It actually applied to ALL coins at some point to a degree - some of the CPU-specific coins might run better on Intel, but Intel's presense in graphics is a sad joke for the most part (even the Haswell and Skylake APUs don't match my 2 generation old A10-5700s on graphic performance overall).

Doesn't apply CURRENTLY to SHA256/Scrypt/X11 coins as the ASICs have taken those over, but that leaves a very large number of coins that work well on AMD hardware (and a FEW that work better on Nvidia).

Well, AMD used to manufacture Intel chips, then went off by itself, so their chips aren't quite intel quality, ever since then. Skylake HD Graphics can beat AMD APUS, but remember that the clockrate of each Skylake gpu varies with the processor. I.e HD 530 is faster in a 7600K(not quite sure it even has 530) but is slower in a i7-6700HQ.  Also remember that you're comparing a desktop APU to both desktop AND laptop GPU. Intel still has the better efficiency, core performance, and overall is better with cpus, so it's no wonder they run better on CPU coins. It kind of evens out in GPUland, with AMD destroying Nvidia, but there are a very few coins that are nvidia-centered or something. (2-3, not very many lol)

I had to do a double take for a second two Leo's in a row Smiley.   But CPU coins are kinda dead in my view there just is not anything I see as making enough to pay electricity off of.   I wish it was not true and there was a good alt.  Chances of paying electricity to mine CPU coins are slim... and ROI on CPU chip not even a chance do I see specifically looking at nice chips.

And a lot of the Intel integrated GPU's just don't have enough power to make it worthwhile.  Best by far is Ether it's on a heck of a run.  And takes a decent GPU those intel integrated that most motherboards have just does not cut it.

Hi guys. That is pretty much my question.
Which firm of mining hardware providers is the best one?

I want to setup a mining rig (I have no problem with a free access to electricity) but I don't what hardware I need to buy. There are so much thing here: Antminer (a bunch of models), Bitfurry and other stuff. I have no financial problems and ready to invest 5000$ into my mining rig. Should I buy China or US made hardware? Which one is the best one?

Thanks a lot in advance of advise  Smiley

I would advise that if you would consider purchasing antminer from bitmain you should  buy S9, it is the newest model right now. The newest the model the more hashpower you will have and you will save time mining. Dont purchase s7 and below since it will be outdated soon. Outdated models mean low haspower more power and more maintenance, which entails less profit.

I just realised there is a good, totally accurate, and probably everyone can agree with it answer to the original question - as long as the hardware provider doesn't have to be mining-specific or an ASIC maker.

 AMD.

 8-)

If we are talking about ether which has gone popular it I would agree as far as GPU.  I have had many many AMD GPU's in different brand's and had pretty good luck a few RMA's along the way in LTC day's a while ago.

This does not carry over to BTC since SHA256 is by far an asic game.  No gpu can compete anymore.

We need to know more information to really be of help.   What is your electricity price that is going to be one of biggest factors?   Also do you have a area heat/sound will be ok?   What is area like?

We just need to know a lot more to be of any meaningful help.

There's a shorter explanation, if you don't want to read that much. Antpool and friends mine empty blocks that process no transactions except the 25 BTC given to the pool that mines the block, and so they contribute to full blocks. This means that they are causing huge jams of transactions that can last for days. In addition to that, kano has better luck and lower fees than Antpool, and you're supporting a pool built by one of the members of bitcointalk. Sure, Bitmaintech makes our miners, but they're getting more and more corrupted and I wouldn't funnel in my hash power to them as well.

That won't be a problem at all. The miners will be outside my living enviroment but I really have a problem with ventilation in my garage. I'll have to put some fans I guess to cool the whole setup down and make some natural ventilation. I'm sure of one thing - the fire extinguisher will be there for the worst case scenario  Smiley

You need to get airflow INTO / OUT OF the garage, not just around it, or overheat will happen. Fans in windows are a good place to start.

It really depends on how much gear you have.   I had to use a IN/Out with air since evaporation cooling is not a option in my climate.  Eventually I had to get a industrial gable fan that pushes out a lot of CFM.

And ofcourse I use lot's some big fan's to push air.   I can adjust it down to save money on cool day's.

I'm also keep thinking about industrial fans but I'll see exactly what I need when I'll have the rigs. In addition to fans I'll make some ducts to make an air flowing. Thanks for advice!

IMO Innosilicon is overall the most reputable manufacturer of hardware - but they don't currently make SHA256 chips (dunno what happened for sure on their A3, guessing the efficiency wasn't there to be competative and they decided to shelve it or take it back to redesign for better?).

Bitmain is king in SHA256 at this point, being the first to actually market a MINER in the 14/16nm full-custom generation - which is a shame since Bitfury demoed their comparable chip MONTHS ago but still has nothing available as a miner.

I suspect the market is going to look a LOT different well before the end of the year though, with BW having a few of it's LK-1402 spotted in the wild, and Bitfury SHOULD get it's chips into some sort of miner by then, and Avalon actually having started work on that generation (though their buyout might complicate things, dunno if they'll still be sellers to end users, but the buyout SHOULD give them plenty of cash to develop WITH).

I like lots of standard "box" type fans with an A/C filter on the intake side, positive pressure filtered air is VERY good for dust control - if you can push enough of it.

Might have to go "industrial" fans at some point though, I'm starting to hit limits on how much air the box fans can push.

With my mining area i had to go to "commercial" gable fan eventually.   Just needed a exhust of heat I was not getting with regular home gable fan's.   Luckily all my costs with fan's and wiring and such were around a year ago really paid for.   I am going into my second summer with it.   Living in midwest means lot's of CFM's since evaporation cooling not a option.

