There is a big relationship between investment and a person's perception of the world as a whole. There are many older people who like to invest in gold and silver. A good investment in gold and silver is a good fight against inflation a few decades ago. It is clear that in this time gold and silver are not the best investment goods to resist inflation, and most of the people in this forum know that the best investment now is bitcoin.

Gold and silver to them is like bitcoin and altcoin to the millenials.  Not only the elder, the younger generation still invest in precious metal.  People is more comfortable to invest in real thing like gold compared to digital thing like bitcoin.

I'm not one who would invest in precious metals, but I have noticed that a good amount of the older generations are pretty keen in investing in these metals. They see it as a way to bet against the market, and a security that will always be safe -- even in the times of a market downturn/country failure as a whole.

I personally wouldn't even want to buy these metals in those events, as I don't see the reason to. I'd rather invest in securities that go up when the market shits itself (Payroll lending companies and so on and so forth)

Does anyone here know the reason behind people loving precious metals?

Maybe because elderly persons were already accustomed to the word gold and silver. Eversince they were young, these precious metals existed way way back and they know for a fact that these metals were already of good value. Cryptocurrencies were a bit new to them. And with all the news that surrounds these currencies [its volatility, the bear and bull market, the risks involved], will be so much difficult for them to handle. Buying gold or silver will be the safest and easiest way for them to invest their money.
Older people like investing in precious metals like gold and silver, so that they could have their passive imcome because at their age some of them cannot do work. I think older people do not invest in bitcoin because it is new to them and they hesitate if they would invest their money with it or not.

Bitcoin's privacy advocates agree that coding is well suited to the market in times of economic and political uncertainty. This is often thought to be a period of strong gold prices. Unlike gold, however, Bitcoin has shown that it can perform better in a relatively stable period.

Thats closely true fact as I have seen my parents doing that all the time. They always try to buy gold whenever the prices for them are dipping a little.

Well they are now old and they have seen the gold pricing at half of what it is today! So they believe in its continuous growth and who would agree upon that.

I have also read one article where it does mention that the Gold rate always increase by around 7-9% each year and its so true this year as well since the gold prices has soared up a lot.

May be they have seen the real profits (and stable) thats why they invest in it.

Short selling is allowed because someone will benefit from it. So, to hate it or just accept the fact it's up to you.
Absolutely agree. Actually, as I've noticed the more experienced and time-hardened you are the more prudent you become, especially in terms of money.

Because  the prices of gold and silver are stabilized, generally, older people like stability and don't like things that change too much. Moreover, I agree with that aphorism: gold is the best hedging tool.

The older generation lives by its established stereotypes. It is difficult for them to understand the crypto currency, this is not their time. Crypto currency is easily gaining popularity among young people, they will continue to promote it and work with it. Therefore, the older generation buys gold and silver, and young people buy bitcoins and other crypto currency.

You know the old people always have a lot of skepticism about modern things and facilities. They are not usually willing to try new things, they are most times comfortable with only what they are already used to. I think that is why they continued to chose gold and silver and not willing to even try Cryptos.

Because this way of investing for them is understandable. And all people, especially the elderly, are afraid to be deceived.

The reason is the value of gold and silver usually have the same purchasing power. They are usually used as a safe-haven asset. Historically they perform well during periods of economic or political uncertainty. So,  whether it was 1,000 years ago, one hundred years ago, or today… the value of one ounce of gold has been about the same.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
Older people like to invest in gold or silver becauae that is one of the only things that they know of becoming rich. They don't know how the internet works. They don't know what the internet can do to our life and to the world. I know some of them know how to use internet but most of them don't. As we all know, old people grew up without technology. They don't have the internet so that is why in the present day, they don't trust the internet. But the thing is, they should know how to use bitcoin.
Most of the people that invest in gold do not do it because they want to become rich they do it to protect themselves from inflation, in fact in the past it was recommended that you put 10% of your investment portfolio and pray that it does not work because if it does then it means that the rest of your portfolio is going down and probably the rest of the economy as well.
i guess you have a point, well because as i had asked someone before too, he said that he prefers to invest into solid investments just like gold and silver, and aside from that he prefers to invest in something that is less volatile than what crypto is right now, i am also confused why he chose that, but it is his own perception and strategy, we cannot blame him.
People have different tolerances to risk, some people prefer to only make safe investments and there is nothing safer than gold and silver, the only problem is that only works when you have a lot of money already, people like us are willing to accept an higher amount of risk since what we want more than anything is to grow our capital, if I did not invested in bitcoin it would have been impossible for me to have the small amount of money I have now.

old people since most of them are not computer literate. These old people's generation is far more different than us where we see cryptocurrency as an effective way of investment.so their generation is use to the gold and silver as been the real valuable asset of security.
There are so many people in this world who are not happy with the advancement in the technology and that they are not ready to accept this change in any way and that they are still investing their money into investments like that of the gold and silver as they still believe in this thing that investing in gold can help them in more earning which is not the case. Sooner or later, they must go for investing in crypto coins for better earning.

The fact that old people invest in gold and silver is just because they have spent their lives investing in the precious metals and earning by holding them and selling when the price goes up so that is exactly like investment in Bitcoin but this is a technology that has far more advantages than gold and silver.

The gold and silver investment is a traditional investment and this does not allow you to make international transaction in matter of seconds but the case of Bitcoin is different and we can have so many services across the border in short time.

Exactly. I think the older they were in the old days, the older ones. Maybe it's a good way for them to invest safely.
The value of gold and silver will remain the same for several hundred years.
Value will change but not significantly, but they invest so is also considered smart.

Because between us and they have gap about generation  Grin Grin Grin
In fact, older people always have a lot of worries and I do not think they are interested in investing in Crypto because they are afraid because Crypto is so new and it's like a virtual thing, they can not see it and can not handle it. In addition, Bitcoin have a huge risk and it is not valued by any model and fears that this is a psychological game.
I have met many old people and I told them about Bitcoin, as a result I was scolded for daring to believe what the internet said, oh my gods @@
In fact, the idea of trying to cope with the way technology is moving pretty fast is something huge for them which I believe their brain may not actually be ready to go through all those stress of trying to blend with the jet age.

This new age is moving very fast and I imagine how things are going to be when we also start becoming an older generation as well. It is normal, as they would rather want to stick with what they have believed in and has never failed them over the years. I believe it is just the truth that they feel more secured investing in what they have always believed in when it comes to store of value.

Like OP said, they are older generations, and we know how this age is evolving pretty fast which I want to assume will be so much for their brains to even start wrapping how things are done. Also, these are less risky investments, and no old generation will actually want to be taking unnecessary risks at their age anyway.

Older people find it difficult to master new technologies and they seem too dangerous for them. Precious metals in their opinion are more reliable for investment.

It's most likely because it's just tangible and near-stable when it comes to worth. Gold and silver are just old-school stores of value
