I would add AppleByte to the list and instead of just saying it's good, here is why.

Below is a post from another thread celebrating our six month anniversary. The coin is in the top 100 (#86) on coinmarketcap.com and #17 on CoinGecko in terms of community size. We have a real user community (90% have never used a crypto before). The Devs have been public, known by their real names and could be reached directly from day one. We just posted a six month report on our progress in another thread:

---------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a copy of that post:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AppleByte is six months old today!
From the beginning we have said we are building for the longterm, and we are pleased with our progress to date.

To be successful longterm, a coin needs to meet the needs of three separate groups:

1. Real users - in our case, the community of artists (actors, filmakers, musicians, visual artists, etc) & art lovers worldwide
2. Miners - essential to supporting the network
3. Investors/Traders - because they are the ones who make the market - without them, who will the users & merchants sell the coins to

Our success to date is reflected in our price and growing industry recognition

We are one of the very few coins that has risen consistently in price this year (with normal volatility) and there have been no pumps & dumps.

Recent industry recognition:

A nice twitter acknowledgement from a friend in NYC

GoCoin Chairman & Co-founder, Brock Pierce twitter acknowledgement

Update on longterm plan:

Real users

 - our social media reach is now over 13,000 - 80% artists & art lovers, 20% crypto fans
 - they can mine, using the CPU on their laptops, and receive coins everyday, due to the bonus we pay CPU & GPU miners in the official pool
 - we promote AppleByte artists using our social media & forum, helping to build their careers
 - artist awards and scholarships given by the AppleByte Foundation
 - we provide places to spend AppleBytes (prepaid AppleByte VISA card, AMC Movie gift cards, Starbucks gift cards, restaurant gift cards, etc (subsidized by the AppleByte Foundation)

 - in current development: A twitter tipping app & and a site to sell music for AppleBytes

Miners
 - to support the broadest spectrum of miners, we limit the maximum hash per user on the official pool to 25mhs, keeping it profitable for GPU users, while accepting some ASICS
 - we held back the release of the linux source, to keep out the large multipools

Investors/Traders
 - listed on Poloniex on launch day
 - added Bittrex, 10/31/14
 - no pump & dump (Devs were paid in Bitcoin) not ABY

The reality of longterm altcoin success is that all the members of Bitcointalk combined are not enough people to build a longterm user community. The real users are outside Bitcointalk. Without real users, altcoins are nothing but pump & dumps. Think about it, how many "technological breakthrough" coins have come and gone this year?

Longterm success comes from outside. For example, no matter what your opinion of Doge, they proved the users are elsewhere, and built a real community outside these forums. I applaud them for that. And with the GoCoin/Bitpay/Paypal deal, they are here to stay.

Thanks to all of you who supported AppleByte, and helped us build the foundation of success that we have today.
If you have not joined us, I invite you to do your own diligence and join us if you believe we are on the right track.

Well there so many different alt coins now I have no idea which one i should stay with and hope it does well. I made this mistake with doge i was only active the first 1 or 2 weeks with doge and sold my 350K of it when it was way cheap. Now its basically $1/k.

Can you guys help me out here and point me in the right direction and why you think that coin will do best

I would suggest you look at various metrics in determining the potential of a coin like the developer activity, community strength, liquidity, public interest and market capitalisation. Look at metrics and find coins which have strong metrics for each category. This will give you a better gauge of the strength of the coin.

CoinGecko will help you with this evaluation by providing these various metrics.

if you want to earn profit from altcoins any of them can be good (best!) for you if you catch it in the pumping phase then sell before the dump Cheesy
but i found out that there are some exceptions that "might" grow and you can make a profit over long time. IMO it depends on the community or acceptance of the coin and the dev team

As you can see now, i was right
but how i could know that..
Bitcoin already had its big price rise
AND namecoin is muuuuuuuch more rare then bitcoin and is even harder to mine
and on top of that as i said bitcoin was already very expensive while namecoin was worth veeeery little Smiley

if you are planning to hold coins for a long time, the best coin for you is namecoin without any doubt.

What makes you say Namecoin over Bitcoin? I can't see Namecoin being a better investment than BTC.

if you are planning to hold coins for a long time, the best coin for you is namecoin without any doubt.
the only problem is that it is the second hardest coin to mine (after bitcoin).
if you want to make money trough mining coins, the best coins for you are 1. catcoin 2. bitbar 3. globalcoin especially when you can hold them for a long time but if you can't you can mine litecoin and sell instantly and still earn much from it
lottocoin and dogecoin are also a good bet but lottocoin is largly based on luck and dogecoin even more!

If you want to involve in Alt coin then try to reserch
Not a one time reserch Everyday
Alts depends on Bitcoin, Litecoin and there pairs
Always remember that base coin is going to gain so investing in base coin is always profitable (May be not daily but long term)
All other coins are pumping and dumping all the time so if you got good chance in such moments then you could make a bit
always make sure you dont invest in Shit coins for a long term.
Premine Shit coins are just to play day trading nothing worth for long holding.
Good Luck

I was thinking either just i guess late starting with doge (again) and maybe investing some in it or just stick with investing ltc since everything else is so unstable and there are so many useless coins.

Anyone else care to share which coin they think is "the best"?

What do you define as "the best"? All you'll get here are cryptoplebs pushing their particular coin on you because it's in their interests to do so.

Don't listen to what anyone tells you and do your own research. Thats the only way you can make a good decision.

If you are investing long term i would recommend peercoin. If you want to gamble short term I would rather bet on sports.  Smiley
