It depends largely on your strategy and how potential the toke you have is. If it is a potential coin and it is also stable, I will buy and hold on long term to earn big profit by the time I decide to sell but if it is a coin without much potential, I invest on short term so I will not be at loss.
Before invest in any coin analyse the market thoroughly, which coins suit for long term or short term. Which coins have high potential in the market. You have to check the details and then you invest. I prefer long term only because invest in long term will give more profit than short term. If you invest in bitcoin means current situation is not good so hold the coin for future. Once the price fly to moon you can sell and gain more income.
That depends on the tactics of each and every stage of the market. For example, when the whole market is red, you can still make a profit by short waves, in addition you can invest in part of long-term investments.
I think both are better investments but the term investment really depends on the type of coin you are holding. As always, situations like these need to be assessed on a case-to-case basis. An investment is an investment regardless of the time-period and either short or long term can be profitable or not-profitable. Make sure you do your research and follow the basic investing principles with specific attention to CRYPTO investing (there is a huge difference between crypto compared to traditional stock investing) and you should be fine either way.
It depends on who you are. I think people who do not know basic analysis and technical analysis should learn them first. My personal idea is very difficult in everyday trade in cryptos. For this reason I prefer long-term investment by doing a good research.

If you want to make a good profit without having to worry about prices 24/7 you should focus on projects with long term development and just wait for them to reach their goals. I prefer short term trading with hyped coin and long term investment with potential coins. Right now, my long term investment is REMME. I think the strategy highly depends on the coin you are investing. If the coin is institutional so to speak, the likes of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Stratis, Ethereum Classic, Waves, etc. it is better to hodl them long term because they are so solid that they would surely increase in value over time. And the longer you hodl them, the bigger your profit. Those coins that are not that established and appear not so solid are good for short terms investment.

What fo you mean watch the price for your wife? Anyway, xrp is good enough for investment but its not my choice. it has very huge supply and it makes itself can not go further up in high jump. I want the coin which can jump over and over in high range.
