it costs a couple grand per month to operate a basic website for news ... especially if you are the one person writing all the "articles" ... and if you've got 10,000 + btc or so ... each dollar up makes you more money than the total operating costs of the site + your time ... basically each and every one of the "bitcoin news" sites is operated by people with an extreme heavy position in bitcoin gaining value for profit ... ad revenue is irrelevant compared to the price of the bitcoin when you're heavily invested in bitcoin ... just ask yourself ... what would i do if i had 100,000 btc ? ... i'd make a website with nothing but positive slanted news in regards to bitcoin ... duh ...
From what I've seen, most of these news sites have more than one person writing the articles. For example, I can see four different names on the front page of CoinDesk alone. Although I'm sure the writers themselves have lots of BTC so it would be in their best interests to write favorable articles about Bitcoin.
Not to mention the sites that spread FUD or misinformation or fake articles.
In the end, you will have to decide on the most reputable sites and stay with them. People on reddit are quick to point out BS in articles, so it becomes easy to spot the good ones from the bad ones.
I tend to read articles with a open mind and then check them here --->
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=77.0 { Our forum members are also quick to respond on BS, if it was posted there }
Just out of curiosity but which news sites spread FUD, misinformation, or fake articles?
That reminds me, are there any negatively-slanted Bitcoin news sites? I know there was Buttcoin.org which liked to poke fun at the Bitcoin community but that one was satirical and not at all supposed to be serious.
There is a thread or post on this subject on this forum... I searched for key words, but cannot seem to find it. {Maybe one of the other forum members can post a link to it... but I will keep on searching for it, and I will update this post, with the link}
The point I wanted to make, is not all Bitcoin news sites are above board, with the content provided. {They will post FUD and fake articles to attract attention to their sites, and this will increase their traffic for better adverticement income}
You should always "check" them against comments made on forums like this. {They get exposed VERY quickly} To take one example .... the announcement made, Coinbase - first licensed u.s. exchange for bitcoin... and it listed 24 jurisdictions.... some people checked it, and it was false. Some of these jurisdictions had no registered licensing for a bitcoin exchange. {Hype / misinformation.... ?} you decide.
Things are blown up, to sensationalize... it's like that all over the internet, and not just with Bitcoin news sites.