But as far as firm with best gear right now S9 is just taking the show.   No one else has released anything publicly with near the efficiency.   There are pics of BW chips in another thread.... but even if they get close to the efficiency of S9 Bitmain really beat them getting it all out before having.   Currently they are king.

Bitmain is the best. Slowly the other competition is also dropping out and so maybe Bitmain will be the only ones who actually make anything in the future. Then they really could control things (like they are now)

i'd rather choose antminer and fyi wait for a while after halving, i heard that bitmain will release s9, i don't know if its true or not.

S9 had been released and will ship on June 12th, in 4 days. Trouble is it's crappy, why everyone thinks it's mother's milk, I don't know. Bitmain hasn't released anything of quality and value since S3. Their S5 and S7 have sold well but that doesn't mean jack shit. Oftentimes, their gear goes up in flames if you look at it funny. China-built, China-quality. I hope you buy them and your house goes up in flames. Don't blame me, I told you so.

I don't know what lead you to this conclusion. I've read many positive feedbacks here about Bitmain hardware and nobody's home burned down.

One thing to remember regarding your "free power". I expect there are limits on it as you mentioned, but furthermore, at a practical level a miner converts electricity to heat. A 1000W miner is just like a 1000W heater. If that is going to impact your living environment in some way, be aware of it. Some miners are also quieter than other, with the general being that the hight the wattage, the louder it is. If you are thinking of putting two S9 miners in a closet, what would it be like if you were to put 3 hair dryers, on full blast, in there round the clock.

Would that be a problem?

You're confusing Bitmain gear with KNC, especially the Neptune and to a lesser degree the Titan, where KNC designed the units to exceed the spec on the connectors for power they were using.

The issues with the Bitmain S7 have been the crappy job on applying the individual heatsinks to the mining chips, and the price being too high for most folks to ever have a reasonable chance to ROI them given how short a time they appeared before the reward halfing (and then the diff increases ended up making them pretty much unprofitable for most WELL before the halfing).

I suspect the S9 might have the same heatsink issue, but there is no way to know for sure before folks start recieving them. It shouldn't have an issue achieving ROI if it's as long-lasting as the average S5 was (or most S7s to date that didn't have heatsink issues or had said issues fixed properly before use).

The S5 was actually a quite solid unit, as long as you didn't push the OVERCLOCK way high or try to run it with low-airflow fans in the name of keeping it quieter.
Mine had no issues with an Iowa summer without A/C in a place that the airflow was fair but not great, ambient temps inside were running 6-8 degrees above outside temps most of the summer. Not exactly the sign of a unit that "Oftentimes" "goes up in flames"....

What would lead you to this conclusion?   The S7 has been ran by many many people including myself.  The S9 looks to follow the S7 so I predict it does well.   And it's efficiency no other miner on the market is close to is why everyone thinks it's great.   You have to see how it is a big jump in efficiency.

I'm guessing your trolling with the comment's about flames.   I think if anything someone using wrong gauge cable's or crappy Y cables is at fault, and cheap PSU's is more commonly reported.  Can you point to 1 house burning down due and cause being a Antminer?  I just have not seen it .... which again leads me to think your trolling.

It depends  on his cash situation vs his amount of power situation - if he's got lots of cash and low power limit, it DOES make sense to go efficient in order to maximise his hashrate.

Go for hashnest o Bitfury
If electricity is a problem, second hand miners are probably better and much cheaper

If not, an antminer S7 or S9 are probably the best ways to go, though if you purchase miners second hand they will arrive much faster and with power supplies

He mention's he has "free electricity" so I'm not sure why you would send him to the cloud for mining.   "Free" electricity he will make more mining at his place.   So kinda not the route I see him going.

With "free" electricity he does not need the latest and greatest efficiency so I think S9 would not make sense for him.  Waiting till having and snagging some bargins on S7's likely is best thing he can do.  And this assumes he can handle noise/heat.

Right now, your best choice *IF* you have enough money for 3-4 of them would be the S9 - but IMO wait for the price to come down some.

They'll do the best job of "loading up" your amount of free power the most efficiently - and nobody has announced anything that can top their efficiency by a noticeable degree, much less has anything competative in production RIGHT NOW as a miner.

Thanks for advise. I actually already thought about waiting for the price to come down. I think before I'll gather sufficient information about the rigs the price will come down Smiley

Honestly I would start off small to.  If your budget is 5k I would not go all out right away.  Get less gear and make sure you have enough money for cooling, shelving, PDU, etc (depends on your setup).

But if you start out small it's easier to add more and you can do it hopefuly easily and you will know your setup's limits.  One of the worst thing for miners is buying them and not having all parts ready, so you have downtime.

Well if want to buy USA gear you need to build a pc and mine eth coin.

If you want to buy from China the s-9 or s-7. From bitmaintech or Avalon 6s from Avalon.

How much free power do you have?

10 kwatts or 2 kwatts  or more or less.

The s-9 uses 1.4 kwatts per hour.
The s-7 uses 1.3 kwatts per hour
The Avalon 6 uses 1100 watts per hour.

I have a few used s-7 s and Avalon 6s if you want.

I have something around 5-6 kwatts of free power per hour.

s-9 uses 1.4 kwatts per hour and Avalon 6 uses 1.1 kwatts per hour. Does it mean that s-9 is a better mining hardware than Avalon?

There is no US made hardware....Bitmain & Avalon (aka Canaan Creative) are the only ones selling NEW stuff.

Best bet I would say is old S3's or if you got money,new/used S7's  Wink

There was at one point with butterfly labs, although a lot of the stuff was still made out of country.  But we saw how they went and scammed so many people and lost a lot of people money.  Horrible shipping... etc.  So there was decent sized maker in US, they just were horrible and we have not seen a commercial sized one since (that I know of).

Best if going by efficiency is going to be S9.  Bitmain is kinda beating others to releasing next gen it looks like currently.
