I use a custom trust depth. I don't trust some members so I just leave it on trust depth 2. It works best for me.

i left it as default, after trying it at depth level 1, but i don't like this whole thing about default trusted members, trust should be acquire with other users not like this

But at the beginning before you know anyone who would you trust? it would be like ignoring all the ratings

i would trust no one anyway, trust rate doesn't mean that user is 100% safe, maybe you don't know but there was a member called Tradefortress(that was also in the default trust) and had many green +1 and was trusted by many..

this user was running a site for loans, in the end he scammed everyone, he used the most dangerous strategy to do this, by acquiring users confidence for a long time

I didn't know but of course I know nothing is 100% safe however an user with green trust is far less likely to scam than someone with red trust, so until I'm here for more time and realize who to trust I like the default list

I think TF got negative trust because of his online wallet service.

Recent best example for this is freidcat. He scammed AMHash and he still has a big green trust.

This trust system isn't 100% secure. You must do your own due diligence. Don't trust a person just because green trust. Look at his feedback and reference case by case. However, you can get a basic idea with this trust system and it helps.

yeah i know that, but before doing this, he earned the trust of many people, thus making them confident to deposit on his site

it was a diabolic plan since the beginning, TradeFortress is a perfect example, of how you should not trust anyone

I'm doubting between using depth 2 or depth 3 so more feedback are shown by default, it'd be nice to give more weight to lower depths like x1.5 to level 1, x1 to level 2 and x0.75 to level 3

If I can say my opinion, I am using the normal/standard defaultTrust list withe a  depth level "2". I'm fine with my choice, and I believe in that list.

I use custom trust list with trust depth 1. I use trust depth 1 because most users in default trust list trust depth 1 will be in trust depth 0 for me and people in default trust list trust depth 2 in trust depth 1. A depth is bumped up.

=snip=

If someone use custom trust depth, I think some of them choosing someone inaccurately

People in a custom trust list is the people who he trust. We can't say a person to add/remove people according to our need but it can be done if a person in default trust list add a scammer or a person who abuse trust system.

If you don't want to trust a person who is in trust list of a person you trust, you can add tilde(~) in front of the username and click "update".

For example: You trust Bob and you added him to your trust list but you don't trust Alice who is in Bob's trust list. So you can remove Alice by adding "Alice" to your trust list with tilde as prefix and click update.

Code:
~Alice

Now your trust list will be

Code:
DefaultTrust
Bob
~Alice

I've never dipped into the trust system and well and truly can't figure out how it's supposed to work. It all counts for nothing anyway as soon as someone has a funny turn or cashes in the long game they've been playing.

I'd just use the most established escrows and go on how the person who I'm thinking of trusting has acted in the past.

Since I trust someone on default so I don't change anything. The second reason is trust system is way to complicated  Grin

I personally just use default.  It seems to work fine for me.

Only time I go further is if I'm dealing with someone on forum I will manually check all trust.   Other then doing a deal default settings work fine for my uses.

I'm curious to know who (especially among Newbies, Jr. and Members) uses a custom "Trust depth". For those wondering it can be changed here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust and the default is '2'. Vote.
