Because of the recent Crypto Kitties game. Buying and selling virtual kittens on the main Ethereum blockchain. Literally just a virtual character on a website. Like collecting pokemon in Pokemon Go except that it runs on the ETH blockchain and the only way to add new kitten are to buy or gave birth to it. Both done on ETH chain and people somehow love it. That's why the network is clogged up, people are making transactions to sell, buy, and gave birth to new kittens LOL. Hilarious. What a way to force Ethereum dev to scale up their blockchain Tongue

I agree, this article says it all  https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/03/people-have-spent-over-1m-buying-virtual-cats-on-the-ethereum-blockchain/

It's next biggest thing after Pokemon game.

because ethereum also has some serious scaling issues and each time the number of transactions on the ether chain increases, everything goes to hell. the cost of a transaction will increase too fast and too high, even faster than bitcoin and you will feel the slowness, and there also have been serious cases that the network went down and exchanges had to disable deposit and withdrawals for a week until the issue was solved.
this mostly happens during the ICOs where there is a lot of chaos happening everywhere.

What do you mean "slow"?
It is slow exchange growing?
or it is slow to transfer?

I think Ethereum is now realizing what Bitcoin is passing through, no matter what once there is increase in adoption and price of the tokens this will happen and again thanks to miners for playing their dirty game also

same problem here. try to send something from etherdelta to my wallet. have the gwei price as always set but since yesterday it need so much time.
made a transfer 15 hours ago and it is still pending. it is also strange, that the minute counters began from zero again a few time and that happened never before.

any ideas??

Most of the cases are the Gas Price you are willing to give that makes your transaction slow.

Also, note that the ETH is currently slow due to the many ICOs and transactions taking place.

Oh...  You mean there's a fee market on the Ethereum blockchain just like the Bitcoin blockchain?  Hey high five!  Lol.  I didn't expect this to happen.  But Ethereum shouldn't be worried.  Sharding is coming soon, right?

Cryptokitties everywhere!

Does that mean the cental banks and any government entity can't stop Ethereum, but cryptocurrency memes can?  Talk about irony.

And I think it won't stop there.  Cryptodoges and cryptopandas are coming on the Ethereum blockchain for sure!  Cheesy

This makes it looks has if, it is slow or poor, No, it is normal, BTC was once this way remember

Sending tokens from each wallet doesn't feel slow actually, as the thread stated he is trading so it's normal for trading of slowing and waiting much time. It is somewhere took more time in the order books so that wouldn't fall slower than average trading pending time.

I am doing trades on ehterdelta where the default gas price is 4 Gwei. The network in the last few days is terribly slow I remember 1 week ago I was making trades on 1 Gwei and even 0.1 and the transactions were done within minutes, now with 4 Gwei I have to wait like 20 minutes and sometimes the transactions get canceled. My question is what is the reason for this? Is it temporary or it will be like this for the near future?
i have same experience, i have transfer some zdr token to etherdelta, and until few days its not confirm, i think its not comfortable using etherdelta in future, but they accept almost 90 percent erc 20 token, its any other option?

You can then use commercial Cryptocurrency exchange if you faster transaction, Etherdelta is somehow reliable on ERC20 tokens trade. Bittrex.com and HitBTC is the best option for quick and secure transactions.

I don't think Ethereum is slow even you decrease the gas, maybe perhaps your trading was pending somewhere between order books.
Ethereum os fast when it comes to sending coins from each wallet and it's normal for every Cryptocurrency will become slow on trading. Relax and take some Coffee

It is not slow but it still could struggle sometimes because of such stories like cryptokittens or huge ICO running.

But in the most of time, it makes txs on 20 Gwei in 1-2 minutes.
