From my experience, beginners could get more useful information from youtube videos, blog posts, and of course google search. Then if you have problems and couldn't find your answer, you can try StackExchange, Quora, or bitcointalk technical support or beginners and help.

I think this forum will be more suitable to discuss more about opinion and not a step-by-step guide.
I personally hate to repeat something that already present on the internet, maybe I will patiently explain something (if I need some merits Grin) but most of the time, my attitude will be "please do your research."

I agree with this.

If you have legit questions, this forum is an amazing place

There are lots of knowledge people here, like bitcoin devs, who gladly answer to any good question.

Also, simple questions like wallet problems are answered almost instantaneously because of the financial incentive to post provided by signature campaign.

These 2 happens in bitcoin technical support and discussion boards.

You can't learn trading, you have to read a lot, see statistics, have some luck and measure risks. Trading isn't knowledge at all, it's luck because statistics will always give you a reason to make a mistake and it happens when you follow bars/charts.
And if you want to learn something, follow this man: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/achow101-290195
Altcoin mining boards can help you if you want to learn mining, I already wrote how to learn technical things.

I see. Thanks, I will look into it. I get that trading is more luck and risks, but I just thought I will have easier time trading if I know what I am getting myself in to and I understand what steps I should take or not.

Thanks! Right now my goal is to buy bitcoins first, then trade later on when I have really learned everything I can about trading.

Nice dude! I don't know if you have been into crypto before or not, but you could potentially be choosing to get into bitcoin at a really good time! The sentiment is really poor right now and the bitcoin price has mostly been going sideways (trading around $6k-$6500, tight range) for a while. This is all after a HUGE selloff from 19k, so this could be the bottom, so great spot for you to invest!

I mean, I certainly do not want to lose my hard earned money just because I started trading without fully understanding how it works.

Definitely learn all you can before you start actively trading, don't go off and start trading your bitcoin on bitmex with huge leverage because you are sure to get rekt and liquidated. I would stay away from using any leverage at all even when you learn more about trading.

I have also heard and read about scammers and hackers so I am being cautious about these things.

I would say the most important thing about security is 2FA (2 factor authentication), also get an email address solely for crypto activities to use for all your crypto accounts. Here is an OK steem article talking about exchanges and cold storage.
https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@cryptohero.info/cryptocurrency-security-101-exchanges-aren-t-safe

But honestly don't go waaayy out of your way to get all your coins in cold storage, unless you have alot. These exchanges today are held at such a higher security standard than they were in 2013/2014, especially the top tier ones. So if you use coinbase and have 2FA and a strong password then I wouldn't worry too much about storing your BTC on there. Some people may disagree but thats just my opinion....I mean shit they are insured.

As for YouTube videos, do you have any recommended YouTube channels I can check out that is reliable?

Even though James quit posting a long time ago, these videos are really good to give you a foundation like understanding of bitcoin. I would watch a couple of these to get started.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgo7FCCPuylVk4luP3JAgVw/videos

Man there are sooo many youtubers now-a-days, honestly I only follow a couple of them because MOST of them will just shill you their favorite coin and tell you their "Top 5 Coins to buy".....not really give you good information.

Carter Thomas is good and also is Chris Dunn, I respect their morals, Chris Dunn only covers crypto from time to time but his information is really good.

https://www.youtube.com/user/chrisdunntv

Good luck dude, wish you the best!

I have tried buying bitcoins before but only for one time and it was the time when I have not learned a lot yet about bitcoins and cryptocurrency itself. Did not have a good start so I stopped before I lose more money and decide to continue learning and reading about it. I have a friend who also wants to get into crypto but his reasons is so he would earn money fast so he can pay his debts. He is also careless so I stopped him. Together we are learning about it.

Thank you for all of your help. This will definitely help me and my friend to really learn about bitcoin. Especially the YouTube videos, these will help explain everything easily and quickly.

