Money is the main reason why people gets addicted to a certain thing.
I just came to this thread and realize how much of the users will be talking about this but it seems there are more others reasons to give, but the fact that it has a relation on money then it really is a fact to be considered as the main reason. I also did a little research about on the question: "Why there are so many people who get addicted on gambling?" and I happened to see some interesting reports on this matter especially this article:

I believe that the reasons lie deep in childhood.
In children whose parents deprived attention, they did not raise and incorrectly expressed their love, complexes and psychological traumas can develop.
In the future, this leads to the fact that in adulthood a person tries to compensate for the lack of parental love by any other means, often harmful.
There's a case for that some being addicted to gambling because of did not raise well by love ones. Gambling is everywhere so people become addicted to it because of the chance to earn big and at the same time it gives and entertainment. Also lack of guidance from love ones that leads to addiction. It is mainly the promise of jackpots that keep people from playing albeit losing huge amounts of money on gambling. They believe that one day, they will hit their luck and solve all their problems and pay for their luxuries in life. Gambling addicts aren't really playing for the entertainment anymore but rather the false and crooked hope of getting that evasive jackpot one day. Intervention at the earliest stages of addiction is better, and diverting an addict's attention away from gambling also works wonders.
Gambling is everything especially for those what we called compulsive gamblers or those addict on gambling, but it made me realize, why they get so addicted in gambling? if gambling can be the reason for them to lost their money, properties, relationship to family and friends, mental health and physical health. I know that there are gamblers who play because of fun and entertainment, but actually there are so many ways for us to make ourselves entertained without even losing our money.
But anyway, I can not judge and blame all those people because we are all different, we have different story in life.

I think one of the problems with compulsive or addict gamblers is that they have made gambling their single source of livelihood, which means they depend solely on the outcome of their gambles, so whenever they win, they keep gambling and when they are losing, they keep gambling.
And as you said, it is hard to be a judge to such circumstances, we can only encourage addicts and let them know there are several advantages to self independence.
Modern man lives in comfortable conditions and does not fight for his life every day. Maybe people are gambling trying to eliminate the lack of adrenaline? And in the end, this leads to gambling addiction. The addiction itself is based on brain biochemistry - i read a study on this topic and it was proved there that dependence is based on a mechanism that forced ancient hunters to continue the run after prey if there was just a little bit left before the “catch”.

Most of the gamblers are getting addicted into it because of the fact that is gambling entertaining and you can win money on gambling in an easy way. We all want to be comfortable and maybe for them, gambling is the way to achieve it. The only problem is, they can't control themselves and they have no plan in whatever situation may happen to them. They must have a plan if they win and if they lose.but the bad side of it is you could lose all of your money if you didn't control yourself from playing.
As I said, lack of control can lead to total loss of money and worse they can get more money in their house or borrow money from their companions just to have money to use for gambling and at the same time, getting their lose money.Before you turn into playing gambling you should have limitations because not everyday you could gain back all of your losses and it will not be fun anymore if you always lose.
Unfortunately, this is the one that is lacking on the gamblers. They don't know the word "limit". They don't have any limitations especially if they are winning. They must put a target price if they win and once it reaches then they must stop gambling at all cost but they don't but they will become greedier as they are winning until such time that all of their money will be lost then that is the time they will stop gambling.

That's right, we can't blame anyone about this and indeed, there are many ways that can make someone get pleasure without spending money and everyone has their own way. When gambling has been used as a source of income then of course it will give a different effect when betting and I think, they themselves will not be easy to realize if in reality they have a gambling addict because they will only enjoy the game by continuing to bet without any control and about awareness itself.
The only way to get entertaine while gambling is when the gambler be able to limit his or her capital during gambling. imagine the following:
you wake up and start reading about some strategy to win in today's game. 5 hours are spent reading the game strategy you will have today and when you play, you win money, you make a profit of 3X or more. What will happen next day? you will spend hours studying another strategy to make more money and if you lose you will spend more hours creating another strategy to make more money. and you end up becoming addicted. Addicted people don't realize that they are addicted.

I disagree, though you have a point but not exactly correct. When you fins yourself doing the same thing over and over again every single day even with limitations, it could be consider as addiction, mild addiction. Yes, addiction have many phases, you'll start at stage 1 to stage 4 of it when you don't change your mindset about gambling. If you're thinking you're not addicted, then you're already in trouble by thinking that way.
In order to evade the lust that gambling emits to attract us to play, we must give ourselves some time to think about every decisions we are going to execute, especially in gambling.

^ Definitely right, if you have experience in gambling, you would definitely understand why people are getting addicted to it. The emotions the gamblers take in gambling is an emotion that is hard to resist. Technically, before the person goes to a gambling platform, their brains will release dopamine that will make them feel excited because of the chances to win. That is the emotion they are getting addicted to. Nevertheless, so what an addict will do is to rush to the casino or whatsoever with his excitement to win.
