The impression I've got from Kano and his pool is that he doesn't particularly care to grow it. I mean I'm sure he's stoked that it's where it is today, but I remember when it was a 1-3PH pool and it still had all the potential is does today but for whatever reason it was underutilized, and it didn't seem to me that he went out of his way to try to attract users by any other means than providing the most efficient pool software that he could.

Why give (false?) impressions and try to lure people with bells and whistles? You even admitted, once you learned you moved to kano, so will the other newbies. I don't think he cares to attract people (or waste his coding time) with fluff and no substance when that effort could be put into making the pool actually run better, not just look different.
I think we are in agreement here, however I do believe that there is a value in aesthetically pleasing layouts. Kano is an awesome pool, I don't think that giving it a facelift would give anyone a false impression considering the history of the pool. In ecommerce, millions upon millions of dollars are spent in research figuring out what people want the site to look like so that they'll visit site xyz more than site abc. If there was ever a desire or push to increase kano's pool size I think a refresh would be helpful. I did some test mining a whole week in ckpool and I concluded that F2Pool pays more.

Yep a few days of bad luck here at kano.is means that indeed if you rig your test to occur when we have bad luck, you can find that any pool pays better than the pool with bad luck.
However, long term and the expected payout is higher - but again, have fun earning less there

As a new miner, what attracted me to the bigger pools (slush antpool etc) is their intuitive and easy to read website. Getting into bitcoin, much less mining without anyone to guide you along the way is a daunting task. Naturally most go with what they see is the easiest to get setup and running, at least thats what i did. Slowly after doing more research i moved all my hashpower to kano and it has been a rewarding experience. I think that more people would be inclined to join kano right out of the gate if the site looked and felt like slush or antpool. Pretty colors, stats, FAQ's, graphs all laid out in an aesthetically pleasing manner give the impression of legitimacy to those who don't know any better (aka noobs or the ignorant). Just one noob's opinion.

Kano has improved since I started this thread.
they were 104% life time and are now 107.2 % lifetime
f2pool is 96% after fees.
kano is 107.3% after fees How is that possible that they have better luck after fees then before fees. simple they give you the transaction fees from the block.
f2pool keeps the transaction fees.
basically if you mined with kano since 2013 you would have earned
1073 kano

I am not attacking slush as I said their current luck is good. but the lifetime is 98.5 % vs 106.3 %
I just put my hard gear on kano and don't think much about it.
When I cam back to kano in jan of 2016 the lifetime luck was 104% now in very late mat it is 106%
So I have had 108% luck since jan that works for me.
about 500 blocks at 108%
