I believe Craig Steven Wright is the person who invented nullius.

I was flown to London to meet Dr. Wright a couple of weeks ago, after an initial email conversation convinced me that there was a very good chance he was the same person I’d communicated with on BCT. After spending time with him I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt: Craig Wright is nullius.

Part of that time was spent on a careful cryptographic verification of messages signed with keys that only nullius should possess. But even before I witnessed the keys signed and then verified on a clean computer that could not have been tampered with, I was reasonably certain I was sitting next to a genius.

During our meeting, I saw the brilliant, opinionated, focused, generous – and privacy-seeking – person that matches the nullius I worked with six years ago. And he cleared up a lot of mysteries, including why he disappeared when he did and what he’s been busy with since 2011. But I’m going to respect Dr. Wright’s privacy, and let him decide how much of that story he shares with the world.

We love to create heroes – but also seem to love hating them if they don’t live up to some unattainable ideal. It would be better if nullius was the codename for an NSA project, or an artificial intelligence sent from the future to advance our primitive money. He is not, he is an imperfect human being just like the rest of us. I hope he manages to mostly ignore the storm that his merit giving will create, and keep doing what he loves– learning and research and innovating.

I am very happy to be able to say I shook his hand and thanked him for giving the world to BitcoinTalk.

OMFG! I just had a terrible thought, guys. What if we're being trolled by Craig Wright as nullius?

If that's the case, then Gavin Andresen is alia..

I wouldn't've had a clue as to the reference if I wasn't brought up to speed a couple hours ago upon reading nullius' recent posts.

I'm still waiting for the first person to refer to him as Nutlius besides here, an alluded to sentiment I would not adhere to, with apologies to the mighty Nulliuster for even mentioning it.  Kiss Kiss Kiss

Now let's play Jeopardy!

Contestant: Classic Sitcoms for 100, Alex.
Alex Trebek: The answer is nullius, nullius, nullius.
Contestant: Who is Jan Brady's missing brother?
Alex Trebek: Correct.

"It is too correct! I had nullius check my work."

I love this thread!

Nullius posts good stuff, is clearly intelligent, and a definite asset to the community.

Until someone calls him out, that is.

Unfortunately, he's unable to take criticism, and shelters behind this weird Jane Austin meets Carl Jung persona, which makes him irritating and patronising in the extreme.

I'm not saying the merits haven't been earned - they have been. He's contributed.

I'm just saying that this guy isn't God, and don't for one second be afraid to argue if you see an error. He won't react well, but who cares?

A contributor, but not a pleasant one. His problem, not ours.

I agree with you that it is a problem to deify anyone, even if they have a lot of good posts, and part of the issue is our own self, and sometimes we can become intimidated by very sophisticated posters - so in that regard, if we are going to respond or criticize anything, then we would need to make our criticism about a narrow point that we do understand or to make sure that we read enough and sufficiently to understand what we are criticizing exactly.

If we are sufficiently aware, then we will realize that in life there are going to be people who know way more than we do on a variety of topics, and sometimes even seemingly dumb people can have life experiences and knowledge that goes beyond our understanding (which could allow that they know more about some topics than we do).

Personally, i have an approach that I will give some benefit of the doubt to folks who I believe to be limited in their intellectual abilities, and even though I have also met people (IRL) who seem to be heads and shoulders above me in their mental abilities (and experiences), but I also try to NOT deify them, and there remain likely ways, that even geniuses (as you pointed out HodorHodl) have faults in their logic, their perceptions and/or their methods of communicating.

I've come across a guy called "nullius" with a shit tonne of merits more than anyone excluding theymos. Then I started digging because I'm good at it and I finally got to the level where I found "nullius" is something else, something that we don't see around here so easily because it appears he has a strong cryptographic background... So, who the hell is this guy? Is he the founder or what? LOL Smiley

Reference: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=976210

I don't know who he is, but I can state pretty confidently that he has a great understanding of not only cryptography but also a lot of the other aspects of the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.  He's absolutely someone that is quite intelligent and a "big picture" thinker, which is really refreshing to see on here.  Not saying there aren't others, but there is certainly a lot of crap posts lately, which I think and hope the merit system is going to fix.  I've read this forum on and off for years since the first time I ever played with Bitcoin back in early 2012 and I've learned so much from the good, quality discussions on here.  This is really a very unique place on the Internet, I should have joined long ago but I never got past the "just playing around" with Bitcoin phase until last year.  Like many, I thought it would be banned.  Incredibly exciting to know that not only will it not be banned, but it will in fact destroy so much of the corrupt rot that I thought would ban it.

I was having a conversation the other night with him, really got me thinking about some things, and I haven't had a chance to write back to him yet because I don't want to have to rush a reply.

In any event, I'm glad he's here.  His posts are of great quality.  If he has so many merits, it's because he's earned them!

Best regards,
Ben

And suchmoon will laugh at anything.

