My question is what are the factors that make the United States the largest economy in the world?
What is certain is that America is the largest economic power in the world today because the first three factors are massive regional expansion, the second is the industrial revolution, and the third is the second world war. IMO, in the past the regions of Alta California, Baja California, Nuevo Mexico, Nuevo Leon, Texas were all Mexican territories as a result of independence from Spanish imperialism when Louisiana was bought by the US, conflicts arose around the territory of Texas until finally the Mexican war emerged 1846-1848 and the winner knows himself At that time the entire territory of Mexico was controlled by the US.

But then the US gave the territory of Mexico as it is now an independent country. The Kingdom of Hawaii was also controlled by the US for clichéd national security reasons, the breten woods agreement was the beginning of the establishment of the IMF and World Bank which of course was the main headquarters in the US. The Nixon era was the beginning of all trade in the world associated with the dollar and the SWIFT system was used throughout the world, until now 2 trillion dollars are circulating around the world. It's not wrong that the US economy is impossible to collapse and this is one of the reasons why the US is the largest economy in the world. Because this system is still being adopted even if a country carries out import and export transactions it has to pay in US dollars.

But US dominance is now slowly starting to fade after the emergence of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and SCO and even Saudi Arabia have joined in and there are many more countries that want to join the BRICS, the aim of releasing dollar dominance in world trade in terms of In the economic field, the SCO releases political, social, and military domination from the domination of the US and its allies.

In my opinion, the most influential factor was that the USA became the strongest economy because it won World War 1 and World War 2, when the Soviet Union cold war occurred at the end of 1990, the USA also won and made almost all opponents lose, this of course had a strong impact on the economy, and of course make the USA have high trust to regulate the world economy.

I suspect why the United States is strong in the economic field because of its dollar, so they can regulate a number of other sectors as a support influence, a country will look strong when their currency is the choice of many countries, both global trade agreements and other powers as capital for them. Many things can make America's economic power strong enough and its influence has now reached several countries in terms of global cooperation relations.

Of course there are other factors why they are so strong in the economy, but I think the dollar plays a big part in this. They control the defense sector and many products become superior to what they create, so that dependence on other countries can never be separated from them.

This is true because a currency of country play a very crucial job in a countries victory and also America is a developed country therefore its economy is better as compared to other countries.

I think that America is consider as a super power due to its creations and the power of atomic bomb it created. In United state there is almost every resource that should be given to its residents, also it helps its citizens by various technologies to establish as a better country so not just a currency but lots of others things are also there which make United state as a better country for the individuals.

....But I don't think they will be able to sustain that going forward with the rise of China....

What rise of China are you talking about?
About problems with the economy, which are still gaining momentum?
Or about the sanctions associated with high technology, on which China depends on the West and the United States in the first place?
Or maybe rise - is it about the totalization of power and the curtailment of freedoms, including economic ones?
After the change in the course of the CCP, I generally assume that it will be a move away from socialist-capitalism (which has developed in China over the past decades), to a totalitarian version of imperial ambitions.
Although I do not rule out that China will be able to "put on the yuan" some countries, and create a kind of regional "union" with the "capital" and administration in Beijing. But it won't be a "US competitor."

In my opinion, the thing that made America a giant and a leader in the world economy was because America had good human and natural resources. Another factor, of course, is that many American companies have expanded to almost all countries in the world, thus making America's economy stronger.

I have read most of the posts on this topic and I couldn't agree less that America is the biggest economy in the world today. And if they continue with their innovations, then Notting is stopping them in remaining in that position.

Another subtle way by which America, still remains the biggest economy in the world, is through advertisement. Even if you haven't been to America, you only need to watch American movies and you will see how they show off their military strength, their latest technology, vibrant economy and show you that you can not mistreat an American citizen anywhere in the world. So every body has trust and confidence to have business dealings America.

I think that every country has the potential to be like America. That is if they put the right people in the right place, to bring about speedy transformation. Unlike in third world countries, where they put square pegs in round holes.

Undeniably, the US is still the number 1 country in the world in many aspects, both economically and militarily. But I don't think they will be able to sustain that going forward with the rise of China. I really appreciate China's economic potential in recent decades, and I believe it is only a matter of time before it overtakes the US as the world's largest economy. But to usurp the United States as the number one power in the world will be very difficult because China's military comparison is still one level behind the US and Russia. But the future is always a surprise, let's see how long the US can be the No. 1 power.

