They're so stupid, I could easily tell you to get a job but there are other things you can do online which will earn you alot more.
I must agree, its waste of time. So much quicker ANY other job/work.
well everyone can choose what to do with their free time cant they? maybe they want to earn bitcoins thats why they dont do work instead

I think faucets are great, there is a low barrier of entry and anyone can use it to learn more about bitcoin. It will never replace a job to purchase bitcoin. Its a risk free investment of just time.

No one's using faucets in place of a job (it's economically not possible.) People use faucets because it's "free" bitcoin and "free" has a crazy allure to it...it pulls people in. Also, a lot of the faucet sites have a gambling aspect which gives people the opportunity to earn more.

I agree and disagree. Some people must be trying to use faucets as a job because some just seemingly spend their entire time trying to get as much dust as possible from as many faucets as they can. If they had jobs they wouldn't bother wasting their time like this. I agree that most newbs just use them because they think its the easiest way to get free coins but the sooner they realise they're wasting their time the better.

Checkout /r/beermoney for example.

As for me, I use it to get some small amount of free bitcoins when there is no other way to do it. Beermoney is OK, but most sites are U.S.A. only, or do not have a continuous flow of tasks. Signature campaings are good, but sometimes you just don't know what to write or do not feel like it.

Also, I use faucets while a do other regular online jobs. I get to load one or two faucets in between page loading and take some satoshis, then continue working. It adds up and I do not lose time doing faucets alone  Grin

They give you free pennies while you do their work for them through watching/clicking advertisements.

Not exactly.

People that play the faucets do the work they get paid for, i.e., look at a web page.

People that run faucet websites do the work they get paid for, i.e., create online real-estate to have ads and find people to look at those ads.

Don't confuse the two. Everyone involved is doing their own work to get their own pay.

When you say the term "free", the tendency is people will gather to redeem it no matter how small or big it is. Same with how faucet works. They give you free pennies while you do their work for them through watching/clicking advertisements. Though what they don't know is that dust transactions often bring unwanted events. See http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/10986/what-is-meant-by-bitcoin-dust

Hardly any faucets are on-chain faucets anymore. Most of them use xapo or faucetbox now. Yes there are still some faucets that will send payouts once a week using one transaction with a couple inputs and then sending to hundreds of outputs creating dust, but most faucet owners are switching to off-chain solutions these days.

I rarely use faucets when I want to round up my BTC balance.
When having balances like 0.09975 whilst needing 0.1, faucets are great.

Haha, if it was so easy to earn BTC0.1 with a faucet, everyone would be doing it. That's 10,000,000 Satoshi, when the avg faucet offers 850 an hour, 11,764 claims or clicks or hours.

No. I didn't earn 0.09975 from faucets ever. I use faucets just to round up already existing non-faucet stashes.

Nik, so you're using faucets to make up the difference betwee 0.09975 and 0.1? That makes more sense...you're looking for 0.0002500? That's definitely possible in a day...I get it, thanks.

When I noob on bitcoin , faucet taught me how I can earn bitcoin and how to save it rather than spend it. Guess what ? When I'm earned 17.000 satohi / week or BTC 0.00017 on freebitco.in , I was so happy. So faucet is the best practice for new people who want to know how bitcoin can be earn.

I think faucets are a good way to save on transaction fees.
When I have time I get around 150000 satoshi per week: I stake them to pay a good transaction fee.
It's my way to put those money back into the BTC system I think
What are you talking about? It is completely opposite. If you collect 'dust' from faucets your transaction fees will be can be huge in the future.
You will lose significant part of your faucet earning trying to compose 'dust' transactions. You may want to think twice before that.

I don't understand what you mean. Can you explain a little more?
I could agree that faucets create a lot of dust but my reason behind what I said is that since they're there why not take advantages out of them...

Faucets are a good time killer for those that are looking for some extra bitcoin.
Signature campaigns are better methods for extra BTC if you have SR member or higher rank.

But there are also games you can play that pay out via faucets, so it's not just all captcha entering.

For example have you ever played primedice and used their faucet? It's pretty cool except you can't cashout unless you 5000X the faucet amount.
DISCLAIMER: SELF PROMOTION: That's why I created faucet+dice. It's a full provably fair dice game you can play that has no minimum cashout amount since it pays out via faucetbox. So you can immediately withdraw and just use it like a faucet or you can play dice and withdraw when you're done.

Yes, faucets are meant for newbies to get some bitcoins for free and get the feel for using them. They can then transfer them to a wallet, see how the fees work, maybe accumulate a few more and try gambling etc. I do not think anyone using a faucet expects to get rich off of them, but it is a good way for someone new to bitcoin and maybe a bit leery on how it works to get experience before risking their own funds.

I agree 100%, faucets are a complete waste of time where you can't earn nothing but some bitcoin dust. The only people that earn from faucets are the faucet operators.

Why are people using them? Well these are mostly newbies that don't know much about Bitcoin and that think they will actually make some money by typing captchas. After some time, when people see that they can't make anything, they give up.
