i had this same problem with a sapphire 7950. it would jack right up to 100 within five minutes of mining. all the other cards on the mobo were an acceptable 78 degrees. i rma'd it and got back a card that can't mine for S*** so now im dealing with that. boy o mining is fun!

What software are you using to mine? You can adjust the temperature of work with some software like CGMiner or BFGMiner.

My rig is using two USB fans to help and my working temperature is always 70 degrees

If you have a big fridge, put your rig inside. Hahaha!!

As JackRabiit says, you need good airflow.

why never run the fans at 100% for longer than an hour ? mine is 100% 24/7 (gigabyte 7950 3 fans)

Pee on it... it worked for my dog... for a moment at least. Guess it was his way of getting back at me for having his balls cut off! lol Two 7950's down the drain... I knew I should have never used a completely mesh case Sad

Get a can of compressed air off ebay and blast the dust out of your heatsinks.

my 7970s max out at around 80C under load with good cooling (60% fan profile)

And I'm in Texas too -- so it's not exactly cold here Smiley

And when you move it with AB or trixx, dont trust it. Use GPUZ to recheck, software lies sometimes

Yeah, I'll probably buy the sapphire and return this one after I get the new one. I found my sapphire 5830 to be extremely reliable for how long I used it for BTC

There's nothing in the Catalyst software to adjust the voltage. Maybe I can if I hack it. But I decided I probably don't want to keep the card permanently anyway.

My old Sapphire 5830 only runs at a little over 80 with no additional cooling other than the stock fans

I ordered this one because I wanted something with more hashes. I might just use it for a few days before the difficulty goes up exponentially, then RMA it Cheesy

So I tried turning it down to 950/1000 and it's now only running in the 90's, but the fan is still always at 100%
If I only want to keep it for the next several days because I don't want to miss out on value while LTC difficulty is still reasonable, will I fry it right away?

Most likely. I guess you cant lower the voltage? I suppose its one of those idiotic cards running at 1.225 or even 1.25V ?

First of all, I had like 40 of these XFX cards as RMA. Consider changing it if you can. Second, if you stick to the card, run it at 950 core/1000 memory. You can also lower the Vcore to 1V

In Collateral I Trust.

That's the one I have

I just put it on my old PC the way I would with a gaming GPU

I set it to 1025 MHz and 1450mhz clock because that's what github told me to

Should I install some kind of cooler? I also noticed that it only has one fan on it and most 7950's have two. I feel like that might be part of the issue, so I might return it and get a sapphire

Drop the Mem speed considerably, it won't live long at those temps. All my GPU's are hotter mining LTC than BTC but none are near your temps.

Is it overclocked? Mine only gets at 80ºc with the core at 1100mhz.
