For day to day use it's better to stick with mobile wallets like trust wallet or atomic wallet but for long term holding hardware wallets are the best, and to be on safer side always keep your private keys safe, it's meant for only one person

Many things that you ask come from experience, no one can tell you which coins will bring you fortune by holding. I suggest to stick around and read things.

Regarding wallets, wallets like coinomi are good for beginners and for small holdings.

Using a hardware wallet you won't get hacked and you will smoothly send/receive and store all the coins you need.

If only it were that simple then we would be talking about a 100% secure solution for secure cryptocurrency storage. Yet every device of this type has at least two weaknesses.

- a seed that serves as a backup, and which if stored incorrectly (e-mail, plain text document on PC, or a piece of paper lying around) means that it is only a matter of time before the user is greeted by an unpleasant surprise.

- human ignorance that results in typing that same seed into various fake apps or fake websites looking for just that information with the pretext that HW is corrupt or that the user will get a certain amount of some coin if they enter their seed.

Also, not everything is always perfect when it comes to sending and receiving coins through the apps behind HW, sometimes you need to look for alternative solutions through a third-party wallet - an example is Ledger who had problems with DOGE transactions a few days ago, and in this case there were none alternative wallets.

I can only repeat that the best crypto wallet is one in which the user fully understands all its advantages and disadvantages - because how else to explain that every day users of custodial and non-custodial wallets lose their coins due to phishing, fake wallets or cheap tricks like "send me 0.01 BTC, and I'll send you 0.02 in 5 minutes"

I am new to Cryptocurrency and I hear of people complaining heavily about how the loose their coin to scammers. I get scared of investing most of the times. On different count I get advice from friends to try invest in Cryptocurrency. I have gone on line to source for answer but I get confused.

I have plans of investing $400 in Crypto now my challenge is which coin should I start with, considering different coin scattered across different exchanges. I no of Bitcoin and Etherium but where to buy from and how to start is my challenge.

If I succeed in buying where do I store the coin, which of the wallet will be safer for me. I am scared of loosing this because this is my last fortune. As a girl child I want to be self reliant and independent. Some one introduced me to bitcointalk where I can ask questions and get direction on how to start up a business by buying Cryptocurrency and living it for a longer period of time by so doing I will accumulate wealth on a long-term base.

I still don't understand how this coin appreciate and how I can make profit by just keeping a coin without doing anything with it. Because I am still naive and need clarity on this. I wouldn't like to loose all I have got out of carelessness. Sorry if am too curious i'm  only trying to apply caution so I don't regret. I know this system has made so many rich thats why I decided to drop this here
Electrum. But make sure to download it from their official web page. https://electrum.org/

It's one of the oldest open-source wallets out there and a lot of reputable programmists contributed to its development. And I never heard that someone's electrum wallet was hacked.

I have gotten enough knowledge on where to begin thanks to @Coolcryptovator for the encouragement. Going with electrum for my bitcoin wallet I just got one from my play store and its user friendly.

Thanks to every one I really got the answers I wanted much appreciation from my side.  Grin

In general, for your own safety and preservation of your funds, it is recommended to trust the site from   https://electrum.org/ which you can download the application, and then check the GPG signature.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spesmilo/electrum/master/pubkeys/ThomasV.asc

Make sure you download the correct app, as you are still a beginner and are at high risk of falling into the hands of scammers.

Usually I would suggest to get hardware wallet. But if you're planning to invest just $400, then probably it's not worth to buy it. Desktop walllet like Electrum is good choice. If you're planning to hold coins for longer time and don't trade it, make paper wallet.
If $400 is your last fortune, then don't invest it. Golden rule of investing - don't invest more than you afford to lose.
I won't suggest you specific coins to invest. But I think it's safest to invest into coins proven by time - Bitcoin, Ethereium, Litecoin and etc. Not Doge definitely. Avoid hyped shitcoins and always make your own research before investing.

Welcome to the crypto world. First of all, there is 2 way to lose your funds, it's scam and hack. Just don't mix both, because both are different. So primarily you have to save your funds from the hacker by saving your wallet. Secondly don't hand over your funds to the scammer once you see a greedy offer. So for choosing a wallet the right thing is buying and hardware wallet if you can afford it. Since you are going to start with little funds, so it would be a good start with a noncustodial wallet. For Bitcoin just go with the Electrum wallet. Make sure how to install and save your seed. Otherwise, you might lose funds. So please read the pinned post on this board regarding the wallet. Best of luck with your crypto journey.

You will lose coins to the scammers if you are buying from them personally or believe their high return schemes, so never ever do such things to avoid scams.

$400 of ethereum MEW can be the best but if you are going to buy multiple coins then wallets like Coinomi or Trust can serve better for you instead of downloading wallet for each coins.

You can use Binance exchange for buying cryptos but if your fiat is not supported there then I suggest you to start buying your first bitcoin(s) on peer to peer platforms like LBC or localcryptos, then use your BTC to buy other cryptos on binance.

