The only real reason to rank up is an opportunity to earn more from bounty campaigns, 95% of forum users are there because of that.

Because the forum has a rank system, there will be differentiated benefits, so someone will need rank.
If don't have rank system, you won't ask such a boring question.

I think one of the main benefits that come with a higher rank, is the knowledge you learn on the way up. Ranking up takes a lot effort, and time, reading and learning.
There are additional benefits, signature style, avatar (for Sr member and above), and access to boards restricted to lower ranked members.

I think all the basic reasons have been laid out well enough (bigger signature, better rewards in campaigns, recognition, strengthens the content of posts, more credibility, avatar, colours, backgrounds, and so on).

Besides the tangible perks, some can see it as a personal challenge, even more so in the Merit System era where persistence over time is not enough, but rather you need to also racket the brain a bit in order to manage to rank-up at least  couple of levels. That challenge may have more appeal to some than the tangible perks, although in smaller numbers for sure.

Well, the best part of having a nice rank is the signature campaigns, is that moment where you get paid for posting, different companies offer different payments for the signatures but as Legendary you can earn between $70 and $250 weekly with your signature.

Many users are convinced that thanks to a higher ranking they can gain more trust of other users. Fraudsters use this for loans and trading scams. The higher rank also allows you to place more text at the place of the signature, thanks to which they get a higher reward when they participate in signature campaigns. Actually more benefits is coming from the trust level.

Take away PM limits, signatures, and avatar benefits another reason you need to rank up is so when you make quality contributions other members will take you seriously. Most time replies from newbies are overshadowed by higher rank replies (except on rare occasions active merit senders dedicate their time to finding post worth meriting by lower rank users). e g I came across a reply that was merited and the previous reply said almost the same thing but was a lower rank user but didn't get merited, I merited user and he ranked up.

Apart from signature and earning purposes which is of course basic and important, another reason to rank up is that it gives self satisfaction and such ranked up user can definitely be proud of him or herself..
It's not so easy to rank up, at least from member rank and above, So to earn the required merits and activities to rank up is really something a user should be proud of..
And as higher ranks come, thus higher earnings

This change in the BTC forum that has removed signatures for newbies and dropped Jr members down due to no merit is a good change. I can see it cleaning up a lot of zero quality post's as it's been quite crowded regarding multiple account's and mass spam from people trying to collect bounties. Many useless posts and responses seem to have taken over the forums lately.

A good reason to have a rank system to keep quality post's up and reduce the amount of junk.

I believe that the rank system is identifying the quality contributors and giving some sort of recognition to them. Personally, it motivates me to seek/share more and more knowledge, experience and opinions. There are some technical benefits given to the higher rank members but for me, recognization of efforts is the biggest benefit of ranking.

With increasing rank increases the possibility of account. For example, I do a lot of bounty and drops. Each bounty company has its own rules and rank is of great importance. This is only one rank advantage. Rank for each user has its own value

We need to rank up to avail of better opportunities to earn more bucks especially when you are doing a signature campaigns. And there are campaigns which requires a higher-ranking member of this forum in order to participate because based on the rankings one can tell that he/she has already a considerable experience and fit to the job. So I think that is why.

You can write posts with more characters or just make some colours in posts thanks to ranks, what is more people are looking in a diffrent way in some aspects and you could enter in campaigns.

Actually if you join this forum to share knowledge and news about Bitcoin and others, you do not need to raise your rank even as you share your knowledge through any picture, that only require jr.member rank.

But different if you join this forum to follow the bounty program (especially signature), because to get more income from signature you are requires a fairly high rank like sr.member and above... (so if you want to follow the signature program you need raise your rank)

the benefit of ranking here is personal to me is to distinguish how long you join this forum bitcointalk and also reinforced by jumblah post you create.
almost the same as factory employees if you have been their employees for a long time then you will be promoted and receive a reward that may be slightly higher than new employees in an industry, the higher your rank the greater the rewards you will get.
If you imagine schoolchildren from a small level to a higher level then the more knowledge you will get.

Any benefits for rank of Bitcointalk, I will give you some example, If you are newbie you didn't to participate of signature Campaign, Signature Campaign only for jr member or higher and many rank have stakes different, If your rank jr member you only get stakes 3, and if you are full member maybe you can get 10 stakes. Its for example. Please read my bounty project, so you will understand. Thanks you

The updated new system will kill almost every spammers who are all posting all day to rank up and join a campaign. So ranking is good for reduce the spam posts.  This system will increase post quality by forcing the people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up.

Outside of what everyone has said about PM, signatures, and avatar allowances, one of the main reasons people rank up is to participate in signature and bounty campaigns. Often times the payments for these services is scaled based on the rank of the user.  Usually these campaigns pays peanuts for jr. members and newbies are not allowed to join most of them.  This has slowed down a bit with the new rank up procedures and merit requirements which is a good thing to limit the account farmers and spam posts all over the board.

Another reason is to provide newcomers knowledge that they can trust. Since merit is now a requirement the posts are becoming a higher quality. I tend to look at th me rank of users when I read post that are educational or technical and trust them much more than a newbie or jr member posting similar information.  While this is not always true it’s just another view that I have on rank. At the end of the day though if you don’t care about any of those things there is no real reason that you have to rank up.  Just enjoy the forum and provide input where you can.

Apart from what "sud" mentioned, here's the "New PM limits" (those with higher ranks and activities, have less restrictions in terms of sending PM's):
