This wallet?

It's for EOS and also the first time I've heard it. Why people keep using these unpopular wallets and risking their funds? use only the wallets that are verified and trusted by your network or the coin that you're using.

That should be it. Tried using, it says free EOS wallet so I tried but you have to pay 0.5 EOS. Not free at all.

The wallet is acknowledge by Newdex.io though which is somewhat a good thing but I didn't get to know how to buy CPU, NET and RAM from the wallet. They give away free CPU, EOS and RAM but too little to let you trade.

Last time when I used the EOS wallet on Wombat it was free to use without the private key and we can use that account for the dapps supported by the Wombat wallet where most of the frequently used dapps are listed.

If you want access to your private keys then you have to pay the cost to upgrade to some premium account for accessing the key then you will have full control of your EOS account.

Regarding the topic of this thread, they are legit as far as I know but I have used it long before say more than 6 months ago.

If you are a frequent user of the EOS chain then I would recommend having an EOS account with full access by paying for it or creating using others. You don't have to pay for RAM all the time only buy some if you don't have any RAM available. Staking some for CPU and NET is a must for transactions but if you have your own account then there are other ways to avail free transactions every day without paying for CPU and NET.

You could use REX for CPU and NET loans but it should be fine if you spend 0.1 EOS for CPU and 0.01 EOS for NET for making few transactions at the current rate

I didn't get to know how to buy CPU, NET and RAM from the wallet. They give away free CPU, EOS and RAM but too little to let you trade.

You can borrow CPU/Net/Ram by using the Rex option from Bloks.io. In the time of writing this, anyone can borrow 6,329.2920 EOS for 30 days by spending only 1 EOS. But it's only can be used for the Dapps , not for the airdrops of eidos who was clogging Eos to make transections. . This is one kind of renting EOS for CPU/Net/RAM .

Thanks I will try that soon. I'm planning to try some dapps on EOS but will not use my main scatter wallet for safety. I'm going to try investing some token like BG in newdex it seems like the token is huge on this exchange.

I'm not aware of the clogging issues due to the discontent to the BP. Do they mean they can use EIDOS instead of getting CPU by staking EOS?

EOS wallets are bad news but I haven't tried out wombat wallet though, If it's true that one can easily buy CPU and RAM from Bloks.io then it will be great because many are facing such problem

Wombat, I chose to use the EOS mobile wallet because it is free, unlike others who charge before you have your own address. I've used it before since I played Crypto Sword & Magic. So far, I didn't find it as strange as the OP's scam says, maybe because it's been a while since I've been using it again.
As far as I know, this wombat is legit and trusted.

I still don't understand it. There are other EOS wallets that they can use and if they have a record of it, they should have to dig some information from their databases just to verify if the address is coming from that wombat wallet.

Same as with bitcoin addresses, there's no indication what wallet you have used for those addresses unless someone actually knows where that wallet address came from.
First of all, don't mixed EOS and BITCOIN with each others. Bitcoin is a proof of work (POW) based blockchain where miners confirm blocks and get their reward for that. But EOS is a proof of stake (POS) based type blockchain where no needs mining hardware to run the eos blockchain. Only you need some CPU and NET which you can get by locking your EOS. That's the main things in EOS blockchain. Also there are some block producers who help to broadcast the transection to the EOS blockchain. Take a look into the attach words.
Quote
All transactions triggered by the users are broadcasted to the EOS blockchain and are than processed by the Block Producers. To make sure no-one is spamming the network with transactions users have to “stake” (or lock) EOS to prove . The more EOS someone stakes, the more CPU time is allocated to the respective user

So, you have to use any block producers server to make sure that your transection are broadcast to the network without any problem. In this point, all the well known wallet make their own block produceing account to help the wallet users ( i want to mention you that meetone wallet are now in the top 6 positon for producing blocks). You get all the links of top block producers in here. Now it's easy to track by the public address which block producer you are using to play dapps. In any compition , eos usernames are used to show who are in the top place. So it's easy for anyone to track by using their public username or address. Besides, Wombat provide free CPU/NET to their wallet users to play dapp without any problems. Check out this post.  Maybe this can be the way to watch anyone in the eos blockchain Grin Grin

Okay, so that's why there are people who chose to use that wallet even if they don't want to. So, they can be eligible for those giveaways and it will be received through that wallet.

But how will the giveaway maker will know if the participant is using the wombat wallet? I don't have depth knowledge about EOS wallets like this and looks like you're pretty much knowledgeable in it.

that was easy mate . they have a record for those who uses thier wallet but still this wallet is kinda bit new to me i guess  .

not worth the risk tho to earn such giveaways  but id rather stick on more trusted wallets  and i can still earn something if i only hodl alone my cryptos   .  like you , i dont also use eos or eos wallets but i heard eos was a good project . many people have eos and are finding way to get the most out of it so prolly they are trying stuffs even if its already risky

Why people keep using these unpopular wallets and risking their funds?
It's partnered with some eos dapp , also make some giveaways and there was some rules to use their wallets or users will get extra points by usign wombat. That's the reason of using their wallet. Besides, wombat may be have own marketing plans.

In my opinion, i usually prefer to use Tokenpocket or novawallet or lynx wallet for mobile and scatter in windows or mac on other os.

It might be happened to those who are using rooted moblile because every eos wallet warns users not to use rooted mobile phones. As there will be more chances for hackers to crack users private key. That's can be the most effective reasons if team members are doing their jobs. But it's suspicious that wombat doing this because they partnered with the most played and top rated dapps. If there is any suspicious thing, then users should take their actions.

Any links? The name looks unfamiliar to me.

If you not sure about the wallet's legitimacy then don't think about using it until you know they are legit but you have lot other options to choose from to store different coins.

Recently I am hearing lots of spectulation about Wombat wallet.
Personally, it's the first time I hear about this service

Its behaving like scam or stoling users data & funds. I visited their telegram & asked to the admin. He said everything is fine, we are not scamming anyone. What is the real truth behind this?

If I was scamming people and someone asked if I was scamming, I would say that I'm not scamming, it's pretty obvious....

If you have seen some red flags on the service, you should be the one getting away from it. I've done a quick search, and it looks like it's an EOS mobile wallet; if you don't trust it, don't use it (I know I'm repeating myself, but that's pretty much the only advice I can give you).

You can store your EOS in a ledger HW, and I'm not sure if MEW supports this token.
