A very simple reason, because people who try to scam are lazy people who don't want to work hard for their money. They try to skip the hard part of getting rich to short cut their way into it. They want to do what rich people do without the hard work part and because they are stupid and lazy they try to do this.

I think they are generally scammers with a potential low life trying to scam or steal money to better their life so they don't necessarily scam because of Bitcoin's potential or value but they steal for the same reasons why they'd steal a car, credit card, physical fiat etc on the street.

Why do people have to scam? Beacause they are lazy or incompetent. I feel that if you have to steal or scam, then you are a failure, and even worse, you have admitted to yourself that you are a failure.

Also because that is the only way that they know to earn money, big money. This people are the most pitiful in all kind of people in this world, because they are risking their names, families, dignity, and sometimes even their profession just for these thing. This people are those who wants shortcut to success, even though there is no shortcut to success. This people are those who only wants to do nothing at all, but they are earning bitcoin, and these type of people is the worst.
They could end up in jail if they scammed a big amount of money, or they scammed someone who is popular and have big name in this world, though they are not considering this things because the only thing that is important to them is that, they don't care about anything as long as they are earning money.

Because Bitcoin has ability to hide your identity. It is so easy to grab someone's bitcoin and run away. So people find an easy way to collect money, they open HYIP/PONZI with lucrative plans, scam people and run away. Unlike Paypal, you can't open dispute in case of btc!!

Is that your serious question? Have you just been scammed? I think the answer is not very hard to tell but sometime we should look at another way of thinking like, why do they have to scam? I mean, did they are scammed by another person and then they want to scam others to get back what they lost? Secondly, how about they have some problem with their business so maybe they are delay in trading and then you consider that he/she has scammed.
But the most suitable explanation for scammer is that a easiest way to earn money and don't have to trade anything else to other people. Of course, the biggest thing that they have lost was honor.
A big fraction of the people are simply... something I do not know if I'm allow to mention here.
And when it comes to online scams, that number increases.
It's always easier to scam somebody you do not know and do not see, than when you have to do it in person face to face.

Something tells me that recently you lost some coins to hyip ponzi schemes or you lent someone but your coins never returned; am I mistaken? The word 'why...' is it a philosophical question about the human nature? I can't find a better answer in your capital wording question. When something becomes valuable people make plans to earn in easy way. This in turn becomes plans to attract the users and soon this becomes a scam when the plan initiator gets the targeted number of bitcoins. These days scams are found much focusing the newbie. It's our responsibility to stay away from them.

To be honest, who wants to work in 2017? most jobs are underpaid, people is exploited, so I can understand that some people is desperate enough to go around trying to scam other people.
In any case, I don't justify it, but I understand it. Some people are stuck in McDonalds because they can't do anything else. They get desperate so they try to get money at all costs.

My reason for this is because of the Bitcoins anonymity. Since we are completely anonymous on using bitcoin, unless you have a personal information connected on your bitcointalk account, and so on. So, people are scamming each other here because of just like what I have said, being anonymous. The other thing is because this is the fastest way they could earn money, since they don't know on how to earn some and they are those people who don't know the word "Hard work" and "Effort".
Also the other reason for these is because they are making their revenge, I mean, they have been scammed, so the other way around, they will scam someone also, for them to be able to take back the money that someone have been scammed to them by scamming other people, and this is nonsense, because the Karma will just go back to you, bad Karma. It is like the scamming thingy is just cycling on those scammer people.

This is something that even surprises me why someone will derive joy in another person's misery. It happened to me when I was scammed so I can relate with that. But I guess the reason for that is the difference in our value orientation and what we all hold dearly. Everybody wants to have money and get rich but some people care less about the means only the end and that is why they care less about their names or reputation so far money is the end product of their action, everything else is secondary.

Scammers always look for opportunities to get your money or what has some serious financial value.

There are alot of factors why what so we called "scammers" scam for bitcoin.Most of the they just scam because they "think" that that is the easiest and short term of earning bitcoins without much effort inserted into it.There are some that scams because they badly need it.So many reasons why people scam.Also one is because of its trend and price right now
because they too lazy and want instant money without work hard i think this the cause why people always trying to scam people and scam also not dominated by bitcoin users because people also scamming use other currency
free and easy money with less work, cold-hearted people will do anything to get money easily even with scamming other people. and the target is people that want to earn money w/o do anything so they invest to scam site

Those trolling Bitcoin right now are no different: the only way they can convince people to unwittingly destroy Bitcoin is by using lies and distortions, not the truth.
They're failures too, they don't seem to understand that there is no honour among thieves: you need a profound lack of empathy to direct such a campaign, yet the trolls assume those they are collaborating with will be loyal to them. Trusting people with such a strong instinct to aggress against others is like walking a tightrope in a hurricane, there's no way for the Bitcoin trolls to know when they will be turned against too.
Scammers is a profession, this can happen in any business, especially bitcoin. They will not stop and will always create a new business account is similar to previous scam program. They get a lot of BTC on various types of investment program, Ponzi was their favorite. there are some scam programs in bitcointalk, such as embezzlement of funds in various shitcoin ICO.
The best way is currently only using escrow, participant much to learn from many scams before, now they are more careful to follow something.
