Definitely is bound to happen. There are already places like Japan that utilize robots in these types of settings. There are already robotic arms in SF serving coffee but my next question would be how would a robot check someone's ID and make a unique request of a cocktail.

I had to double check the date because this thread reads like its 10 years old or more.  These things are already around and I have one.  The ones replacing baristas have been around at least 20-30 years usually found in hospitals or breakrooms.  Its the same technology but using alcohol has its legal issues so those are more rare.

They won't replace all baristas and bartenders because people will always want that person to person connection.

BTW theres also automated restaurants, cars, and trucks.  Hell I entered Singapore or Australia, went through customs, and boarded a train without ever seeing a person working at the airport.  Almost everything can already be replaced by robots today and I am always surprised when people act like its something that COULD happen decades down the road.  Automation is here and happening now and its great.  Its progress.  Thats why we need to be rethinking society and implementing UBI asap to avoid catastrophe.

If we take in to consideration what boston dynamics is achieving on daily basis , I have no doubt that robot-bartenders will be reality soon.
It would give several advantages over regular bartenders - faster, they would mix drinks precisely which could mean good quality and also they would not spill and cause negative impact on the establishments finances.

I will then not go to a certain bar that only have A.I Bartender, what you will personal loved about having a drink with a "real" bartender is that you can request some drinks combinations plus you can talk to them about your problems or anything that you just want to share about your life in which a certain A.I won't be able to understand.

This is a good invention tho,

Have you ever thought that in the near future your drinks may be served by a topless beautiful hostess serving as empowered bartending unit? ....
I wonder how you think about this?
....

I can't wait for that to happen. For now I'll just order the sasha gray doll on amazon.

Not sure why but I think such an AI-bartendress would be totally cool. Not so certain about sexbots.

As far as I know, there is a bot in a certain country that serves an omelet. At first, I was intrigued by how it does it but there is no problem with it. People are interested and I think some of them visits the hotel because of it, this is the link to the BOt that I am talking about.

Technology developing beyond our imagination,we know that we are operating a rovor in Mars from here so it won't take too long for the inventions of working robots to every industry but if that happens then it will cause huge unemployment throughout the world.

There's nothing wrong with robot servers and I'm not just talking about bars but restaurants and stores in general. Sometimes when I see those tired people who look like they hate their jobs I feel like they could use a break and at the very least have a robot helper.
Cons? Probably lack of human contact which can be both good and bad. If the contact is unpleasant for you you might feel better being served by a robot, but sometimes bartenders and servers are so nice that they make the meal even better.

Why not! I do believe that is possible and why I can not accept it?
People nowadays are so smart they can develop technologies that possible looks like an human who can work also like a human.
Robot is control by human they do program the robot to work like as human.
so accept that it is possible someday robot can serve you drinks where ever you are.

What do you mean by near future? 5, 50 or 100 years?
May be in 100 years robots can be bartenders, but not in the near future. May be there will be one prototype developed, but not mass production. It’s quite expensive. And I doubt we would have so much money to buy there a drink😀

A robot can come with motion and face detector sensors as well as a breathanalyzer. I think it's possible that a robot would be better at detecting intoxication and checking the actual level. There's also no arguing with a robot, you can't guilt, shame or threaten it into giving you another shot.

That said, some people do go out for a drink looking for companionship and the impersonal interaction with the robot might just make them even more depressed.
Bartenders cost next to nothing in terms of payroll ($2.13/hour) and in general the more they sell, the higher their pay will be in terms of tips received. They have incentives to sell as much alcohol as they can without selling to a drunk person. They can take social cues that can help them sell more.

Well depends on the country. I can see this in Japan provided the machines become cheap enough. Watched somewhere that on reason for the prevalence of vending machines there is because labor is not cheap.

Japanese men need all the relaxed human contact they can get though.  Embarrassed

Its possible but then you have to look at Costa Rica, a country which prides itself on its tourism/hospitality/service industry and the attention to detail they give it, everyone who goes there loves the service because the staff is so great. A robot AI may be efficient but if you have to choose between that and a friendly and charismatic bartender... i think I know who will make the most tips  Grin

If they serve drinks with a robot in Costa Rica then this will be bad for their economy and tourism.
Maybe it is a point where technology does bad, because they do not increase "productivity" . Grin

If you are worried about your drinks being served by a robot then you are in for a rude shock. There are things far more complicated and complex that are being carried out in the Machine Learning and Intelligence space. Bartending can obviously be automated but then it is not a profession where emotional and cognitive skills are required. The frontier that is being researched upon is the ability of the machines to learn and enhance their understanding of the world which would give them a decision making ability based on their own experiences. Now that is scary!!!

I read in an article that a cruise ship with a robot(bionic arm) that serves alcohol to the guests.
if they were able to make a robot bartender I think I the cost for it to be made is too high and I doubt
bar owners would even consider robot bartender as a robot. although, I agree that we may get a drink from
a robot but I doubt it'll be on a pub.

I am alive but in hibernation.
Not everybody goes to bar to talk with bartender. I feel robot bars will be successful in sport bars where you go with friends to enjoy the match and drinks. Punching some number for getting your drink look to me a good choice.