Thanks! I have checked StackExchange before but I am not a member there yet. I get that google search and YouTube may be easier but to be honest sometimes it is hard to find a YouTube channel that you can rely on. I have seen some videos before though and they are very helpful.

Try this board to get an idea for where to buy and sell:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=223.0

There is also some good discussion from time to time on this board:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0

Here is a decent post about charts/charting:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.20819440

It really kind of depends what exactly you are looking for, if you want to learn the basics of how to buy and sell on a certain exchange then it's probably best to just youtube a tutorial since it's much easier to watch and learn from a video rather than text and images on a forum.

If you are looking for more advanced technical analysis stuff like the image below, then go to Tone Vay's website and follow his learn trading tutorial, he is one of the best trading mentors out there and has good morals when it comes to bitcoin.

If you are only finding topics that are "the same" then that seems to imply that you've read through them all and are tired of them. So, if you have all of the information from these threads then you should be pretty educated in terms in cryptocurrencies, or at least Bitcoin. Reading through the Development & Technical Discussion would probably be a great place for you to formulate pointed questions or conceptual questions and get the balling rolling. If you want to learn something about cryptocurrencies, simply decide what you'd like to learn and do research on that topic.

Do you understand how mining works, sending a transaction or generating a private key? If not, I would read more about these topics.
Have you read the original Whitepaper published by Satoshi?

Thank you, I will read through the Development & Technical Discussion board. I have checked it out before but am not active in that board. I have read the original whitepaper published by Satoshi but it was a long time ago when I did. I probably need to read it again to learn more about cryptocurrency and how it works. I also have read about mining before but not so much about sending transactions or generating private keys, although I have of course heard of these topics before. Any more suggestions that will truly help me learn about cryptocurrency will be very much appreciated.

I would have to agree with mu_enrico I think. There's better alternatives for specific answers, and this forum acts as a discussion point for those who already have a fair amount of knowledge about the subject. Of course, the forum isn't limited to that, and there's questions asked every day. But, this information might be a little more difficult to find on here than Stackexchange for example.

I think the best place to start is here: [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?)

It's a list of guides that will help you learn a lot about crypto currencies in general and much more.

I also created a couple guides on :
1. Exchanges if you're interested in trading crypto currency here: [Guide] Best/Top Crypto Exchanges: Fees & more
2. CryptoNight coin mining here: [CryptoNight] CPU mining guide & coins that will get you a return

Good luck on your research Wink

What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger
I happen to have just the thing for you my man! Cool
This thread managed by pugman is one of my favorites to learn about Bitcoin while I'm doing the research my own and also earn merits.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/a-simple-bitcoin-qa-learn-new-and-interesting-stuff-about-bitcoin-2968050
This is a thread for both experienced users who want to share their knowledge and be rewarded merits and new users who want to learn from the questions and answers of others.

#1 VIP Crypto Casino
The general section of the forum in English is populated and full of spam, my itailan section instead practically with 0% spam, so as a first suggestion is to look at your section.
As a second example I tell you to look at the altcoin section and avoid all the mega threads that are particularly full for 90% of spam messages, look for people who post high quality stuff and search their history and follow their threads, this is a good point where to start.

I am alive but in hibernation.
I know I can always come to the Beginners board and ask and look around but every board seem to have the same topics, so I wonder if there is a particular board here that I can come to, to read more and learn about cryptocurrencies? Something I can learn about proper trading and buying cryptos, a board where every newbie can actually learn about it and not get typical replies like be smart and patient and do your research? Thank you.
I am bit confused with your question as it is not making clear whether you want to learn about crypto currencies or you want to learn about trading of crypto currencies. They are different knowledge branch . For learning Crypto currencies I will suggest to pick few coin from top 20 like BTC, ETH and read their white paper do the transaction in it discuss in relevant thread.
But if you want to learn trading  then I think you can start with investopedia articles

The forum is in a state of flux right now.  All boards have the same topics because they are mostly spam.  :/

Hopefully a decision will be made soon on how to handle this problem, as the sysop is reluctant to hire new moderators.
