Just to confirm this only happens with newbie accounts right? I don't seem to have the problem

Newbies only get the 360 delay, but it decreases with the more activity you get. I think Full Members is ten seconds or something, but you're unlikely to notice it unless you can write another post in that amount of time.

Can confirm:

26 seconds for me. Only seen that message once though, while commenting quickly in one thread.

Account might be hacked?

Nah, just see my above post. He's just not waiting the full 360 seconds.
I don't think it refreshes when you try to post again, at least it doesn't for me. Can't remember how it was when I was a newbie though. However, you'll also get the delay when logging in.

It is actually a problem for users of certain countries whereby users have dynamic IPs.

Log-ins and attempted posts count and reset the clock. You need to wait the full six minutes after you log in or post.

An Error Has Occurred!
The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later.

Well another error has occured, this user is not going to waste their time on a forum like this, if you want to frustrate your users then this is the way to go, if you want the same users posting the same crap then this is the way to go.

Most people will see that and go "well screw that forum" and just go somewhere else (like I am).

It's a joke, if the moderators and site admin are so incompetent they cannot setup decent anti-spam measures then the forum cannot be worthwhile to be a member of.

Many forums manage without these stupid restrictions.

anyway enough said, enjoy your forum of 'old posters only'.

It's annoying but everybody had to deal with it, and if you were serious about posting here you would've just persevered and waited it out.

Honestly if you're not spamming I find it hard to believe you can't wait 6 minutes to post your useful, relevant and informative post. I mean really 6 minutes isn't even that big of a time delay - unless you have the incessesant desire to spam.

The limit is not high enough.
I agree, newbies should only have a few posts available per day, rather than just 6 minutes in-between them.

They should start with a 100 minute delay, every time they make a post it decreases by a minute.

Problem solved. Smiley
This is actually

quite brilliant.
Maybe a little harsh, but definitely on the right path.

There is to much spam even with that delay.
There's a thread in the meta about introducing newbie jail again. Go there and show your support. Cheesy

a 360 seconds is required to post between ones for ones with low status and post count. just wait for few weeks and it will be something between 30-60 seconds.

Do you really believe this does more good than harm? All it takes is a few months for a spammer to have 50 accounts that can post without restriction. This just makes newbies annoyed (I remember how annoying this was)

Would have to be a pretty persistent spammer.
Even if someone makes 50 accounts and spam, their posts get deleted and if it keeps happening they get banned. So there's not really a problem. The problem is if they could post straight away, so even if their accounts got banned they hadn't invested any time into it, and could just create a new one straight away, and start over.