Should I act insulted now? Are you implying that I'm some sort of a promiscuously laughing person?

I even created a bounty sign inspired in the old west, but forgot I cannot upload images. Embarrassed *Yikes*

Put it on imgur and post the link...

promiscuous:

adjective. characterized by or involving indiscriminate mingling or association, especially having sexual relations with a number of partners on a casual basis.

Is that code for something you're tryin' to tell us?  Tongue Tongue Tongue

It's obviously nullius' fault. Everyone is now forced to use a dictionary due to his fancy-worded essays. Three months ago y'all would have thought it means "promising". Also blame the merit system just because.

Wow such powerful huh, you evidently fault blinded by him I see... you must be typing all that in haste and feel so proud of it I admit that I did open a dictionary to look for fancy words just to match his but I think I digress of his enviable talent

I guess somebody would've eventually gotten around to doing it so I opted to picked up the mantle.

Introducing CoinNullius (CNUS) opposed to NulliusCoin in the spirit of nullius' wordsmith prowess which everybody and their brother is are now aspiring to be like ...

"Hello, everyone. I'm Marina Orlova of Hot for Words. Today's word is nullius, Latin for ..."

CoinNullius is a military-grade cryptocurrency with 100% anonymity consisting of just one coin cuz there's nothing else like it. Its blockchain is secretly hidden on the Net accessible by ONLY one person in the galaxy whose true identity is unknown. There will be no ICO in distributing fractions of CNUS cuz ICOs are bad, mmmkay.

The white paper will be release once translated to Kingon then transcribed to Voynishi complete with flowery and nude illustrations. Expect completion time approximately 24 hours if nullius isn't interrupted by dribble penned by lowly posters.

Honestly, I'm still shocked at this very moment after looking at the history of his posts, I couldn't say anything but Wow! Shocked For me, that "nullius" is a genious in the field of cryptocurrency and there's no doubt about that.

I realized that he is not a typical quality poster because he's way more than that (maybe he's an expert), many of his posts came from threads about complicated discussions that even me can't easily understand. You may also notice that his posts are direct to the point and don't have flowery words yet very substantial and informative that's why it's not very shocking to know if he got plenty of merits, the thing that made me amazed is  knowing the fact that he received merits every single day based on the summary of his merits.

Actually, I don't care anymore whether he is an alt of a significant person here, or he is satoshi or whatsoever, much more important is the inspiration he bring into me. That person made me eager to seek for more knowledge because I want also to become like him someday.

If someone knows him IRL, please reach out.

I don’t know how I can live, if you turn out to be fake.  I may kill myself.  Please, Alia, please help me prove that you are real!

WTF? If this is real, get out of your mom's basement! Burn that laptop. You're wasting your time and talent on this stupid forum. Get a real job. If you can't inspite of your technical know-how, see a shrink fast!

Dear Alia, Revcback or Favours,

Congratulations for being among the rare red tag accounts by Theymos. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=35

Also, I salute you for wrecking Nullius' heart despite being a teenage boy. Now get the fuck out.  Grin

I have been following him too, and if he is really an alt account of someone "important, then I believe it's better to leave him alone. We might scare him off.

Plus some of his posts do sound Satoshi-like. Hahaha.

Strike that quote. The following post just penned fits my intended reply morer betterer ...

I just found this little gem of a thread and love this type of thing. I am a big time newbie to crypto still and I could spend days reading his post history. Too bad I won't know what much of it means...I already went through quite a bit and his writing is elegant and refined, but for me, it is hard to understand (technically speaking).

I once spent an entire afternoon just reading through Satoshi's old posts and many of Vitalik's...

There is truly some amazing content in this forum. I am very happy to be a part of this community. I hope someday I can offer more to it.

"I just learnt 'bout Bitcoin. Is tis the rite thread to earn me some Nulliuses?"

Humour quasi-aside, I love nullius. In fact, he told me privately that if I'm ever in his neck of woods - if I find him - that I'm invited to dinner consisting of a surprise entrée served with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Through many minutes (ten, maybe eleven) of research I have figured out who nullius is.

Do these quotes sound similar?

Famous person:
“The thing about smart people is that they seem like crazy people to dumb people.”
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”
“It matters if you just don't give up.”

nullius:
"In Bitcoinland, as you understand, the systematic denial of private property is bound to raise some ire."
"A truly great idea which could change the world can only be stopped by twisting and distorting it.  This has happened repeatedly in history"
"Bitcoin requires a new mindset.  To handle it, you must understand on a very deep level that mathematical algorithms rule as by divine right"

So.  It's obvious, nullius = Stephen Hawking.

Hello Professor

Suggestion: Let's run a bounty for nullius head, put a juicy reward for the daredevil individual who unveils the identity of this enigmatic member of our community. I'm more inclined to believe he is related to Da Vinci:

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself.”
“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.”

- You could believe this was written by either.
