Its simply because the value of bitcoin goes up most of the time so it is much preferable to invest on it versus investing on banks where the annual interest is too low that you cant even feel your profit after a year of investing on it.

I think it is probably because of the fact that it happens to be one of the first coins that there is. Also, it's age probably plays a big role in it's increase of value. The thing is we all have faith in something that is already been proven effective by time. That's why we tend to invest on that rather on the new ones with no assurance.
