They're still believing on bitcoin even if there are many bad news spreading about it because of its potential to grow again and again and bigger than last years price. Because bitcoin is volatile and its normal. The current price will appear huge because you compare it from the point where it started. But you are not thinking about future, there is still lot of growth opportunity for bitcoins. However, you are correct that some of the alt coins can give better returns than bitcoins with short term investment.