The great advantage of the United States was that the people who came to create the United States had no "restricting factors" to implement their ideas. In the old world, there were many "rules" that severely limited the possibilities of people - from religious views and regional features, to their "caste" affiliation and origin. The United States gave everyone the opportunity to FREELY implement their plans, ideas, dreams. And yes, it turned out that in the right place, the right people, under the right conditions, gathered at the right time. And for several centuries the country has become what it is now! Smiley

Usually the size of the economies of different countries is considered to be in US dollars (nominal GDP). However, there are other methods of measurement, for example, if you measure the size of the economy in US dollars per capita, then the largest economy in the world is Luxembourg. And if you measure the size of the economy in purchasing power parity, then China is the largest economy in the world. However, this is not surprising given that China artificially undervalues the yuan, because it is beneficial for Chinese exports.

I specify:

GDP is the value of all goods and services produced solely for consumption. The gross product indicator reflects the “value” of the economy, and when compared over different periods, the nature of its dynamics.

GDP per capita is another indicator! This is a macroeconomic indicator, which is the ratio of the state's GDP (see the previous paragraph) to the average annual population.

GDP at purchasing power parity is another estimation mechanism, whose mathematical formula is as follows:
GDP \u003d DS + NPI - C
Where:
DS - added value,
NPI - tax on production and imports,
C - subsidies for imports and manufacturing.

These indicators are different and show the economy from different angles.

Regarding "deliberate and beneficial inflation" - I have big doubts ..
I agree that the "cheap" currency for the exporter is profitable.
But for a country that is highly dependent on Western technologies, which it is forced to buy, in this case, for EXPENSIVE currency, this is not very profitable.
Moreover, such a severe drawdown of the yuan, as it was in October 2022, was hardly "planned", because still unable to resolve the consequences of this problem

Each nation harbors its own enigmatic shadows, and the United States is no stranger to these murky depths. We could scrutinize the past, but the epoch was distinct, governed by disparate values and benchmarks. Yes, the US chronicles are intricate and often disconcerting, yet they unveil merely a fraction of the narrative.

America is an alchemical crucible of immigrants, merging cultures and notions that forged awe-inspiring feats in the annals of mankind. Lunar expeditions? Conquered. The World Wide Web? Manifested. Boundaries shattered, our nation has ignited the imaginations of generations globally.

Acknowledging our historical blemishes doesn't absolve us but offers a more holistic portrait of our nation and its denizens. As we advance, let us absorb the wisdom of bygone errors and unite in crafting a resplendent tomorrow for all.
With this - I absolutely agree with you!
1. We must not distort history, deny the deeds that have been done. Both bad and good. We must not lie, hide, and manipulate history. She is what she is. There are many unpleasant, and sometimes vile moments in it - but these are real events. They must not be forgotten and hidden - otherwise we will repeat these mistakes!
2. Yes, the US has become a world leader precisely because of the mixture of immigrants from different countries, cultures, and sciences. This is a kind of "mestizo" who absorbed the BEST of all the representatives of other countries, their knowledge, their desires, and implemented a completely new scheme for the structure of the state, the economy, giving people the opportunity to realize those plans and ideas that would never come true in their countries.
The idea of manifest destiny is the reason why it grew so much, because it wanted to grow, the core values of it is growing. Even up until very recently, it kept on growing, there is oil in Iraq? Let me take that. There is no stopping, there is no idle standing still, there is no boring period, in every single year of USA history, something is going on.

It had bad years, it had years where people said it was a terrible idea and USA shouldn't do that and we hated USA for doing it, but there were years when it did wonderful stuff with it as well. Just like back in Nazi period, it was a terrible period we all agree about Germany right? What they did was terrible, but we still drive volkswagen and take bayer medicine, all of which was done by Nazis at the time. Some bad, has long lasting good results in it, doesn't mean you have to like the bad thing, it is just what it is, can't change it.

The main reason is because America is a developed country which also has the most advanced technology in the world so that many global people come to America to become technological innovators.
Besides that, America is also the second home for business players on social media and in terms of the level of spending in technology, America exceeds other countries. and another reason why the USA is a country that has the world's largest economic progress is because America is one of the countries with the most competitive economy and America is in a period of revival of energy production
America is already the biggest economy in the world and it is because of there technology mindset and the way they are ready putting things together to have dominion over the rest countries with there technology.
The journey started many years before now and they are still ruling not to have any competitors like the Chinese and the Russians. The dump of US dollar is what is going to make the United States to have less impact in terms of power and economy diversity on the rest of the world.
America had been flexing there muscles and I hope they will reduce there sections on other countries that seems not to be there friends.

My question is what are the factors that make the United States the largest economy in the world?

