Some people prefer to be anonymous on this forum, which is totally fine. It is all up to the users choice.

Isn't that the truth. Smiley

My point is that by not revealing your location, you make some trades and contacts difficult if one wants personal contact, or to avoid delivery charges or escrow.

Not everyone is here to do trades and make real life contacts.

And if you reveal your location you will be exposed to stalking and trolling too. When you receive letters with shit and used toillet paper you probably will regret that your localization is known

If the item is a car for example. Then dealing with a trusted member is ideal as you could assume they would keep your location private.

That's exactly my point. So a guy has got a nice Shelby Cobra for sale, and I fancy buying it. If I don't know where he is, then it's a waste of time thinking about it. He's probably in California, and I'm in England.

No. People on this forum over-complicate most transactions.
A transaction can be done anonymously with ease.

Simple as saying:

Person A has an iPhone. Person B has BTC0.69
If Person A refuses to deal with an escrow. Then the transaction should not be done. Majority of the people who offer escrow services don't require any fees to be paid.
And having good trust always helps.

Why would anyone post their location in this forum. The greatest feature of bitcoin is its anonymity so why would anyone come out and post their locations?? Give us at least one good reason.

For me anonymity is of no consequence. Bitcoin has got a lot more to offer than that.

Why would they need to disclose stuff that others does not need to know?

So far, my profile is the only one that I have seen that contains a geographic location.

Probably.
Anyway, is Shire a geographic location Huh

Early 90's internet was seedy. I didn't personally start posting publicly again until 2007.

It's not seedy now? Boy, one learns something new every single day. As many have experienced, the internet does strange things to human behaviour. I think it's prudent to minimise any opening for that to spill over into real life if you can help it.

Good point ;-)

I started this thread because I wanted to buy Bitcoins for cash, and make the transaction through a face-to-face meeting. It's difficult to arrange this if you don't know where a person is based (or travelling). People seem to have misconceptions about cash - some even think PayPal is cash. Even PayPal thinks it has invented "new money" it seems.

I am from India... If people want they can post in their country's subforum...
Since a lot of scams are going on over the Internet,  maybe people are scared and would like to keep it personal.. Smiley
I see a lot of hatred about religions in this forum, so better to hide your location if you are from an islamic  country..

There is no need to know my location and who wants to know it already kows it. I can say that I am currently living in a different country from the one I was born in.
I like the idea of the old internet (only a nickname, an alias) not the new one (facebook and else).
Of course it has its pros and cons but I don't like the "new" internet.

I know what you mean but personally I feel there was much more honesty and trust back then. I learnt so much during those years. Today the internet represents what we see out there: shopping malls, ads and stuff rule everything.
Maybe I'm too old fashioned  Cheesy

I posted my exact location in my profile.

Seriously though: personally, I'm not trying to hide or be anonymous in regards to my support of bitcoin
but not everyone online is completely "hinged" so keeping some information to oneself may be a preference for some people.

P.S.
I have at one point participated in a real estate forum with ALL of my info available for years.
My office location and contact info were in my profile and at the time my personal residence and an investment property were listed for sale
So this "unhinged" person decided to call me at all hours and remind me that he knew where I lived *forgot to add and that he had access to lockboxes (the little thingy that we code electronically to keep house keys in.)
(not a troll ;-) a true crazy person.

Post your location if you like.

I guess people don't post their exact location for the same reason you tell your kids to be careful online. There are a lot of freaks on the internet.
