Within the next two decades scientists will develop cures for most ailments.   At first, immortality will be for the ultra-rich, but as prices go down (as long as the population stays in check), it will become available to the masses.

Agreed! Live 4 more decades and you will probably live more than 100 years for sure!

The question is, would you want to live in a world where 90% of your taxes go to old age pension?

Depends on what kinds of benefits will I be getting when I will be in their shoes. What goes around comes around Wink

I’m a fan on how to prolong life. I want to live forever, but I know my body cannot, only my name will.

Your profile name leads me to believe you are in your 20s?

Not only do many of the super-rich want immortality, but a good number of them are doing something about it.

Yes, that’s what I said before:

Nowadays wealthy people are spending their money in science projects because they fear dying as well.

Hundreds of years ago, the only thing wealthy people could to was to prey and give donations to Church, but nowadays they are spending their money to at least lengthen life, and at most to achieve immortality.

I find this a very interesting topic, I learned about it listening to Jose Luis Cordeiro, who talks about “the death of death”. He also talks about Cryogenics and transferring your brain.

Life lenghtening and immortality would bring other problem, like how we feed all those people, the ones that don’t die and the others that are born. But the optimistic scientists like Cordeiro believe that Science and Technology will solve these problems.

your last statement seems to have some element of truth but I would like to to know that in every technological or scientific breakthrough the point is not the adverse effect of the breakthrough but rather the level it will advance human society so I believe life extension will create new problems but it will propel human society to new unexplored areas

Weirdly enough, in the late 90s I was a member of an Extropian (life extension) forum that was run and/or hosted by Wei Dai. Some of my earliest references on the internet are there, but I was in my teens at the time so its too embarrassing to go back and look at what I actually wrote.

Probably the most interesting thing about me is that I became a Neuroscience major because I wanted to invent a computer program that would allow you to upload your consciousness to a hard drive before you died, thus allowing you to "live forever." However, after I was done with my first core Neuroscience class (you don't even get there until your 3rd year), I realized this is presently impossible and we're still far, far away from ever doing such.

My current take is you're better off keeping your brain alive inside a jar, and hooking said jar up to some sort of cyborg body, ala RoboCop.

I think lots of people dream of that, but what would happen if it was real. The world would face a problem of overpopulation, which already  exists in some countries.

Who wouldn't want to live longer and better. I believe aging is an inevitable fate,
I think as of the moment anti-aging products have made waves in the market
and are attracting a lot people. The rise of healthy food, supplements and living
is a clear indication that a lot of people around the world are constantly conscious
with aging and healthy living.

Aging is just an engineering problem. We are about to enter an epoch where many exponential technologies will reach maturity and converge.
Gene therapy, DNA manipulation.
AI medical intelligence.
Nanotechnology.
Stay alive for 40 years more and it's possible you'll survive a lot longer.
A LOT longer.

Spot on. I’m 32

I believe you can live forever physically. I dunno if you have heard about the Russian scientist who will attempt the 1st human head transplant. If he succeeds that will indirectly mean you have achieved 50% of the immortality. We have already perfected the art of cloning and cloning a human body won't be a difficult task. You can make a clone of yourself, preserve it's brain if you are ethical and transfer your original brain to the new body. The next hurdle ahead will be of the ageing brain. If I remember correctly, I saw a documentary in which they said that a brain can perform perfectly for around 150-200 years. That timeframe is enough for scientists to discover how to offload memories off from your brain, which will keep your brain healthy for another 100-200 years. Now about the issue of consciousness. I believe we will figure it out in the next 200-300 years. Once that is achieved the possibilities are endless.

An episode worth watching.

P.S forgive me if my numbers are off from the documentary, I watched it like 4-5 years ago. Cheesy

Anyone at any stage can take their health into their own hands. However, knowledge of health is not a natural endowment and must be sought after. The problem is that much of the information we find on the internet regarding health is usually written by “quacks.” In order to break from this theme, I have compiled a list of 5 ways to prolong your life with citations made available for each.