I have plans of investing $400 in Crypto now my challenge is which coin should I start with
You should start with bitcoin and bitcoin alone. Most other coins are abandoned, vaporware, scams, or some combination of these three.

I am scared of loosing this because this is my last fortune.
You absolutely should not put your last remaining money in to bitcoin. The price could drop by 20% tomorrow. Would you be prepared if this happens?

I know this system has made so many rich thats why I decided to drop this here
You will not become rich by buying $400 worth of bitcoin. The days of people becoming millionaires from scratch with bitcoin are over.

Is binance reliable. And how do I buy from there. Is it a company, a website or an app? If I decide to buy will there sell to me and how do I use the app? Is it easy to use?
Binance is a company, which have both their own website and their own app. If you decide to buy there, you will first need to register for an account, then undergo KYC procedures which will involve verifying your identity by sharing your personal information and copies of your ID with them, then fund your account with a bank transfer or other deposit method, then exchange your fiat for bitcoin, and finally withdraw your bitcoin to your own wallet. If you don't want to share your personal information and ID with complete strangers, then you will need to use a peer to peer exchange instead.

Here are some pointers you should look out for when investing in a company so you don't fall for scams.
1. Avoid random telegram groups. In fact stay off telegram I know it sounds extreme but you'd be thankful you did.
2. Do not trust anyone claiming they will give you bitcoin or help you mine bitcoin for a small fee.
3. Do not trust the pretty girl in the fancy dress trying to convince of you of a golden opportunity.
4. Never trust anyone who promises to track and give you vsvk your lost Bitcoins. You most likely will get scammed again

You can purchase using credit card, or bank transfer from any exchange or wallet like Binance, Bitfinex, Kraken, Coinbase.
or wallets like Jaxx, Mycelium, Blockchain Or buy directly from other people.
Hodling is always a good idea. If you are looking to buy alts you should do proper research before buying so you don't have an heart attack.

If you are not willing to invest more than 400 USD, you should download Electrum.org wallet

Otherwise, buy a harware wallet.

Those are the safest options for newbies.
Ledger Nano S and Trezor One are the most basic models and they cost about 50-60 USD.

Using a hardware wallet you won't get hacked and you will smoothly send/receive and store all the coins you need.

Start your crypto journey with one of the most popular crypto exchange called binance,
Is binance reliable. And how do I buy from there. Is it a company, a website or an app? If I decide to buy will there sell to me and how do I use the app? Is it easy to use?

Binance is a cryptocurrency exchange site where you can buy and sell bitcoins and other crypto, they do have a app to so maybe try to explore this if you are interested to use them. They are much recommended since they have a good reputation for long years. But as I see your so new better do a lot more researcg before thinking trading your bought coins there.

Bitcoin will be preferable to start with, but this is not a question that anyone should answer you, because it is your money, you have the responsible to check the price history of many cryptocurrencies and invest on the one you think it is of your choice that will make you profit . Make your own research using cryptocurrencies price history and do not invest on shit coins (low volume coins)

If I succeed in buying where do I store the coin, which of the wallet will be safer for me.
Hardware wallet is the best, your private key is offline, but still make sure you protect your coins by protecting the device used to operate the hardware wallet making  sure it is not having malware. You can use electrum to operate the hardware wallet, Trezor will be the best hardware wallet to use as it is open source, but ledger nano is good but its secure element is close source. If you want to use Trezor, make sure you use passphrase along.

I still don't understand how this coin appreciate and how I can make profit by just keeping a coin without doing anything with it.
The price of the coin multiply by the amount you invested.

To hold cryptocurrencies, binance is not recommendable, you need a wallet that can generate you private key, binance is just a centralized exchange that do not give you the complete control of your coins because they have the private key, not you. Not your key not your coin. If you have any funds on binance and want to hold, better move it to noncustodial wallet like electrum. But, for best security, offline wallets like hardware wallets are better, preferably Trezor. Binance is for trading cryptocurrencies, or buying, but some people still even prefer to make use of decentralized exchanges like bisq to buy bitcoin. If you want to buy cryptocurrencies on binance, know that it is centralized and custodial, move your funds to noncustodial wallet after.

https://www.binance.com/en/blog/318034612921425920/How-to-Buy-Bitcoin-A-Quick-Guide-from-Binance

For privacy, I will suggest you to use decentralized exchanges like Bisq

Start your crypto journey with one of the most popular crypto exchange called binance, you can use credit card to make purchase or other means of payment too, also I believe for a newbie Ethereum and BTC are still the best options, the most convenient crypto wallet is hardware wallet but mobile wallet always works too, all you need is Trust wallet, after opening your new wallet pls write down your recovery seed, this is a private key 🔐🔐 that must not be shared with another person ever, this is the only way to access your coins if you lost your phone..keep that safe and you are good
