Thanks for the edit

I don't use IRC anymore. Is #bitcoin-wiki totally dead on both servers, such that it shouldn't even be mentioned?
Freenode is definitely dead, I don't know for how long but. I keep seeing the web server down error.

I think that can be removed

**In BTC since 2013**
If memory serves me right there was a language l10n effort back in the day and was made admin for one of the local branches. If help is needed I'd like to assist as it would be really cool to have the Bitcoin wiki an up to date resource again!

Let's try, let's try.

I think the first phase is to reorganize. There is so much that can be done, I don't even know where to start. But, I'm going to pay more attention to new things that appear here on the forum, and transfer them to the Wiki (whichever is minimally useful, of course).

For the past ~8 years I've mostly been ignoring the wiki, and I would tell people who contacted me about wiki stuff to talk to one of the other wiki admins. But now all of the wiki admins have gone almost entirely inactive. So I plan to pick up the slack and be a little more active as a wiki bureaucrat for the next couple of years, until hopefully some other good bureaucrats can be found and I can start ignoring it again.

I could add more Permittors, if any veterans here want to do it.

I'd be happy to volunteer. Not sure how the whole process of permitting works though.

The IRC channels are not that active, but I wouldn't call them dead IMO.

I edited it, though actually I didn't really change the content that much:

I left in the link to this board. I'll try to check from time to time to see if there are any whitelisting requests. Though I don't want to grant any of the recent requests in the old thread because they look to me highly likely to be people who just want to add spammy links to their services. I added to the page that you should explain what edits you want to actually make.

Also, we may in the near future try changing the whole way this works: Anyone will be able to "edit" pages, but these edits will actually be held-back pending review by a moderator. So you won't need to seek out preemptive approval. But it's possible that moderator bandwidth will not be high enough to deal with the volume of automated spam, so maybe this actually won't work out.

Theymos is one of the admins, but I don't think he is that active over there

I'm not sure who's controlling that wiki site but as far as I know it's part of Bitcointalk and there's chance that either Theymos or Cyrus might have the privileges to edit that page. They're the admins of the forum and there's chance that they might be able to edit the wiki as well.

Luke-jr would be our best shot, but he isn't active here anymore. Maybe I will try getting another way of contacting him regarding this, provided he allows redirecting the requests to the newer threads. I will update about the progress.

@NotATether and @joker_josue, Do you guys have edited privileges to this page ----> https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_Wiki:Editing_privileges?
It requires some correction and modifications.

Most people still follow the procedure and post in the old thread that no longer serves the purposes. Also, free node is no more, though Luke-jr kept insisting.

I can't edit that page, it looks like only wiki admins can change it.

There is also a bitcoin wiki board
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=168.0

There is a topic "Request edit privileges here  ", but it looks abandoned
I requested permission to edit long ago and I was ignored..

Based on its "revision history", Taras is/was probably the one who's responsible for updating it, but it seems that's no longer the case... Out of the other three contributors, only Luke-jr is still contributing stuff, so the following route that you mentioned earlier is probably also the best way of getting his attention:

I mean this page: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_Wiki:Editing_privileges

It contains an instruction that is now obsolete. It directs users to post the wiki usernames in this thread which is no longer useful.
Suggestion: Edit the instructions and refer users to the newer threads like this or this (NotATether and joker_josue are currently very active in the forum, they could be of much help to those newbies) and also lock the old editing privilege request thread.
