The fundamentals aren't even close to being there. The core development team is working hard on making Bitcoin sound. They are doing epic work and will deserve statues one day. We need a lot more development before mass adoption. At this rate it will be 1-2 years before really useful smartphone apps are developed. Then another 1-2 years before people realize that Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme. Then another 1-2 years before people start designing powerful business tools that take advantage of Bitcoin's unique properties not accessible by traditional currencies.