We can hardly name all the reasons and it was a combination of reasons. But we of course can name some of well known. One of them is that USA less than others was harmed during world wars of XX century. Next is that their political and legal system is rather stable and predictable what is attractive for business. We can add that their currency is rather stable also and is actual for long enough to become a main currency in the world. And not the least it is a way american society grows: immigrants are usually adventurous, enterprising and active ones, because others prefer to stay where they live. So active people are immigrating in USA year by year making new business and participating in economy growth.

Of course it's not all, but I think it is an important part.

Of course, there are many opinions on this subject and they can all be correct in the sense that each person is talking about a valid point, and the truth can be all of these points combined.

In my opinion, the United States managed to become the largest economy in the world due to many important factors, but perhaps the most important of them are the many natural resources that were not previously exploited because the indigenous people were primitive.

The second factor is immigration. At the beginning of the discovery of America, Europeans who dreamed of obtaining wealth and free land began to migrate there. Of course, most of the immigrants were Europeans, and thus they brought their renaissance with them there. Today, we see that the brain drain continues to the United States, which encourages it by offering many advantages to the great minds until it was able to attract the largest minds in the world.

The last factor is the great military power, thanks to its great military power, the United States was able, directly or indirectly, to control most of the resources of the whole world.

Yes, backed by strength America's economy is one of the largest and most advanced in the world, with strong infrastructure and a highly developed financial system. All of these factors contribute to the strength and success of the United States as a whole, making it a desirable place for people from around the world to live and work with. The diverse American population allows multiple perspectives and ideas to contribute to the development and progress of their country.

agree, everything can be done well by the USA, and can always be better than other countries for almost all sectors.
all kinds of commercial products, technology, sports, films and even education and jobs that are highly valued, make all have a direction to the USA, so it's no wonder the USA is a recognized pioneer of the world economy.
although maybe one day there might be a change with the more advanced China, but it's not easy to shift,

You do love to talk about other nations but as I have started earlier, other nations did human rights violations too and I agreed to that, and I have said that USA wasn't the first. However as you can see the topics name is why america is richer, not why spain or uk or any other nation. If you want you can open a topic about other nations and we can talk about them.

All those "british, french, spanish, germans" etc, are americans, just because they came from europe doesn't change the fact that they stayed and became americans there. The killing of native americans and giving them a small land to live in and conquering all the other lands for themselves by literally murdering and taking scalps of native americans was the core start of how they got richer at first. This is a nation as big as nearly all of europe, and was owned by federation of states getting together, versus other nations that are as big as just states of it, mostly even smaller than that. Native americans, slavery, and all the other things "started" it as I have said a million times so far. Just because you recovered and paid it back today, doesn't change the fact that it was teh start of it, thats how it all started, surely its much better today, but that doesn't change the fact that it was horrible at the start. You agree that crime was made, but you disagree on that helped at the start of it? This is why I keep saying that you can talk this with any historian you want, I have, I literally did that for 4 years in college, and it is agreed that taking continent wide fertile lands by mudering people, and then using slavery was the kickstarter, sure it got better from there (and even today there are discriminations) but that was the start and that helped. Which is why I believe that you can argue this a million times on how great it is today, but you won't change the past and you just have to accept the fact that USA has a very very dark history and that is why we all need to accept the fact that the question was about how it got there, and this is how they got there.

There are many factors that support the American power to remain on the throne of the world economically.  America has the largest reserves of oil, gold, and many precious materials, and it keeps it as a strategic reserve in exchange for consumption based on resources it imports from other countries (colonies) that drain its resources within the framework of a strategic policy of impoverishment, and thus remain the strongest.

snip

So the question now is why did America become such a big economic power? even though if we look at the history of America 100 to 200 years ago it was just a nomadic colony which was a runaway from the Europeans so at the beginning of their independence in 1776 the American people were still very far from the word prosperous, most people in America needed to fight to fight against the ferocity nature and winter even fought against the local population to be able to survive everyday with a GDP that was only 2% of the world's GDP at that time. The United States is by no means considered a force to be reckoned with. My question is what are the factors that make the United States the largest economy in the world?
There are simply too many factors which lead to this but one of the most important was simply the industrial revolution, after the British Empire the US was at the front of the industrial revolution and it allow to the US to become very powerful, then key inventions and new methods were developed at the US which allowed them to surpass the British Empire, a few examples of this are the electricity, the production of cars and many other products at a large scale, seeds resistant to bad weather and new machines which allowed farmers to produce way more food with less workers, and a long list of inventions which is simply too long to name them.
