I think the typical user is a male late 20's to late 40s.

The non typical user is someone who is not using technology, (usually) older people.  I know I would have a hard time convincing my grandma to use Bitcoin, she doesn't have a computer, no smart phone, no tablet no internet.  No way she is going to be on Bitcoin ever.

There are younger users, that's for sure. Wink

I use bitcoins on a weekly basis to buy stuff, but most of my coins are kept in a stash. The typical users, however, are people looking into bitcoin as an investment vehicle and a store of value since there are not much places to spend bitcoins to.

Unlike fiat money, bitcoin seldom needs to be used, it is a value certificate similar to your bank long term saving account, you might only touch it several years later. Or, you can use it to do international trade with much faster payment time (given that you and your business partner in another country have already established a stable business relationship), but the required skill set is too high for average Joe

there are plenty of payment processors, credit cards and so on. why would you need Bitcoin to make a payment?
as you said, Bitcoin is not for the average "Joe" so it is a niche market and it will remain like this. Smiley

and why does it matter?

Because if you don't figure out why people don't want to use Bitcoin - you'll never get over that hurdle and you put the whole notion of societal adoption at risk. You don't need every single person to accept it as a currency - just enough for merchants to accept it on the same level as fiat.

Who really uses bitcoin? and for you Who is the typical bitcoin user?
Who doesn't use it? and why does it matter?

As far as I can see in my environment, the real users are those that use it as an investment / way to earn money. But as some other say, many of these people will use it to buy things if there were more shops and services offered.

The typical bitcoin user (again, from my limited perspective) is someone who invest on it. Either buying some from his wage and holding, or earning it online and investing /holding it.

Most people don't use it because they do not know about it. A few others, think it is risky. And other still find it too complicated to use at the moment (buying bitcoin with currency to use it, then not having much options to spend it).

It will take one decade (or maybe less) until we see the average joes out here doing payments regularly on Bticoin. They need to see benefits for them to drop Paypal or whatever they are using, otherwise they will continue using whatever it's out there already.

Who really uses bitcoin? and for you Who is the typical bitcoin user?
Who doesn't use it? and why does it matter?
- I do really use bitcoins, for spending, money transfering , gambling and investing purposes! And of course everyone on this forum uses bitcoin Cheesy
- For me, the typical bitcoin users were geeks but right now I will also include those non-geeks who wants to earn online (that's me)
- Computer illiterate people don't use it ; people who don't have any idea and don't care what bitcoin is (obviously Cheesy )
- It matters because they were getting out dated, they are missing a great technology that everyone should know Wink

Who really uses bitcoin?

Im one of it. I used bitcoins for some real life spendings when my budget is short. Recently I pay our electricity bill with my bitcoins because I will spend my salary in my upcoming out of town.

Who doesn't use it?

Of course the people who doesn't know bitcoin and those people that preferred fiat over bitcoin.

why does it matter?

There's no questions in why. So be it if people doesn't use it or not. Eventually all will came in one place.

drug dealers mostly.

everyone here seems to forget that lots of shady drug dealers acquired tons of bitcoin way before anybody else thanks to dark markets.

right. the black market(including HYIPs, cloud mining, etc) +gambling has over 85% from BTC market. The rest of them are speculative traders and people who earning pennies(they are paid to surf, etc) from their online activities.

Why would you use Bitcoin for online shopping? You already have debit cards/credit cards with zero fees and no risk.

There are certainly a lot of casino users that actively use bitcoin at the moment.

Exactly who ever into the gambling and some hidden activities they are using more as of now and that's why bitcoin will not disappear faster until some other better coins come in for these purposes. And also because of these kind usage bitcoins are not going easily to mainstream. Simple answer to your question is as of now bitcoins are using for mostly illegal deals or to avoid taxes or hide their transaction details.

Who really uses bitcoin?
All peiole who has bitcoin to hold and spend. They will more likely use it so those are people who does.

Who is the typical bitcoin user?
Someone who uses bitcoin in a daily basis. They earn and spend them. Those are.

Who doesn't use it? and why does it matter?
Obviously those people who don't have any idea what bitcoin is, they don't use it and more likely will never use it not until they have a glimpse of what bitcoins is. It matters because bitcoin needs to be popularize more to everyone. Every person who will be in the bitcoin community is a big major leap on the ongoing grow of our very own bitcoin

anybody who understand it, will start to use it immediately, or at least getting involved.

Who is the typical bitcoin user?

this question can be answered by the first answer Tongue

Who doesn't use it?

from my point of view, there is only two possible answers to this question:
  • anybody who didnt know/understand/beleive it
  • anybody with dark interests lol

and why does it matter?

let them not getting involved during the next two years, that why i can get more bitcoins cheaper Tongue

Bitcoiners are usually those who are interested in freelance jobs, who want to trade in bitcoins and those who want to sell their stuff for bitcoins. Some are those who are interested in just learning about virtual currency and they mainly mine bitcoins. or me, I use bitcoins as another payment option except PayPal or Payza as many were using this currency instead of PP which can be chargedback easily while bitcoins cannot be chargedback.

Who really uses bitcoin? and for you Who is the typical bitcoin user?

i think mostly young people who are interested in this new technology are using bitcoin. the rest who own bitcoin are the ones that are trying to make money and i don't consider them as using bitcoin, they are just traders and are in it for the money.

Quote
Who doesn't use it? and why does it matter?

older generation and practically people who don't want to get into trying new stuff even if it is better.

this needs to change and bitcoin should be used by everybody not just a group of people if it is to grow big and become mass adopted and replace fiat as we know it.
