With all the love for .308, I am surprised nobody has picked the M-14 over the M-16?

I would love to have a Remington 700P .308 with the ACIS Chassis...Droooooool.

Well I Own A AR15 and AK, So I can offer some insight as to what I would Consider the best.

When I bought my AR I bought the best model I could find, National Match, Titanium barrel,Left Hand Twist, Custom Made, Featured in a magazine on the cover(1 of only 2 made by this smith),etc

Its a great Military Rifle, You can hit anything at any sane distance.

But K.I.S.S Rules the world

A 6 year old can take apart a AK and Clean it, you can drop it in the mud and then go kill an entire village with it.
You can buy an AK for under $100 USD in most war torn countries

if I had ONLY 1 Gun and it wasn't a .306,.308, or .50 Cal, it would be an AK hands down.

Galil. (Chose the related Kalash from the list.)
I'll say sg 550 even if I dislike I'll have to use that one as swiss.

Added these as options for the poll.

Not that I understand much about rifles, but spend enough time with one and you develop loyalty.

ak-47 is amazing for reliability.  If you want something that's going to be cheap to stock assloads of ammo for, get anything that fires a 5.56mm full jacket - you can get cases of 5,000 rounds for surprisingly cheap.

but this... this is my ultimate love...  this is the opposite end of the spectrum (and obviously for a bit closer range) i.e. NOT CHEAP.  In fact, you can buy a fairly nice car for less than one of these.
