it's called scale economies.. and it's partly the reason why laptop prices have gone up (relatively) in recent years. the demand for it is shrinking, so manufacturers need to make more margins on the laptops they sell.

demand in smart and mobile phones has increased, so manufactures can afford to make a small margin on each product they sell.

Could you tell me more please about that phones that are being sold for $5 ?!

It's these ones:

The right one is a Nokia 100 and the left one is a Samsung phone that has a number of different names - one of them being "Keystone 2".

They don't seem to make the old Nokias anymore. You know, the ones with the monochrome screens and Snake game. Just the other day I saw a girl drop her Samsung Galaxy S3/4/5 and the whole screen cracked and broke. My old Nokia is still working despite the fact that I got it when I was still in middle school and it has been dropped (on concrete) a couple of times. It just has some scuff marks on the casing and the battery no longer holds a charge. I wonder if the new Nokia "dumphones" like the one above are as durable as the old ones.

I've dropped my S3 at least 10 times onto concrete and it hasn't cracked yet - but I have an A-case on it.  $11.  Saved my ass at least 10 times.  Doesn't make the phone bulky and is grippier than the stock plastic shell.

The Nokia dumbphones are pretty durable.  My old Motorola flip phone was actually not that durable.  Took a direct hit from a tennis ball and it popped the casing and went downhill from there.

Competition is fierce, that makes products drop in price, otherwise it would be a monopoly.

today's mobile phone qualities are low, low price because they know it is going to last few months ,and if it is cheap so you just buy and buy and buy sometimes 3-4 times a year.

I don`t think they are cheap if we compare their prices to some other products. They were bad and expensive before because in that time that was bigger revolution in phone industry than mobile phones these days becuse, when you needed to send letters to comunicate with someone you value any kind of phone more.

Terminated.
Calm down, they charge an insane price for their iPhones yes, but their imac line, macbook, macpro is a fantastic piece of art.

No need to hate a certain company just because it doesn't suit you.

Their iPhone policy is ridiculous, over priced, future iphones only get more expensive instead of cheaper, etc. Not a good way of selling phones.

I have a Macbook pro with retina display, it cost a lot, but it's a joy to use, no laptop can come close to a macbook as in user experience and productivity.

Yeah a piece of art. As far as a piece of useful technology goes, it is not.

So long story short, the manufacturing cost is super low with the growing consumers to change their phones every year.

That forces previous models at a super discount.

Can you ask Apple why their products only get more expensive instead of cheaper while they serve many many customers.

iPhone 5s 16GB €699 equals $953 that's just insane.

Because there are still many idiots who buy crapple.

I absolutely hate that company their products are pretty shitty and their policy is way too restrictive, why can't I decide for my own what apps I install without having to jailbreak it?

Also the fact that they refuse to install SD cards so that they sell even more expensive versions with more storage is just pathetic. And the 3G capable iPads (that have a sim-card slot) do not support whatsapp either, ridiculous.

I own an ipad and an iPhone but I just got them handed down to me. I would never pay a single penny towards crapple products and it amazes me how a company with such policies and practices manages to get that popular.

Buy and sell bitcoins,
Mobile phone use growing en masse, cheaper manufacturing costs, planned obsolescence. Those pieces of crap they sell now aren't meant to last long, and you're supposed to buy another quite soon. Wink

This pretty much sums up most of Apple's doing. A.K.A, the 'everyone has to have' iPhone, where most of the phone is indeed glass, so you can spill your guts breaking it.

I agree with you. I remember my dad having a Nokia for almost a decade, and it only broke last year due to it's cards getting fried after he'd spilled liquids on it for the 100th time.

Personally, I am back to using the second phone I ever had, from 10 years ago, solid LG flip phone LOL. My phone broke recently and this thing has been through hell and back..... using it until I find a replacement. They don't make them like they used to.
