Well actually they may receive Bitcoins at a fast rate, but I suppose they also have huge running cost for such a site right?

So in the end they will end up reinjecting that money in the market (be it Bitcoin or dollars or whatever) and shouldn't own that many bitcoin at a given time. Dunno maybe I am wrong.

I donated "ten bucks" in bitcoin last year to Khan Academy. While I'm sure that the sum is now worth around "fifty bucks", they only obtained the instant value.

If Wikimedia officially accepts my bitcoin donation, then I will give the suggested donation, which they claim could solve the begging message in half an hour.

I also donated in the past with PayPal because I used MediaWiki 1.3 for a community site with great success.

I'm pretty sure this guy recognizes that us wanting him to accept bitcoin donations isnt because of our love for Wikipedia but our desire to have bitcoin's reputation further legitimized. A flurry of activity that slows to a trickle after a month isn't going to convince him to help advertise for us for free.

I largely agree but please note that your "us" does not represent everyone here.  Some have donated because they actually want to support Wikipedia.  Some are not donating because they are rightly angry about Wikimedia's very anti-liberty statement (quoted above).  For me, the former consideration outweighed the latter, but I can respect those in the other camp.

However, I despise the "us" you describe; those that are actually trying to manipulate Jimbo into selling out.  While I'm confident that he will never be bought, A part of me hopes that he drops the idea of Bitcoin for now out of disgust for these people.

TL;DR: Bitcoiners love to buy things; Wikipedia is not something to be bought.

Of course, this deeply upset a lot of bitcoiners.  However, I don't think this is sufficient to explain the level of hate here.

Text in red is more than sufficient to explain the level of hate here but you have no clue where you are now, obviously. It is so because people like
theymos allowed you and alikes to roam around here.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
Now the guy has over 1/1,000,000th of the entire total supply of bitcoins!

This is fuckin' crazy! At this rate, in 7 days Jimmy Wales will own 1/500,000th of the entire total supply of bitcoins. By the end of the end of the month, 1/125,000th of all the precious.

Is there any way we, as a team, can stop him? If we don't, he'll have 1/19,230th of all the bitcoins in the world in a year's time.
No one can stop him now. He might as well own the rights to Bitcoin.
Satoshi watch out

OMG! Look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

So, it's happening already.

True, but I bet it wouldn't slow to a trickle. A lot of savvy computer users use wikipedia, and a lot of savvy computer users have bitcoin. It's perfect.

I bet it will actually be a viable solution for donations for them if promoted properly.

And hopefully they clear up their obvious lack of education on Bitcoin and economics. Not so sure about their follow-the-leader of the NWO "establishment" though

Wikipedia saved my ass in school so many times all those years ago,  i sent them a few satoshis

Sending "a few satoshis" is considered spam by most new wallets
You have to send at least a larger amount than a regular transaction fee

obviously i sent more than a few satoshis lol

i sent like 10 bucks

Because Wikipedia is great.  I don't understand why so many bitcoiners are against Wikipedia, the underlying philosophies are not so different.
I too wonder what this seeming collective bad sentiment toward wikipedia is caused by. I think wikipedia perhaps did something that was considered unjust in the past... But I am not aware of what it was.

I also like Wikipedia and think it offers a great service. It's a libraray in everyone's home.

Now, if they were censoring things, I could see where the problem would begin. Did they censor something ever?

yep... 9 11 truth, obama scandals...anything against the establishment.

For a long time, The Wikimedia Foundation was responding to requests to accept Bitcoin donations with:

I'm sure they would take 10 ounces of gold as a donation if you threw it on his plate.  AFAIK gold isn't backed by anything except its value in electronics and long time store of wealth.  The people at wikipedia suck, but its your coins, not mine.  Have fun.

He did say on Reddit though that this wasnt going to influence them into accepting it in general. 21BTC is a tiny fraction of their running costs and he noted that one time donations couldn't be a judge for the future.

Of course.  Jimbo has far too much integrity to be influenced in this way.
