I am surprised that people are looking for accounts that can be punished for something)) This account is so old and hasn't hurt anybody, and the owner doesn't use it, but still after so many years he has attracted attention...  Undecided

Avatar is like a profile image in your account and you can using it to earn more cryptocoin by joining a bounty campaign. Maybe if this wrong, a senior can correcting it.
It depends,just as it does when it relates to signature also...
There are two types of signture/avatar..
There's the personal one(based on your preference and what you'll like to display),then there's the one for bounty programs(were you're expected to put it on inorder to advertise for them)

So it varies,if you're a full member and above on a bounty that requires you to put on an avatar,you'll wear the specific avatar of the project,and thus advertise for them(and make money as you said)
But if you're not on any bounty as a full member and above,its up to you to put up an avatar of your choice(its optional)

Same thing also applies to a signature,only the restrictions are less, as Jr member and above are allowed to wear either a bounty signature or their personal signature..

Hi. I just wonder whether avatar is important, must included ??

I am really sad, in your eyes, is the avatar just a tool to make money?
If you think so, then where you place your avatar should be called "advertising location".
Avatar is just a display of personal style and preferences, and it has nothing to do with whether you make money.

Back in the old days, anyone could use an avatar.

His account is from 2011. Before the change, he was using an avatar, so he stayed with it.

At first all users can use avatar, but i remember, when i join to the forum in 2014, no one was allowed to use them, i think there was a bug in that part of the code. But looks like the bug get fixed and now we can use avatar again.

And it was fun, when theymos reintroduce the avatars all users who try to add an avatar get a sponge bob image. Just epic.

You are confusing avatar with Signature. Copper Memership doe not give avatar. Currently you have to earn avatar by accumulating 100 Merits.
My bad, got confused Smiley. I get it now that copper membership is for signature and free from the restriction of posting images. Well it's different now from before where newbies can add avatar without ranking to full member as stated in previous replies from experts.

Technically speaking, when your rank is below full member you don't have access to the avatar menu page (upload, remove) but there is an avatar column in the forum database linked to your account id.
So if you are a full member (or higher) and you uploaded an avatar (or registred before the changes) if you de-rank, you will lose access to the avatar menu but it will remain saved in the database, thus, only who has directly modify database records can change or remove the avatar.

@op: Well, if you're thinking about having an avatar yourself is to buy copper membership as it is the fastest way to have an access to changing avatar amytime without ranking up to full member rank rather than starting from newbie to full member and also the btc you pay can be use for the forum.

After the hack in 2013, there was some issue with avatars. theymos disabled avatar and when it was re-enabled, this time, it was restricted to full members and up only. That's why people were not able to delete their avatar and it still remains same before the hack.

Interesting, there was a case around a year ago, I was newbie at that time, of one user who was de-ranked and he wanted his avatar to be removed /it was a signature campaign stuff/, because he had no access to the avatar menu to remove it himself. I don't really remember what happened then and what was the outcome but I remember that he had no access to the menu and he posted some screenshots.

They still have their avatars. Link for changing/removing avatar is disabled for them and they are stuck with these avatars until they rank up or theymos manually delete them.

I don't know what happens if you de-rank from Full member to member. Do you keep your avatar without an option to change/remove it or it's automatically removed.

There have been a few cases, and I believe that you keep it, but can't change it. I seem to remember there was a case where somebody deleted his avatar, and couldn't repace or restore it.

The last case is a 2017 account, whilst the others are 2011 or 2013 accounts. I guess that the 2017 account case (@I_LOVE_PIVX) suggests that perhaps all de-ranked cases keep their avatar.

Then this proofs what I was thinking that the avatars get locked the same way as the old accounts from around 2011.
It's good to have such info saved somewhere, I think I'll add this to my comprehensive guide. Thank you DdmrDdmr, no sMerit left to give for this useful research.

That will be interesting to see.
I spotted some cases that have not had their avatar removed when de-ranked:

Legendary-> Member Wolf0
Hero-> Member pafu
Hero -> Jr. Member deadsea33
Full Member -> Newbie I_LOVE_PIVX

So those accounts below full member rank and have avatar, they are stuck in current avatar because it has been years and they may not want that avatar anymore. And there is no option to change or delete their current avatar.

As far as I remember, theymos and Cyrus can actually remove/change avatars and they have done it before, but with the current work load I don't think someone will pay attention to so miniature problem.

Since April 1, 2015, You must be a full member or above to upload an avatar, without this limitation before.

Therefore, it can upload an avatar at that time without being a Full member.

Another possibility , somebody is already above full member rank , deleted all the post without removing avatar. New rank will change to newbie but that existing avatar will exist.
