Bitcoin FTW!
Yep, I don't ever touch eBay for anything electronics-related or for anything even remotely expensive, especially for selling, because as most of you already know, eBay is buyer-sided and it's easy to get scammed on the site. I've gotten burned twice on some low-priced GPUs a few years back, and I've gotten plenty of definitely-not-as-described items that were a huge PITA to return/refund on the site- some bigger sellers just let me keep the item (e.g a keyboard), but most required me to return whatever I bought, which was a hassle especially on cheaper stuff and in the end it wasn't worth my time to even go to drop off the goods in a collection box. I just try to deal on Bitcointalk for electronics now because escrow and trust seems to work well here with very few exceptions.

Normal people try to earn some quick money from novice buyers on eBay. Happens with a lot off things - they snipe some product(s) that get sold out really quick and later resell those items for a premium.

If you buy from Ebay, you do not need to worry about custom and duty.

I have no problem with customs and duty in the US.  My problems with Ebay are all the fraud and scammers - especially on these pre-orders which Ebay doesn't really support.

I bought several Z9 minis on Ebay because I was late to the game.  The honest sellers trade information like order number from Bitmain and tracking.  One of my orders 45 days ago sent me a USPS priority mail envelope with a code in it.  Claims it was to prevent fraud.  Then they posted that tracking number on Ebay as product shipped and went silent.  It took me several weeks of fighting with Ebay, then PayPal, and finally my Visa card to get my money back.

My advice it to stay away from Ebay for "advance orders".  You might run out of time for a claim.

Ok then... even for Aug shipment... do these asic miners not even make $200 over ROI? what's the point even making them....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BITMAIN-Antminer-Z9-mini-10k-Sol-s-300-W-Zcash-ASIC-Miner-Pre-order-Aug/113058989927?hash=item1a52d74767:g:55IAAOSwJ7dbIONS

A valid point would be to eliminate or at least reduce the RISK involved and speed up the time needed to earn profits. The estimated time to ROI alone for the Z9 ASIC is now already a few months, what more when the august batch arrives? By selling now they get to lock in profits, possibly even within a single day if they schedule the deal to immediately take place after delivery of the ASIC. Now ask yourself whats the point, right?

If I could get the Aug $850 Z9 today which would cost me $550 including shipping after $350 coupons I have, ROI is only 19.2 days even with this depressing coin price. Z9 easily overclock to 15k sol but I am using 14k for my calculation.

Do you know what the difficulty will be in August when InnoSillicon equihash will have already been shipped and who knows how many Z9 will be already on the market
On Zec the current network hashrate is 500Msol with a difficulty of 10M (50Msol=1M in difficulty)
If 10k inno unit  (50ksol) and 50k Z9 (10ksol) are on ZEC (this is just an idea, and obviously not everyone will be on ZEC and the number of unit sold is pulled out of my ass) this will add 1Gsol to the network and push the difficulty to 30M
At that rate, a Z9 will give you 6.62$/day or 2416$/year. BUT, there is with figure pulled out of my ass.
I wish i could get proper sales figures so anyone could estimate because maybe the sales are 5 times that or a 2 time less.

Not counting an eventual fork that would transform the unit as door stoppers like the cryptonight ones...

Now this makes sense... the whole reason for my question and this thread to begin with. Bitmain etc. probably already know this machine will brick in a very short period of time... hence the $850 second batch price. I'm also convinced this machine has been around a long time, mining for Bitmain, and now it's time to sell off the hardware before it's too late. There is no reason, nor does it make any sense, to build a machine that can make more than you are selling it for.....

I'm a little miffed they are taking so long to ship these. 77 people got weeks of free mining for the same cost. It's absurd.

Only first batch of a Miner would be worthy
Looked tempted cause that price of US$850 on bitmain page, what they didnt say it's SECOND BATCH!!

First Batch:
https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=00020180503154806494uGcSyiu806FD
Second Batch:
https://shop.bitmain.com/product/detail?pid=000201806050936438836vKVHwmM06C8

People who bought D3 will know what this means.
Also, you can see first batch they only accepted cryptos and not bank transfer.

Could either be one or a combination of these:  scam, flip, and/or don't want door stop due to forks and a terrible ROI after these ASICs become ubiquitous.

My understanding is that current network hashrate comprised of mostly GPU rigs. or at least half, I don't see miners will continue to mine Zec when there are other profitable coins available. I started to switch my Nvidia rigs to windows  from NvOC to mine on NH and other coins.

I think there's some problems with this miner, there's no reason that a solid miner like Z9 could be cheap as 850 USD.

I heard that some buyers have problems with customs clearance of mining equipment due to lack of certificate of conformity. Perhaps these sellers have solved the problem with customs clearance and now want to make money on it. Agree with me that if you bought the goods and can not get it you will pay more. Soon will the second party and income will be reduced.

Why did Bitmain close their twitter account?  THe z9 batch info is gone...

Too much negative publicity during z9 launch while they're gearing up for a massive IPO.

It’s just suspended procedurally, so should be up soon:

OK I see that now..  I also see someone on ebay selling these z9 mini's for 3100 -- sold 8 already.. crazy..

so is it better to mine or flip!?  I sold 12, 250 coupons on ebay today within an hr.. crazy fast sale. only got $70 each.. maybe not such a great deal for me but I was just going to let them expire.
