They not free coins.

The company was going to give them a cash bonus but then they probably decided that giving it as bitcoins is a cool idea. Of course it doesn't make it a bad act it just like giving euro's instead of dollars. Have they guessed that bitcoin will rise to 900$+ or not isn't important. What matters is that do the employees trust bitcoin? Looks like your friend trusted bitcoin and didn't cash out immediately after having one. Bingo.

Upon hearing the story, I will assumed that OP's friend only knows the idea of bitcoin not that much. Because he got it from the company bonus so cashing it out will takes more days in process since they didn't know where will it be exchanged. Since it was told to the OP, I will assumed again that OP makes some view pointing to the current price of bitcoin so he makes some advices not to cash it out.

By the way to the OP, how your friend received the bitcoin from the said firm?

Well I have clearly written that as a bonus he received it and the firm has always been keen to give high rewards and around 100 were given as a trial. They have good knowledge of Bitcoin it's a finance company, they always keep update with the current revolutions for their clients and all. No I did not advice him, indeed he had told me two weeks back btc would cross 945 before year end and today it did. There's a good story of a frog living in a well thinking that's the only world, but sadly there is a outside world he did not see. You can't just rely on your thoughts, you need to be in the open to see what could be other aspects.

So on a nice Christmas party time, drinks on the house I and my friend were discussing about Bitcoin, he's from the finance field and he generally knows a lot, so I thought I would use my Bitcoin knowledge to surprise him, wish I had not done it lol, so when I told him to invest in Bitcoin, I thought he would ask what it is and he replied he has one free bitcoin already. You can imagine the look, one free bitcoin here collecting satoshi's we hardly reach to a Bitcoin and he already has one. It so happens that the firm where he works decided to give bonus and they decided to give one free bitcoin to the selected staff and they have promised to give more in future that's so cool. You get salary, plus a Bitcoin perks of a employee life....

That's a generous company, plus the company have a cool way to spread bitcoin around, giving away 1 btc is like give over $2k in the future and it's surprised come from finance sector, which means it's accept bitcoin or have a plan to adopt it?

This s a good incentive, atleast i do see those as incentive, and the company is taking a good step allowing their employers to know about crypto currencies, and in the future they can get a huge ammount instead those small bonus, since bitcoin potencial its huge.

That's a pretty cool bonus format, even with a standard company bonus you could just buy a bitcoin but nice to know a company in the finance sector is doing things like this.

Banking associates - $100 000 Christmas bonus
Surgeons - $60 000 Christmas bonus
Radiologists - $47 500 Christmas bonus
Investment-banking analysts - $45 000
Medical directors - $40 000

In terms of careers, energy and mining in general provided the most lucrative bonuses for all employees, averaging about $10,000. It was followed by hardware and networking, which gave workers about $9,000 in extra cash at the end of the year, and software and IT services, which gave about an $8,000 bump.

Spend less time here and invest more time advancing your career and eventually you will get there one day  Grin

There are better things a company can offer than BTC, since BTC can be bought easily from exchanges but it is nice of the manager to offer BTC bonus to his employees.

So the firm gave away around $900 as a bonus for a selected staff. That is one of the biggest bonus I heard of a company. I will assumed it only at once right for maybe once a year or something like that? You know you can have lots of bitcoin for a year but of course a bonus like that is really a big factor.

Anyways let's point with the "future" promised of that firm so still you can take advantage of that than being regret. Pack all your needs then apply to that firm now. Smiley

That's actually kind of fascinating, never thought that there would be a company that would do things like that and offer perks like that.

But, when you think about it, $924 (right now) isn't much to a company for a perk, and considering that it's a financial company, chances are there are a ton of opportunities for something like this within their business model.

Brilliant idea when you consider it from the business' point of view.

Well, I don't think it is really neccessary to work for this particular employer to get a bitcoin Grin, there is many other ways how to get some.
The good point about the story is, that it shows that bitcoin starts to be noticed by a wider public and that it is also seen as a good bonus with a value or a good investment. Cool

It just makes sense for companies involved in Bitcoin to do so, doesn't seem to be that strange to me.
A lot of companies give their employees bonuses in one way or another, it isn't always cash.

The Company is not involved in Bitcoin. The OP's friend works in the finance field.
The OP thought he would surprise his friend with his knowledge about Bitcoin.
It is the equivalent of a bonus, but I do think it is a nice thoughtful gesture by his friend's employer.

how lucky your friend is. well the company should have a lots of bitcoin to be given to their employees. or they accept bitcoin. whatever it is, they have give free one bitcoin.
Well the company has a lot of fiat, not bitcoin imo. Its not that hard to exchange their fiat to bitcoin.

well you do not have to regret. you can send CV or some documents to get a job on that company and work the best you can to get one bitcoin too.
You dont need to do that complicated thing to just get one bitcoin. Just get a job from any company, and work hard to get attention from your boss. If your boss happy, you will get your bonus. Want to get it in bitcoin? Exchange it yourself.

I would like to receive a bonus this way, to have a bitcoin at the end of the year. I am pretty sure the company compensate this employee because he surely did a nice work the entire year and get recompensate with 1 bitcoin Wink

Normally, companies give bonus with fiat money that you need to pay tax on it.

These free Bitcoins are probably some kind of bonus for their employees at the end of the year. For some reason they have decided to pay this bonus in Bitcoin not in fiat. Maybe they are involved in Bitcoin business or it was easier this way for them because of taxes. At the moment this is very good because the price is high and they will decide whether to keep or sell this bonus.

I am a bit curious how can a company give free bitcoin, does your company involved in bitcoin business, it is really rare that a company could give the employee bitcoin, how if the employee doesn't know what is bitcoin, what will the company do? will the company exchange it to fiat and give it to the employee? I personally thinks giving your employee a bitcoin is not a good idea

Your question answer has already been written in my post, it's a financial company and its very big, I can't name it though. Of course they and their employees do know about Bitcoin and they were asked to choose between Fiat and Bitcoin all opted for Bitcoin. I don't know but why would it be a bad idea, the value shall rise, the employee shall be more happier to work hard. More people will come to Bitcoin. So explain why it's not a good idea.
