in addition to what was said about his company's bitcoin related patents and other theories I do believe that this was a plan so that he can advertise bitcoin cash which he did a little in the beginning but since from early days of this false claim the community acted wisely and also since this kind of proof is easily debunked, he could never pull it off successfully.

My guess is that his intentions were to get more power and popularity among Bitcoin users...maybe he have political ambitions as well.

The only reason I can think of is he wants to people to talk about him. Since we all know that there's no way Satoshi will come forward and expose himself, Craig seize the opportunity and claimed the throne even though no one will believe him. I think that his action was purely for the sake of popularity and greed. Unless he can prove that he's Satoshi (and I doubt he can) only then people will believe him and maybe thank him for the wonders that he contributed in the world of cryptocurrencies.

I think he is a very greedy person. He claimed "satoshi nakamoto" as name. But Craig Steven we know is businessman and i think it is a move for thei to try control the bitcoin. Because we know that the bitcoin ia decentralize. So as he claimed satoshi nakamoto name maybe he hope that he manipulate the bitcoin. Craig Wright's company filed many bitcoin-related patents. Maybe the intent was to strengthen the patents.
Rather to profit from it. He is a business man, so he wants more money. If you can patent the original concept, you can charge other people who have used your technologies. This will include all Alt coins that copied his concept. He can even demand royalties for the businesses that built their business model around it.
