Its not only verifying information, they also try to clear the information, that is, find out what information could be dangerous to individuals and redact it where needed, either themselves, or in cooperation with government authorities (if they want to cooperate, which so far, has not been often). For leaks of the scope of what wikileaks regularly receives, thats a monumental task.

Then there is legal costs...

Anyway, Im not the greatest fan of Assange personally, but I do see wikileaks as a very good thing. We shouldnt need it if our media did their job of protecting sources and publishing important information regardless of what their governments want, but our media have turned in to spineless propaganda machines and comedy, so, donation sent.

Well that is your misconception.  There goal is to verify information or at least verify sources.

Anyone can open a website that is a dumping ground for any kind of garbage.  Of course no press is going to report on a "document" found on an anno dumping website which claims Obama is a robotic created by an alien race which intends to enslave the human race.

I think you fundamentally misunderstand what wikileaks does.  Like I said I don't support them.  I think their goals are dubious but so are your "solutions".

It would be like saying:
why have bitcoin.  People can just write what they owe each other in emails and email it back and forth.  Much easier. Much cheaper.

Why can't it just dump everything and then wait until it get more to dump??? Let people with free time sort it! If they did that, I would support them!

But making deals with news papers.. Getting involved in lawsuits over who owns the stolen info??? I don't know...

What do you mean dump and wait.  How do they wait?  How do people contact them?  How do they retain staff between "dumps"?  Why would they wait to dump information?  What if information is arriving at random times on a near continual basis?

As a correlary: Why don't bitcoin users all decide to make all their transactions for the entire year on 01 JAN.  That way the network only needs to run one day a year.  Why do miners need to get paid everyday even when there are no transactions?

Personaly I think wikileaks is dubous but your "solution" is even more dubous.  If you think the concept of wikileaks have value then it needs fund to operate continually so it is ready for any information released.  On the other hand if you think the concept of wikileaks is dubous well there is no reason for it to operate at all.  Why operate something part time if is of dubious value?

Many people think bitcoin is of dubous value.  Is the solution to gain acceptance to run the bitcoin network part time?

Wikileaks is not just a site that releases random shit.

It is a web site, and thus it has running costs. It cannot just  dump all its info and leave, it would make no sense.

I am undecided on the wikileak but the concept isn't just for them to release what they have and go away.

Their stated goal (dubious or believable or not) is for incresed transparency.  Their purpose is to be a network where whistleblowers can securely and anonymously give information.  That information can be verified and released to the press.  Essentially a middle man between potential sources of information and the press

If they simply release what they have and shutdown it doesn't really accomplish anything.  It would be like saying "Why doesn't Bitcoin just do one final trade and shutdown.  Why do miners need to get paid?".

I guess they need it for operational costs.   Servers need money especially those of the scale of Wikileaks, staff needs salary, he himself also need money for expenses.

WikiLeaks Suspends Release of Secrets to Seek Cash:  http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2011-10-24/wikileaks-publishing-finances/50888948/1

WikiLeaks said in a statement Monday that it would stop publishing in order to focus on making money — explaining that the blockade imposed by financial companies including Visa, MasterCard, Western Union and PayPal left it with no choice.

Looks like a fellow "freedomeer" currently needs more than just a little assistance. Can Bitcoin save the day?
