:   - $0.00
Total Amount:   $842.36

so they want 943 vs 762

coins are 9600 vs 7100. so. the price jump seems okay it is not. why

you are closer to 1/2 ing by 20 days
you are over use import tax limit of 800

you risk 30% tax on 943 vs 3 % tax on 762

but take into account you beat the tax.

you lose 20 days or more of 12.5 blocks. this gear earns 58 x 15 =. 8.70 a day x 20 = 174 usd. this is certain not if or maybe

so. that 943 is really 1117 vs the 762 it was on apr 19

if you make the coins price  adjustment .11635 btc May 9  to .10732 btc. April 19.

so you are buying higher priced gear .  which is why I was trying to discourage you.  as it is certainly a higher price then I paid on April 19.

you could still be correct if coins take off like a mofo and crest pass 12000 quickly you won't get cheaper gear. and you would be right . is coins wonder around at 9-10 k you would have jumped the gun.

Why do you think they will drop the price?

In feb I paid 960$ for same model the price is the same today. But the rewards are obviously going to drop. The price of BTC was around the same.

Do you think they are inflating the prices due to the hype around BTC at this time?
