The 5 hours rule makes sense, but this minimum post thing is just dumb imo.

It's not that hard to make 10 posts in topics of interest though. Undecided

I'm glad I found this post through Google. I was trying to reply to another post and my first search here didn't turn up any results, then I realized I can only search once every 5 minutes...

Hey, i'm a newbie,

Bitcoin.info Tweeted this bitcointalk post about a news segment on bitcoin:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/2013-04-30-bbc-america-news-segment-on-bitcoin-192529

So i thought i'd reply, the video he's talking about is at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVKmYVd0CEg

But I can't reply because i'm a newbie, lol.

what's dumb is jumping into the middle of a post about something "serious" and asking a question like "How can I by pass my works firewall so i can set up miners for the monies?" lol

You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

Because you have a dangerous habit of agreeing to things without actually reading them first.

Quote from: The Registration Page, on which you clicked a box saying "I understand that I will initially be unable to post to most forum sections"
RESTRICTIONS FOR NEW MEMBERS

After registering, you will be unable to post in any section except "newbies" until you have spent some time on the forum and have published a few posts.

If you are registering to ask a question, please ask it in the newbies section. Do not wait to ask it just because you must post it in "newbies": the question is very likely to have already been asked. If you don't end up getting good responses, you can ask it again elsewhere after you are established, or you can move the entire topic.

If you are commenting on Bitcoin, use your newbie wait time to read more about Bitcoin. If you are criticizing Bitcoin, find similar criticism using the search tool to see which points have already been covered. A good use of your newbie wait time is reading Satoshi's old posts.