If by living forever means I cannot die no matter how much I want to then the answer is no. But if I could still die whenever I want to then that is something I want to achieve as well. It would be nice to see how the crypto world will grow and be there when a new, more advanced technology arrives. I would also like to be there when something like transhumanism becomes achievable, as well as space colonization. A long, healthy life for me is ideal because there are a lot of things I still want to do.

Everyone must have a desire to prolong life, not only to prolong life but also to use life for the benefit. It would be nice if we compensate between work and entertainment for our lives are not monotonous and more useful.

i would rather a shorter life of excellent health as opposed to long one in a wheelchair, diapers, gtube, oxygen tanks, dialysis etc.

work on fixing health problems 1st, prolong life second.

lol nice to see an exactly same thinking with me.

I used to watch the China film in which the King had been made the immortal drug successfully but he couldn't drink it because of out of time.
I love to be such a vampire too. So worry about food and things we eating today.... hope that scientists can make an immortal drug in near future.

I think science will one day find a way to significantly increase the average lifespan, although I think it's quite impossible to literally/physically live forever (based on what science can explain for now).

I've also read a similar research, where they kept a dog's head alive for a couple of hours after decapitation. If it isn't fake, then by all means, I believe we can somehow achieve immortality--in the very, very far future, however. Still, it's a possibility.

Personally, I want to prolong life, but not be actually immortal. I want my life and the lives of my loved ones to be extra long, but I wouldn't want to live forever. I believe it can get quite sad if I live out the rest of my family and friends. But if ALL of us were immortal, then the Earth will have to pay the price because the population will eternally increase and increase while resources will be depleted. Just my two cents sir!

I am sure that prolonging life is a dream of each person. The twentieth century was a key milestone in extending human life. I agree that hard work can gradually kill us. Therefore, it is very important to combine work with other areas of life, like family , friends, travel.

prolonging life would be merely OK.

now REVERSING some aspects of age would be the brass ring.

after all living for another 200 years in a 90 years old decrepit body is one thing, but 200 more years in a body with an  effective  age of 50 is even better.

but ill settle for either when  you get right down to it.

I’m a fan on how to prolong life. I want to live forever, but I know my body cannot, only my name will.  I always believe that someday science will find a way to prolong life and can stop aging (bitcoin did not excess, look at it now). I am doing so much in life, grinding night and day to live a life that I wanted, and thinking it will soon end is somewhat unsatisfying.

News: Scientists keep alive brains of decapitated pigs to prompt ethics debate:

A system developed by a Yale University team is leading to suggestions their work could be developed for humans.

A team at Yale University have experimented on up to 200 pigs' heads, taken from an abattoir roughly four hours after the animals' slaughter, by connecting them to a system called "BrainEx".

Using the system of pumps, heaters and bags of artificial blood, Prof Sestan described how billions of individual cells were found to be healthy and capable of normal activity after circulation was restored to the pigs' brains.

To have live cells and brain activity does not mean much, in fact the pigs brain is probably suffering horrendous pain as it is detached from it´s body, with no sensing stimuli and embedded in its own internal disorientation.

I suggest the same treatment for the doctor.

100,000BTC is a big amount if you converted in into money but the problem is are you happy in your life if you have immortality?

Happiness is a matter of perspective in life; we define our own happiness, and it is not just a feeling, but also a choice. I enjoy having more money and to become immortal; and other people do not enjoy having more money & being immortal. Happiness of one person may not be a happiness to another. These quality features of pleasure is what motivates some people to never give up and some people to give up in the diverse circumstances of life.

I'm sure they will find solutions by that time.

Is this the video: Jose Cordeiro - The Death of Death ?

If you have 100,000BTC, what will you do?
100,000BTC is a big amount if you converted in into money but the problem is are you happy in your life if you have immortality? Well maybe you can do things like no normal person can do but still its not enough, yes i want also to live forever but God has a reason and a path that we should follow. We only live ones and make useful to it enjoy every moment until your last breath a long with your special someone.
