This is why you should only look for altcoins that have real products and project, afaik altcoins usually have to serve different purpose than btc, most of altcoins acts like stock where if the project gets popular it will increase in price as well, so to say, altcoin usually are fundamentally different than btc although some might have more or less the same purpose. I personally prefer to invest in altcoin with real product nowadays

The projects pointing out the cons of bitcoin and blockchain like high fees, energy consumption in mining, transaction time etc to attract people by solving these by their project.
You can invest by seeing that if the project got legit investment form established authenticated companies because when they invest in there have some legal deals. Though it's also not safe 100%.

ALGO, XLM, XRP and VET all have low transaction fees.
Even a token on the BSC has low fees (usually). $BYG is a token I am looking at. It has some series gains lately and actual utility in the Black Eye Galaxy NFT game coming out soon.

It's rampant because there are buyers and supporters and it's profitable for holders, honestly, with Bitcoin alone, I don't think it can promote Cryptocurrency adoption, the technology must move and developers are always offering new technology and algorithms in the Cryptocurrency industry so people from all industry can adopt Cryptocurrency and integrate it on their system.
