Soycoin is the future "stablecoin"
Are admins and moderators are the only one who can lock up a thread? If not, then maybe the ones who started the threads are the ones who locked it up.Also, maybe because the locked topics are the same with other topics only having different titles. Having the same thread over and over again is truly inapproriate.

Do you have screenshots of your post. so more of us can evaluate and make opinion
Not my post - everyone's post..

Which of those topics, do you believe, are supposed to be left open? Most of them are  low quality "questions" from "newbies", which are probably from paid spammers, to disrupt the forum from discussing more serious issues or maybe stopping us from talking about funny "events" like Roger Ver.

🖤😏
It makes you wonder, since when moderators started to lock the topics instead of trashing them? I think an idiot troll was suggesting this in another thread.

I am very new to moderating here but in the P&S section I will definitely appreciate reports of redundant topics/threads and will deal with them as appropriate!

Sure. these people wouldn't do anything. posting with multiple accounts and earning money leaves them no spare time to help. I'm sure you'll be fine. I will give you a hand from time to time.

When it starts to hurt their posts count at the end of the week, then they might think twice.

They wont think twice. they would post more garbage to increase their post count and make up for their deleted posts. I got 3 posts trashed at the same time of post counting for my campaign last week. good thing I have a vigilant campaign manager.

Once a man, twice a child!
This cleanup replays one of Eminem's hit tracks - Cleaning my Closet

Such an exercise will often leave many bruised and wounded along its trails. But it will expectedly send across a warning signal to those who post in repetitive threads.

your rigth sir.
Error Check, just for the purpose of semantics.

I guess you don't know that "your rigth (sic)" isn't the same thing as "You are right"

Again, the Sir nomenclature doesn't work well here in the forums. You may want to avoid using it, except you are addressing a Knight of Shinning Humour  Shocked

They seem to be locking threads which have a lot of replies already, it would seem. Chances are that the reason for this is because in a single topic thread, the same or similar reply has already been imputed. So repeating the same answer just makes the thread unnecessarily long.

your rigth sir. same for other section. they make a big cleanup for other threads that have they same question or related threads. but there have a big conclusion behind there doing.

the mega threads are the one nobody reads, not even the posters posting in... It's frustrating to see them and even more frustrating to see members open similar ones.
Such cleaning is needed for a very long time and it could be nice to have the same with all sub sections

And now a serious question to the mods.

If I stumble upon a new thread with the same content and title and everything as an old thread or mega thread in some cases, should I report it, will somebody start locking duplicate threads?

More than 60% of the topics are locked today.  Wow!  That is crazy.  All the open topics are the dumbest bullshit ever.

Indeed crazy.
The number should look more like 99%, then it might make a difference.
Frodocooper did that in the mining section that was full of the same redundant threads and the section is now almost spam free.

Let's see the latest posts in Bitcoin discussion, the morning catch:

What can I buy with Bitcoin?
Recently Bitcoin got  really famous and we can use bitcoin to pay hotel bills, restaurent bills, online shopping.
I am wondering what else we can buy with bitcoin?

What can kill Bitcoin?
Probably we have 2000 of those

Is bitcoin will boom ?
Is BTC boom again with new record ?

Much insight, great op, such ....

will bitcoin raise again ?

Bitcoin is not a scam.

I would vote for nuking mega threads, this is the only way to get rid of spam posts.

Moderators not doing their works, people are going crazy. When moderators doing their works, people are still going crazy. What is wrong with people nowadays?

It's probably because users here aren't used to mods being too strict; and they don't know exactly what the mod's intentions are since they're locking the topics, probably due to prevent gravedigging.

Im agree a lot of similar threads which only are used for spamming and get post count up. Good job by moderators this site not should become spambay.

Noticed this too. Usually I keep some tabs open on my browser for a few hours just so if ever someone quotes me on my reply, but a lot of the topics are getting deleted. It's good that they're getting a lot more strict towards topic quality though. Especially those "what is merit?" or "how to get merit?" topics. Yikes.

We are Bitcoin!
Those are all trash threads populated by shitposters saying the same thing over and over. I'm guessing rickbig is going on a cleaning spree.

They seem to be locking threads which have a lot of replies already, it would seem. Chances are that the reason for this is because in a single topic thread, the same or similar reply has already been imputed. So repeating the same answer just makes the thread unnecessarily long.

Really, you think it could be that?

Tell you what... your sense of humour is too sharp  Grin
Oh my my  Roll Eyes

You have no idea how many of these threads get created every week and they're filled with the same shit responses over and over. It's truly mind-numbing.

Other such classic threads are "how did you hear about bitcoin?" and "what brought you to bitcointalk?" in every possible configuration and permutation.

i don't think the early contributors should have their posts deleted just because of later spammers. plus, the topic may be perfectly legit, so they should be left for search results.
On a normal forum, I'd say that's true and would be a fair decision.  On bitcointalk, though?  There are mostly low-quality threads being created in the first place and I would have no problem nuking those on sight.  How many threads do we need comparing bitcoin to gold?  Or asking what the advantages or disadvantages are to bitcoin?  None.  There aren't hard and fast rules as to what's a spam thread, but you know it when you see it.

These people are too lazy to use the search feature. Another point of view is they want to increase their number of post counts. This post counts converts to activity and may be if lucky then some merits.

PS: Can anyone help me giving the url of finding recent removed post?
The search result is not giving me any related topic and I do not want to create a topic for this simple query

They learn how to write shit like "Bitcoin is increasing day by day and has bright future we can get profit by investment and we have to wait until price increases and take profit".

Thread trashed from yesterday:

how important bitcoin is in your life ?

bitcoin is very important in my life it help to earn money and make me establish . why bitcoin important for you ?

bitcoin is important in life because it makes future bright and gives more profit.

I suspect that most of the new threads being created in Economics, for instance, are started by people who have alt accounts and are creating topics with questions that they have pre-made answers for.  Stuff that they and other shitposters know how to write already--that's why many of the replies all sound alike.

They learn how to write shit like "Bitcoin is increasing day by day and has bright future we can get profit by investment and we have to wait until price increases and take profit".  Then they reassemble the words into different configurations and tweak them like a medicinal chemist making an amphetamine analogue, and BOOM, they have another post with which to get paid.

So I wouldn't feel that the mods were being unfair in the least if they deleted every post in a spam thread.

the unlocked threads only have 1-5 pages. looks like they're locking huge spam megathreads. probably for the best. a lot of those megathreads just take up space---you get hundreds of shitposters just responding to the OP or even just the thread title (no real discussion).

take one of the screenshotted threads, Worried about btc future. check the last page. here's the first sentence of each reply:

Those threads are, without exception, mega spam threads and should not only be locked but deleted--but I'll take locked over leaving them open any day of the week.

Well no they locked up some topics to prevent the spammer from necro posting since i've seen some topics that were created years ago are popping up and became megaspam with the one liner spammers (newbies)  replies in some sections especially in bitcoin discussion and for me this is good to see that moderators are now moving to moderate this forum.

They are still lucky in locking the thread rather than deleting the whole thread, I saw now in the service section there were so many stupid participants in a signature campaign asking why their post deleted. It's a simple answer they are legitimate shitposting.
I agreed on that much better to locked the thread compared to delete the main thread.

I realize RawDog is just being himself here, but this is a question that a lot of people here are asking themselves--and I think it was a great decision to lock these bloated monstrosities.  The only further replies that are going to come after page 2 of a thread like [Pick one from the list] are spam ones, stuff that's been said before, and posts from people who write for signature campaigns like they're answering questions on a college exam.

Those threads are, without exception, mega spam threads and should not only be locked but deleted--but I'll take locked over leaving them open any day of the week.

Not if we could just get new threads with similar topics nuked on arrival, we'd be in a much better place.  But as I said, I'll take whatever improvement is offered, starting with what just happened.  I'm not a completely ungrateful bastard.

The beginner's board looks a lot better. I'll spend some time on there a bit later.

There's been a big cleanup in the frog pond as well with a lot of spam megathreads having been locked. I don't think it will make much difference though as there'll soon get replaced with new ones. The positive thing is at least they disappear out of peoples unread replies lists.

Been out for a while in the forum. Moving forward with positive outcome will really help the forum. It will be easy to report post that are redundant when these "new ones" will appear again.
